Class of 2009 Top Academic Honors

Travis Brundage was the valedictorian of the Christian Home & Bible School class of 2009 with a 4.3220 GPA. Travis has attended CH&BS since the 6th grade. During high school Travis was active in Band, Senior Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta (math organization), and Tri-M(music association). His favorite teachers at CH&BS are Mrs. Hooker, because she was organized and taught very well with a mathematical way of thinking, and Mrs. Grubbs, who was a very cool and personable teacher and class sponsor.

Travis is attending the University of Central Florida and majoring in Computer Science. “I really enjoyed my years at Christian Home & Bible School. The Christian environment made it a great place to learn and go to school, ” said Travis.

Lindsey Massaro was the salutatorian of the class of 2009 graduating with a 4.2586 GPA. She has attended CH&BS since the sixth grade. Lindsey was involved in band as Drum Major and student conductor, Senior Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honor Society, Science Honor Society, TriM-President, was a science fair participate at the regional and state levels, and a Senior Superlative.

Her favorite CH&BS teachers are,

“Mrs. Grubbs because she made English fun, interesting, and exciting for those who didn’t even like English, and Mr. Yopp, whose Christian attitude and love for the band was so infectious we couldn’t help but love him, ” said Lindsey.

Lindsey will attend Florida Southern in Lakeland this fall majoring in Music Education. “It was absolutely wonderful to go to a school where our Lord was loved and welcomed. This made all the difference in the world in my education, ” said Lindsey.

The President’s Award

The President’s Award is an honor presented to the senior girl and boy who have accumulated the most points at CH&BS for overall participation and leadership. Dr. James Moore announced Chelsea Emery and Parker Brown as the 2009 President’s Award winners. Scores for the award are accumulated for: lettering in varsity sports, leadership roles and awards, members of the MDB Seven Year Club for athletics, district, regional, or state competition and community recognition. Both Chelsea and Parker have brought honor and recognition to CH&BS.

Six CH&BS Students

Awarded Scholarship $$

Six CH&BS students won scholarships from the Women’s Committee on Fine Arts of Mount Dora last spring. This local art organization raises funds throughout the year to sponsor student artists’ future study in the areas of visual and performing arts. Each year CH&BS Fine Arts students consistently lead the county schools in scholarship awards and recognition. Many of these students plan to pursue the arts as a career. They benefit greatly from the skills and confidence they gain by the opportunities afforded them throughout their time at Christian Home & Bible School.

Christian Leadership Award

The Christian Leadership Award is given to one senior girl and one senior guy who best exemplify the standards of Christian Home & Bible School. They demonstrate Christ-like behavior in their daily walk and attitude. This honor went to Kristen Bay and Aaron Smith. Congratulations!

2009 Mr.and Miss CH&BS

Kelly Hill and Kevin Holder were selected as Mr. and Miss CH&BS. Both students were chosen by their peers as Christian role models and servant leaders. “Kelly and Kevin are outstanding students with many talents and gifts. They have represented CH&BS honorably, ” said Pat Todd, CH&BS Headmaster. Kelly will attend Faulkner University, and Kevin plans to attend Harding University.

Senior Superlatives

The selection of Senior Superlatives is an MDB tradition where teachers recognize seniors as role models. The students are chosen for spiritual leadership, exceptional academic preparation, extra curricular activity participation, and school spirit. This year’s Senior Superlatives are as follows: Kristen Bay, Katie Bay, Parker Brown, Kelly Hill, Kevin Holder, Seth Hooper, Lindsey Massaro, Phillip Shepherd, Taylor Sleaford, Aaron Smith, and Rebecca True. These eleven students represent the class of 2009 as outstanding leaders and receive one of the highest honors a senior can receive. Congratulations!

2nd and 3rd Generation CH&BS Students Graduate 2009

The Christian Home & Bible School Class of 2009 celebrated with seven graduates who are second generation CH&BS graduates. This includes Ashley Adams and Falyn Cantrell, who are third generation CH&BS graduates. CH&BS Alumni want their children to attend Christian Home & Bible School to receive the same quality education taught from a Christian perspective they received while attending the school.

“Good memories, ” “the family atmosphere, ” “ a hometown feeling, ” and “the CH&BS quality of life” are phrases frequently used by former graduates. Many times the school open house is like a CH&BS homecoming. Chelsea Emery Receives S O F T B A L L SCHOLARSHIP

Chelsea Emery signed a softball scholarship with Brevard Community College before graduation last spring. Chelsea has played a variety of positions in her softball career, including outfield, first base, and catcher. She was named to the All-Regional Softball Team for the 2009 season.

“We think Chelsea can compete very well for any number of positions on our team. Her strengths are probably in the outfield and catcher, ” said Brevard Coach Ed Yanes.
