This is our third year as the ‘presented by’ partner for ProMX, and we are thrilled to be onboard again this year. For AMX, we’ve always lived and breathed MX. The sport provides the opportunity for everyone to enjoy MX, from spectators to riders to industry sponsors like us, we just love getting involved and having some fun.
We also see our support of ProMX as a small contribution to ensure MX stays where it should be, a well-managed
sport viewed by as many spectators as possible who have a quality experience, whether at the track or watching the live stream or on broadcast TV through SBS. We know our sport is one of the most spectacular, challenging and extreme sports out there today and we want it to grow for the benefit of teams, riders and spectators alike.
We’ll be at all rounds, so come and talk to our team about anything MX. We enjoy getting along to these events, it’s what being involved in this industry is all about and we’re privileged to be here to support racing and just talk bikes for a weekend! Rob Farrimond Business Manager AMX SuperstoresSaturday’s action at round four of the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship, presented by AMX Superstores, has concluded in Maitland, NSW, with three-time MX1 champion Dean Ferris taking the opening Thor MX1 moto victory, as KTM’s Jet Alsop raced to the MAXXIS MX3 moto win.
Riders were greeted with blue skies and warm temperatures as the gates dropped in the Lower Hunter Valley region, where day one’s racing consisted of the opening Thor MX1, MAXXIS MX3, and MX85 WJMX Qualifier motos, while Pirelli MX2 took to the circuit for qualifying ahead of Sunday’s action.
It was a day of blue in the Thor MX1 Class, with defending champion and CDR Yamaha Monster Energy ace Aaron Tanti topping the qualifying timesheets in the morning. Behind Tanti was Boost Mobile Honda Racing’s Kyle
the number 111 would cruise to a 12.960 second margin over Clout, with Tanti capitalising on a late race mistake from Kyle Webster to grab the final podium position.
Webster, with the second CDR Yamaha Monster Energy of Luke Clout finishing the session in position three. Kirk Gibbs (KTM Racing Team) and Jed Beaton rounded out the top-five, with all five riders separated by less than a second.
The gates dropped for the opening Thor MX1 moto, with top-qualifier Tanti rocketing off the line and taking the early lead. CDR Yamaha Monster Energy teammate Clout and Yamaha-mounted Ferris squabbled for position behind the leader, before Tanti fell out front, and Ferris made the move on Clout to inherit the lead. From there,
Championship leader and Boost Mobile Honda Racing rider Beaton crossed the line in eighth, which reduces his Thor MX1 Championship margin to just five over Ferris, with fellow former champion Gibbs a further nine in arrears.
Qualifying for the Pirelli MX2 Class was topped by Serco Yamaha’s Jesse Dobson, with teammate Rhys Budd a marginal 0.045s off Dobson’s time, as defending champion Wilson Todd secured the third fastest time,
just 0.226s off the leader. Fourth place was KTM Racing Team’s Nathan Crawford, as Yamalube Yamaha Racing’s Jayce Cosford was fifth.
The MAXXIS MX3 class was also on-track at Maitland for their opening moto of the weekend, with Queensland youngster Jet Alsop crossing the line in first position in MAXXIS MX3 moto one, while Yamaha Junior Racing duo of Jake Cannon and Seth Burchell followed.
The MX85 WJMX Qualifier saw KTM-equipped Lachlan Allen take the race victory, with GASGAS Junior Racing Team’s Seth Thomas finishing in P2, and KTM Junior Racing Team talent Cooper Ford landing the final step on the podium in third.
With Saturday’s action concluded, riders will take to the circuit tomorrow for the second and final leg of round four of the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship, presented by AMX Superstores, in Maitland, where two motos across each class will take place as the quest for the 2023 championships continue.
Series leader Byron Dennis (GASGAS) came home in fifth position, and now sits seven points clear of Jack Mather (Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing) – ninth position on Saturday – in the standings.
Racing has concluded at the fourth round of the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship, presented by AMX Superstores, with Yamaha’s Dean Ferris sweeping all three Thor MX1 motos, while Serco Yamaha’s Rhys Budd earned his first-ever Pirelli MX2 class overall. Cambell Williams won the MAXXIS MX3 overall, and Lachlan Allen was victorious in the MX85 WJMX Qualifier.
In a day where all four seasons were on display, riders were faced with a difficult Maitland circuit as the weather wreaked havoc on the hard-packed surface, providing a level of instability that the athletes would need to navigate throughout the day.
Both Boost Mobile Honda Racing riders of Kyle Webster and Jed Beaton came out of the gates firing, with Webster taking home the AMX Superstores Top 10 Pole Shootout with a blistering 1:43.301 lap-time, as Beaton sat just 0.075 in arrears. The CDR Yamaha Monster Energy duo of Aaron Tanti and Luke Clout finished in positions three and four, respectively, while KTM Racing Team’s Kirk Gibbs rounded out the top five.
Maitland. He was not without pressure, however, as Clout and Tanti continued their attack in unison, with 2021 champion Clout leading home defending champion Tanti in positions two and three. Webster and Beaton rounded out the top five.
After a dominant performance the day prior, Ferris wasted no time in setting the tone for Sunday’s racing, grabbing the holeshot in the opening Thor MX1 moto and leading wire-to-wire for his second race victory in
It was business as usual for Ferris in the third Thor MX1 moto across the Maitland race weekend, with the YZ450F-mounted rider once again withstanding pressure from both Clout and Tanti, who finished the moto in P2
and P3 respectively. It was Beaton and 2020 title winner Todd Waters (Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing) next in line to complete the weekend.
The podium order for the weekend, as replicated in all three motos, was Ferris from Clout and Tanti. Ferris now takes possession of the championship leader’s red plate on 145 points, with Beaton slipping to second with 136, and current number one plate-holder Tanti climbing to third at 119 points, tied with Gibbs.
The opening Pirelli MX2 moto of the weekend was won by KTM Racing Team’s Nathan Crawford, who put a healthy 13.562 second margin on defending champion Wilson Todd in second. Following a hot qualifying day for the Serco Yamaha squad on Saturday, Rhys Budd continued his form with a third-place ride, with Ryan Alexanderson (KTM) and Haruki Yokoyama (Empire Kawasaki) completing the top-five.
The skies had opened by the time the second Pirelli MX2 moto rolled around, with riders facing difficult conditions as the gates dropped. As goggles were tossed and carnage ensued, it was Dobson who emerged victorious, followed by teammate Rhys Budd in P2, and Terrafirma Honda Racing’s defending champion Todd in P3. Noah Ferguson (GASGAS Racing Team) and Crawford were fourth and fifth.
After a 3-2 moto scorecard, Serco Yamaha’s Budd earned his first-career Pirelli MX2 overall win using consistency, followed by Todd in second, and KTM’s Crawford in third. With that, Todd extends his points lead to 27 over teammate Brodie Connolly (Polyflor Honda Racing), with Crawford a further four points back in third.
After the unique three-moto format in Maitland, it was Cambell Williams (Empire Kawasaki) who took top honours in the MAXXIS MX3 class, followed by championship leader Byron Dennis (GASGAS) in second, and Yamaha’s Jake Cannon, who finished in third with a consistent scorecard across the three races.
After round four of the season, Dennis now sits four points clear of Mather, with Williams entering the fray in third, 29 points from the lead. It’s shaping up to be a hard-fought second half of the season for some of the country’s top young motocross talent here in the Penrite ProMX Championship.
The MX85 WJMX Qualifier belonged to KTM-mounted Lachlan Allen in Maitland, who secured a clean sweep across the three-moto format to take the top step of the podium this weekend.
GASGAS rider Jack Nunn led home series winner Seth Thomas in second and third positions, respectively, while it was Thomas who scored the highest points ahead of Nunn and Allen, following his impressive round in Maitland.
With the opening moto yesterday taken out by Jet Alsop (KTM), today saw Jack Mather (Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing) back on top in moto two ahead of Williams and Dennis. The third outing was won by Williams, which was enough for his first overall of the year, followed by Dennis and Mather on-track.
