El Comité de Selección del Bogotá Short Film Festival / Festival de Cortos de Bogotá - BOGOSHORTS, evaluó en 2021 más de 3000 cortometrajes provenientes de más de 125 países del mundo, a partir de la convocatoria oficial del festival, el contacto permanente con aliados estratégicos dedicados a la circulación de cortos a nivel internacional y la asistencia a festivales y mercados de cine, para seleccionar los 65 cortometrajes que componen en esta edición, la Competencia Internacional. La crisis de salud pública global que cumple dos años, sin duda afectó las dinámicas de la producción audiovisual alrededor del mundo, y pudimos sentir una reducción en las inscripciones de ciertos territorios y una menor cantidad de obras estudiantiles. Sin embargo, realizadores emergentes y otros de notable experiencia, se siguen haciendo presentes en esta Competencia con auténticas propuestas de autor o cautivadoras historias de gran riqueza audiovisual, que ratifican la versatilidad del formato corto. Además, podemos destacar que en estos dos años hemos recibido e incluido una significativa cantidad de cortos que abordan problemáticas sociales y las realidades de comunidades poco representadas en el cine, y la creciente participación de mujeres cineastas y artistas, que ratifican la importancia de conseguir un mejor posicionamiento de su trabajo, para alcanzar igualdad y diversidad en la industria cinematográfica. Todo esto, refleja la resiliencia de la industria de los formatos cortos y el poder del cine para actuar sobre el nuestro desarrollo como sociedad.

Desde el 2020, BOGOSHORTS ha sido incluido en el listado de festivales internacionales calificadores a los Premios Goya de la Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España. Los cortometrajes españoles de ficción y documental seleccionados en nuestras competencias oficiales serán elegibles para las categorías de Mejor Cortometraje de Ficción y Documental de este importante reconocimiento de la industria cinematográfica del país ibérico. The Selection Committee of the Bogotá Short Film Festival / Festival de Cortos de Bogotá - BOGOSHORTS, evaluated in 2021 more than 3,000 short films from over 125 countries around the world, based on the festival’s official call for entries, permanent contact with strategic allies dedicated to the circulation of short films internationally and attendance to film festivals and markets, to select the 65 short films that make up this edition of the International Competition. The global public health crisis, now in its second year, undoubtedly affected the dynamics of audiovisual production around the world, and we could feel a reduction in entries from certain territories and a lower number of student works. However, emerging filmmakers and others with notable experience are still present in this competition with authentic authorial proposals or captivating stories of great audiovisual richness, which ratify the versatility of the short film format. In addition, we can highlight that in these two years we have received and included a significant number of short films that address social issues and the realities of communities underrepresented in cinema, and the growing participation of women filmmakers and artists, which ratify the importance of achieving a better positioning of their work, in order to reach equality and diversity in the film industry. All this reflects the resilience of the short formats industry and the power of cinema to act on our development as a society. Since 2020, BOGOSHORTS has been included in the list of international qualifying festivals for the Goya Awards of the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Spanish fiction and documentary short films selected in our official competitions will be eligible for the Best Fiction and Best Documentary Short Film categories of this important recognition of the Iberian country’s film industry.
