Cuando hemos estado viviendo tiempos de alta incertidumbre que han afectado la producción cinematográfica en todo el mundo, es para nosotros una gran satisfacción haber recibido cerca de 400 propuestas colombianas este año para la Competencia Nacional del 19˚ Bogotá Short Film Festival / Festival de Cortos de Bogotá - BOGOSHORTS. De este número de obras consideradas, han sido seleccionados 41 cortometrajes distribuidos en ficción, documental, animación, experimental y videoclip. Películas que están dando cuenta de una gran diversidad en el cine nacional, que transitan por múltiples exploraciones de los temas y las formas en la búsqueda de una voz propia. Se configura así en una programación rica y variada de cineastas de Colombia, que habitan en el país así como aquellos que pertenecen a la diáspora, que reafirman una vez más la vitalidad del cine nacional que resiste y propone cuando pareciera que los tiempos son más difíciles. La competencia de ficción nos presenta obras que exploran desde lo íntimo y personal el estado de las cosas; a partir de lo propio dan cuenta del entorno y la realidad que habitan. En documental la vida cotidiana no deja de sorprendernos cuando es mirada con el lente amplificado del cine, permitiendo ver en los detalles universos profundos de la vida de los personajes. Animación se sigue consolidando como una de las categorías más vitales del cine nacional, con realizadores con experiencia y otros que están comenzando que exploran profundamente las técnicas y proponen universos y formas de narrar únicas. Experimental ha tenido un crecimiento exponencial desde que empezó a hacer una sección particular de nuestras competencias nacionales, de manera tal que este año por primera vez tendremos dos programas con obras que borran los límites entre los formatos clásicos, que juegan con los elementos narrativos y que reposan sobre exploraciones formales. El videoclip se sigue caracterizando por su versatilidad y un constante juego con los géneros cinematográficos con gran nivel de producción. Será sin duda alguna un año en el que la Santa Lucía no está asegurada para ninguna película y en el que no solo los jurados, sino las audiencias, jugarán un papel clave en la posibilidad de otorgar este premio. El festival se enorgullece de reconocer cada año a los talentos en los diferentes roles artísticos y técnicos de estas producciones entregándoles la Santa Lucía, nuestra estatuilla oficial, con el ánimo de que ilumine sus caminos de aprendizaje e innovación permanente. Continuando con nuestro compromiso por fortalecer la industria audiovisual colombiana, desde 2021 los cortometrajes dirigidos por colombianos o de producción colombiana que son seleccionados en la Competencia F3 - Fanático Freak Fantástico, no solo participan por la Santa Lucía que se entrega en esta sección, sino también por los premios artísticos y técnicos de la Competencia Nacional. Este año, cinco cortometrajes colombianos tendrán esa oportunidad. Desde 2018, la Santa Lucía también tiene el poder de ampliar el horizonte de apreciación de los cortometrajes ganadores a Mejor Corto en las categorías de Ficción, Animación y Documental, pues serán elegibles para su consideración en las mismas categorías de los Premios Óscar (Oscars®), ya que el Bogotá Short Film Festival / Festival de Cortos de Bogotá - BOGOSHORTS hace parte de la lista de festivales calificadores a los Premios de la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de Estados Unidos (Academy Awards®). When we have been living in times of high uncertainty that have affected film production around the world, it is a great satisfaction for us to have received close to 400 Colombian submissions this year for the National Competition of the 19° Bogotá Short Film Festival / Festival de Cortos de Bogotá - BOGOSHORTS. From this number of works considered, 41 short films have been selected, distributed in fiction, documentary, animation, experimental and videoclip. Films that are showing a great diversity in national cinema, which go through multiple explorations of themes and forms in the search for a voice of their own. This is a rich and varied program of Colombian filmmakers who live in the country as well as those who belong to the diaspora, reaffirming once again the vitality of Colombian cinema that resists and proposes when times seem to be more difficult. The fiction competition presents works that explore the state of things from an intimate and personal point of view; from their own perspective, they give an account of the environment and the reality they inhabit. In documentary, everyday life never ceases to surprise us when viewed through the amplified lens of cinema, allowing us to see in the details deep universes of the lives of the characters. Animation continues to consolidate as one of the most vital categories of national cinema, with experienced filmmakers and others who are just beginning, that explore these techniques deeply and propose unique universes and ways of narrating. Experimental has had an exponential growth since it began to be a separate section of our national competitions, so that this year for the first time we will have two programs with works that blur the boundaries between classic formats, that play with narrative elements and that rest on formal explorations. The videoclip continues to be characterized by its versatility and a constant play with film genres with a high level of production. It will undoubtedly be a year in which the Santa Lucía is not assured for any film and in which not only the juries, but also the audiences, will play a key role in the possibility of granting this award. The festival is proud to recognize each year the talents in the different artistic and technical roles of these productions by awarding them the Santa Lucía, our official statuette, in the hope that it will illuminate their paths of learning and permanent innovation. Continuing with our commitment to strengthen the Colombian audiovisual industry, since 2021 the short films directed by Colombians or of Colombian production that are selected in the F3 - Fan Freak Fantastic Competition, not only participate for the Santa Lucía awarded in this section, but also for the artistic and technical awards of the National Competition. This year, five Colombian short films will have that opportunity. Since 2018, the Santa Lucía also has the power to broaden the horizon of appreciation of the winning short films for Best Short Film in the categories of Fiction, Animation and Documentary, as they will be eligible for consideration in the same categories of the Oscars®, since the Bogotá Short Film Festival / Festival de Cortos de Bogotá - BOGOSHORTS is part of the list of qualifying festivals for the Academy Awards® of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States.
