Accommodations

Mount Aloysius College makes every reasonable effort to provide qualified services to students with disabilities in order to create equal access for academic success. The Accessibility Services staff work in collaboration with members of the campus community to ensure that the student is integrated into the academic setting that will best help them reach their academic goals. Reasonable accommodations can be provided to students with a documented disability.

Students seeking accommodations from Accessibility Services on the basis of a disability are required to submit documentation to verify eligibility for services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Protection under these civil rights is based upon documentation of a current disability that substantially limits a major life function.

Accommodations Services Provided:

• Academic and environmental accommodations.

• Access to adaptive equipment for academic use.

• Meeting with faculty and students to support nondiscriminatory classroom policies.

• Working with faculty, staff, and students to increase disability awareness.

How to set up accommodations:

1. Student submits medical documentation and application 30 days before accommodations are required to: Student Health and Wellness Center 101 St. Joseph Hall Cresson, PA 16630

2. The Accessibility Services staff will review the documentation and determine if an accommodation is reasonable and warranted.

3. An accommodation letter will be issued to the student, and the student will be notified to pick up their accommodations packet.

4. Students sign each letter and present a copy of accommodation to faculty/staff when requesting needed accommodations.

5. The Student Health and Wellness Center will work in consultation with faculty/staff and the student should any disagreement arise.

Student’s Responsibility:

• Meet with professors to discuss accommodations.

• Notify Accessibility Services if accommodations are not being met.

• Provide necessary documentation to request accommodations.

• Notify Accessibility Services if accommodations are no longer necessary.

The College’s policy complies with the requirements of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX and Section 504 of the Educational Amendments of 1972, and all other applicable Federal, State, and Local statutes, regulations, and guidelines.
