BENEFITS OF CHLOROPHYLL “SUNSHINE FOR YOUR INSIDES”

Chlorophyll’s a natural plant pigment that makes veggies green and helps leaves turn sunshine into food. But plants are plants. What could chlorophyll do for people? It turns out, there’s some evidence that the benefits of chlorophyll could range from fighting acne to even preventing stinky pits. So, what exactly is chlorophyll? Chlorophyll’s the pigment that’s responsible for the pop of green in the garden each spring. But it doesn’t just exist to bring you out of your long winter blues. Plants need it to carry out photosynthesis the process that helps them turn sunshine into fuel And it might even have some perks for humans. You can get chlorophyll by eating your veggies or by using chlorophyll supplements. 1. It might help improve skin Scraped your knee? Got a cut that won’t heal? Chlorophyllin may be able to help with that! Older research suggests that an ointment containing chlorophyllin could be more effective at healing wounds than a saline solution. 2. It may boost your blood health Chlorophyll has long been rumoured to improve red blood cell quality. And there is some research to support that. Back in 2004, scientists studied folks with a blood disorder called thalassemia. When participants drank 100 millilitres (mL) chlorophyll-rich wheatgrass juice each day, their need for blood transfusions decreased by at least 40 percent. However, it’s still unclear whether the wheatgrass

itself, or the chlorophyll content in that wheatgrass, is responsible for these benefits. 3. It could smooth out your fine lines and wrinkles Want to keep your skin smooth and firm? Chlorophyll might be able to play a role. Sodium copper chlorophyllin can be dabbed directly onto the skin. In one tiny 2016 study, four women who applied chlorophyllin gel to their skin experienced an improvement in their skin texture. The results were similar to what they’d get from tretinoin, a retinoid. 4. It could help your acne There haven’t been any large, conclusive studies on chlorophyll for skin texture or acne. But initial studies seem promising. In one 2015 study of 10 people, a gel infused with chlorophyllin helped prevent zits and smoothed large pores after 3 weeks. Another study found that a skin care regimen of cleanser, over-the-counter (OTC) cream with 2 percent salicylic acid, and a finishing gel with chlorophyllin was highly effective for women battling a combo of acne and fine lines. 5. It might subdue body odor While the science remains slim, lots of folks claim chlorophyll helps them smell better. • Urinary and faecal stench. Chlorophyllin has been used to tamp down noxious bathroom odours. • Body odour related to a medical condition. A brief 2004 study discovered that it’s also useful against the fishy odour caused by a metabolic disorder called trimethylaminuria. • Bad breath. This is all anecdotal, but some peeps say it reins in bad breath.

I was recently asked to paint a large amount of fencing. The fence was already fourteen years old and on its last legs. Cordless at the ready, several boxes of screws, some new pieces of timbers later, the fence was ready to paint. This was the first time I had taken on a job like this, and quite frankly I was not looking forward to it because I did not know what I was getting into. Anyway, I did a lot of research on what other people had done in the past, what preparation etc. and which product I should use. After a lot of homework, I decided to use Ronseal fence paint. This is not to say that the other products would not be as good, this was just my choice. There are three ways to paint a fence. 1. Use a paint brush 2. Use a roller 3. Spray it My fact finding showed that using a top of the range airless sprayer was the best way to do the job properly. So, I bought a top of the range Wagner Pro sprayer. I started applying the paint with my new sprayer. I knew it was going to take several coats. And sure enough the first coat the fence looked rubbish. The first coat was just sucked into the timber and the fence did not look that good. But after allowing the first coat to dry and applying the second coat, well, my socks were well and truly blown off! The fence was fully coated and looked fantastic. This is all well and good, but what did I end up charging the customer? So, the fence panels were 6 feet x 5 feet and in between concrete posts and I worked out what I believe to be an outrageously low price of £8.00 per panel.

On this my first job, there were 27 panels. This means that 27 x 8 = £216 was my fee for this job. Although the panels were already 14 years old, I reckon I have just added at least another six or seven years to their life. And in another six or seven years they can be painted again. A 6-foot x 5-foot panel like I did on this job costs around £45. • Then you must get it delivered. • Then you must get it fitted. • Then you must get the old one taken away. Or we can come and repair, paint and bring your old ones back to life for a lot less money, and a lot less hassle. These are your options. I was so impressed with the finished job I decided to advertise and get some leaflets printed. The one attached to these pages of scribble is what I decided on. The problem is that the leaflet doesn’t tell the whole story on how we started painting fences and why you should get yours done and leaflets just end up in the bin. Plus, because I don’t know what response I am going to get, I am not going to pay any more money for printing; so here is my story, and I look forward to hearing from you. Danny PS. PHYSICAL, MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS COLUMN Stress is everywhere! Its at home, its in our finances, it’s on the tv news and on the internet It’s at work and it is even visible on the school run or the daily commute to each day. People rushing from A to B, trying to get through the traffic lights, beat the next junction, flashing head lights, beeping horns, dog walkers, joggers, kids crossing the road in groups, Covid updates, Fuel price hikes, interest rates, inflation, War in Ukraine, toilet roll shortages, I could probably fill this page and several others with all the daily stressors that we soak up through our subconscious exteroceptive sensory stimuli, or in normal terms all the things we can see, hear, feel, smell and taste. Stress & vulnerabilities are the two largest contributors to poor mental health. My name is Darren Holmes, I am a Military veteran and the founder of the Kaizen Wirral Wellness platform, The Blended Approach To Physical, Mental health & Wellness, and I am delighted to contribute some of my work with the Wirral Wellbeing Magazine, it is my mission to assist, educate and inspire as many people as I can, on their own journey to stressless wellbeing & happiness, via Mental Health awareness, Cognitive behavioural therapy, Nuero linguistic programming, Mindfulness and the Routes & Dimensions of Wellness. www.kaizen-mindset.co.uk

However stressors don’t wait until we feel at our upmost best to deal with them, just like the school yard bully doesn’t wait until you receive your first Black belt in Martial arts before they pick on you, so our own ability to build tolerance and capacity is now required more than ever, our daily stress account requires abundance, so that as the daily stressors start to appear ( like a tennis player serving the ball, or serving the stressors over the net in your direction one at a time ) we have the agency and capacity to deal with them and send them straight back. Here at Kaizen Wirral Wellness one of our many capacity building strategies is called the Routes to Wellness ( you probably already have your own, and if they are working for you then Kudos my friends) however if you are currently feeling pressure or stress in your daily life I can assure you that choosing the Routes to Wellness will make significant positive differences in how you perceive your daily stressors to be, but more importantly how you respond to them in a pro- active nature and not a reactive confrontational manner. Choose the lowest hanging fruit, the one route that you could begin to make the easiest changes too, it could be exercise with a walk, or perhaps drinking more water each day, then gradually begin to habit stack with the next - The Kaizen Wirral Wellness Platform, Routes To Wellness.

How are your tolerance levels today? If you had to write down just a few words to describe how you are feeling what words would you use, stressed, anxious, apprehensive or worried, does it feel as though your stress bucket is overflowing? Do you know what your stress bucket is? Do you even have one? or do you have lots of capacity to handle your stressors with logic, reason and rational. We all have a stress account, the number of stressors that we can handle minute by minute, hour by hour or day by day! our ability to deal with the rigours of life can often be down to how we perceive those rigours, are they pushing you towards burnout or are they actually the motivating factors in your daily wins & successes. Not all stress is bad stress, the Greek word Eustress means good stress, the stress we require to get us out of bed in the mornings, the first dose of Cortisol (one of our stress hormones) that motivates us to go for a run before work, or at least take a shower before breakfast. Eustress helps us to achieve daily necessities, get up, take the kids to school, walk the dog, go to work, meet a deadline, earn o bonus, go to the gym, cook a healthy meal for the family, participate in evening activities whatever they may be, brush our teeth and go to bed to recharge for the following day.

Mindfulness and mental health awareness During April and May it's great to see anxiety and mental health awareness being discussed more openly. However, some of the issues we face are linked to a culture that encourages us to fill every waking moment with doing and achieving, to the extent that for some exhaustion and stress have become part of normal life. To some extent it is, we have a stress response system that reacts to threats and keeps us alive. When the danger passes, our nervous system re-balances and our stress chemicals subside. So how does stress become a problem? Stress was designed to support a short term reaction but many factors prolong our stress response so it never gets an opportunity to reset. It might be that we work with someone we find particularly difficult and dealing with them causes us to feel stressed. However, our powerful mind notices and soon we don't even need to deal with the person to experience stress. Seeing them across a room, or thinking about them triggers the stress response. When we're continually thinking about them, we never reset the nervous system or stress chemicals. Now our stress system is continually charged in threat mode.

Stress - the badly behaved guest that never leaves!

We find ourselves increasingly agitated in seemingly trivial situations and start to worry about holding everything together. We worry we'll lose our temper or break down and this causes more worry and stress. We literally wear ourselves out until we become depressed or burnt out. Sometimes we manage stress by removing ourselves, only to find that the cycle begins again. This was my personal experience of stress and after many decades of going through this cycle, mindfulness gave me an effective way of working with stress. We can't alter our fight or flight response but we can change the way we react to it. Through mindfulness based self awareness, we learn to notice our physical, emotional and mental state and rather than being swept along we pause and take action to disengage or reset. I developed Mind21 to share the techniques that helped me and because I also appreciate the power of overwhelm I wanted it to be as accessible as possible. It focuses on the experiential guided practices of mindfulness that work on emotional regulation. The practices are accompanied by short presentations explaining how the mind and stress work. The basics of meditation Start by finding somewhere quiet and peaceful, silence your phone and any other possible distractions. Get yourself comfortable, you can sit on the floor, lay down, in a chair or stand, the important thing is not to slouch. The aim is to be relaxed and alert. Then think of a length of time that you will be comfortable with, don’t go for longer sessions at first.

You’re getting ready for a peaceful night sleep when you see something moving on the floor next to your bed. A spider! You yell out for a non-arachnophobe to help. They jump into action. The shoe slams down on the hardwood. Thank goodness! Then you see the spider scurry under the bed, you feel the fear rising, you know you can’t sleep in that room tonight. Your poor aiming hero tries to convince you that it’s a just small spider who is more afraid of you. You don’t see it that way . Your thoughts spiral “What if it crawls on me when I’m sleeping?” “What if it bites me?” “What if it crawls in my mouth?” You end up sleeping on the couch in the living room. Why is it that two people can experience the same situation, but react so differently? Their perception, anxiety is based on a perception of danger. By avoiding what we fear, we protect ourselves from danger or what we perceive to be dangerous. Anxiety is a protective mechanism meant to keep us safe. But when anxiety interferes with our life, impacting enjoyment and functioning, it has risen to the level of a disorder. This occurs when our perception of danger is distorted. Perception is distorted as it feels like the spider is huge. Distress becomes intolerable as you dwell on the thought of it lurking under your bed. Possibility and probability are confused as it seems likely to crawl into your mouth. And danger is amplified as the spider is likely to be deadly. It’s difficult to remain calm when your imagination is running wild with possibilities. Even if you know your thoughts are irrational you may be unable to control them, which is one reason why people who suffer with anxiety struggle. The frightening thoughts often result in physical symptoms like racing heart, sweating, difficulty breathing, sleeplessness, stomach issues, and light-

headedness; just to name a few. Seemingly, the choice is to endure symptoms or avoid the situation altogether. Thankfully there is a third option. This is where treatment comes in. What is the most effective treatment for anxiety? I use a tailored multi-therapy approach which can include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), counselling, hypnotherapy and coaching. We tend to assign meanings to specific situations and the things that happen in our lives. Most often it’s not the actual situation causing our anxiety, but the meanings we attribute; accurate or not. In our example, meanings have been assigned to spiders. It isn’t the spider causing anxiety; it’s the meaning assigned to the spider. When you suffer with an anxiety disorder, thoughts are given a lot of meaning, are taken very seriously, are repeated in the mind, and therefore have a lot of power. By changing irrational thought patterns and confronting fears, many of my client learn to step beyond their comfort zone to attain the freedom they desire. By learning a certain mindset, anxious situations are approached differently as you learn to tolerate uncertainty and distress. What was once uncomfortable becomes comfortable with repeated practice. The lasting power of attorney (LPA) was introduced by the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and came into being in October 2007, replacing the previous Enduring Power of Attorney which had been around since 1985.

There are two types of LPA: 1. For health and welfare matters 2. For financial affairs The Act states that should you have some form of incapacity (temporary or permanent) that prevents you from looking after your own affairs, you must have appointed attorneys who can be either family members or trusted friends to act for you under a registered LPA. Each LPA is a 20-page document and it has to be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian. The registration process takes eight to nine weeks and a fee is payable to register each one. That fee depends on your level of income. In some cases the registration fee is waived. If you develop some form of incapacity then your attorneys can act fully legally on your behalf under a registered LPA.

What can happen if I don’t have an LPA in place and I am unable to manage my own affairs? 1. The court of protection can and will appoint ‘deputies’ to manage your affairs if no family member/friend quickly applies to become your deputy/attorney. This becomes very arduous and very expensive. Court appointed deputies would close your bank accounts and divert all your income to the court. 2. Family members can apply to the court to become your attorney for financial affairs only. This process can take up to four months and costs can easily exceed £3,000. 3. Your bank can freeze your bank accounts; they can even freeze joint bank accounts. 4. Social services will be in complete control of your health related matters and can place you into a care home, possibly against your or your family’s wishes. Our prices to prepare both LPAs are: £240 for singles and £360 for couples.
