This is the time of the year that many people make New Year’s resolutions. Let 2017 be a year you accomplish your resolution with some help from the Wentzville Parks and Recreation Department (WPRD). Whether your resolution is to be more active, eat healthier, learn something new, give back to the community or just spend more time with loved ones, we can help! You can save on pricey gym fees, find fun things to do with the family, volunteer at one of our many events and meet new friends who enjoy the things you do too.

We, too, are setting goals for 2017. In the past three years, WPRD has worked hard on finishing construction on the three newest parks in the community: William H. Allen Park with the Splash Station Aquatic Center, Heartland Park and Peruque Valley Park. In 2017, Peruque Valley Park will have its official grand opening and the Dockler 4-Plex (baseball/ softball fields) will help accommodate more teams for both youth and adult sports. The park also includes an additional two miles of walking/ biking trails for those in our community who enjoy the benefits of being outside enjoying nature.

WPRD will also continue to make improvements to our existing facilities. Just a few of the exciting improvements coming this year will include: additional shade at Splash Station, renovating the classroom at Progress Park to offer better programming space for our youth and adult enrichment programs, and a new barbeque area at Rotary Park to honor our friend, long-time Wentzville Parks and Recreation Board member and community volunteer, Bob Burke.

WPRD continues to welcome your feedback on how we can continue to make our community a better place to live, work, play and visit.

Parks & Recreation Board

This volunteer advisory group to the Board of Aldermen, Mayor and Director of Parks and Recreation serves as a sounding board by holding public meetings and exercising influence throughout the City to improve and expand recreational opportunities. Members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen for a three-year term. The Parks & Recreation Board meets at 6:30P on the first Monday of each month at Wentzville City Hall (310 W. Pearce Blvd.). The meetings are open to the public. Tree Board

Wentzville has been recognized for six consecutive years as a "Tree City USA" recipient. In the fall of 2014, Wentzville's Parks and Recreation Board created the Tree Board, which reviews the City's tree and landscape ordinances. The Tree Board consists of four members: Jim Mitchell, Scott Skopec, J.J. Suftko and Chairman Peggy Meyer. Resident and Nonresident Definitions Wentzville residents are those living within the city limits of the City of Wentzville. City limits and Post Office boundaries are not the same, so it’s possible to have a Wentzville address yet live outside the city. A Household Annual Pass consists of two adults and three children, 22 years of age or younger, living in the same household. Additional children may be added to a membership for $25 per child (for residents) or $35 per child (for nonresidents).

Resident Card* Information Resident Cards enable Wentzville residents to access recreation facilities, recreation programs and classes at discounted resident prices. Cards can be purchased at Progress Park (968 Meyer Rd.) for $5 per person.

Each resident, ages 2 and up, must have a resident card in order to access the facilities at the resident rate.

The resident card offers the following benefits: • Early registration for programs (before nonresidents) • One-time free admission to one Parks and Recreation facility • Free trees or seedlings at the annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway (while supplies last) • Reduced rates when reserving City facilities • Reduced rates on annual passes and daily admission • Discounts on many City-sponsored recreation programs and classes To obtain a Wentzville Resident Card, you must present both proof of identity and proof of residency.

Acceptable forms of ID, which MUST** show your current Wentzville address, include: • State-issued Driver’s License • Missouri ID Card • College Student ID Card • Military ID Card

* Resident Cards must be shown to obtain resident rates.

In addition, residents need one of the following with the same address as the photo ID: • An unpaid utility bill • A personal check with preprinted name and address • A current auto or voter registration • A current personal property tax statement • The most recent income tax statement • A current rental lease agreement

Memorial Tree and Bench Program You can honor your loved ones within our park system. Legacy trees and memorial benches provide a lasting way to pay tribute to a loved one or friend. You may also provide a donation to be used for park and recreation purposes. For further information, please contact Linda Ziolko at (636) 639-2082 or by email at Linda.Ziolko@wentzvillemo.org.

We need your help!

Vandalism in your park system is a serious, unnecessary and costly problem.

Each year, the City spends thousands of tax dollars to remove graffiti and repair damage done by vandals. We would much rather use your funding to enhance and beautify the parks! If you have a cell phone with you or live adjacent to a park, you can help us out with “PARK WATCH” program. If you see anyone acting suspicious, damaging property, driving on the grass or defacing playground equipment, please report it by calling the Wentzville Police Department at (636) 327-5105. THANK YOU!

Children ages 9 and younger require that an adult (16+) remain at the facility with them.

Wentzville CERT CERT or Community Emergency Response Team, is a program in which the Wentzville Police Department partners with the Wentzville Fire Department and the Wentzville Emergency Management Office. Wentzville CERT meets every other month at the Wentzville Police Department and offers free training opportunities to the public. Participants receive training in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. After training, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhoods or workplaces following an event when professional responders are not immediately available. Registration is recommended to ensure enough space for all participants; please email Wentzville CERT at wentvillecert@aol.com (please note: there is no “z”).

Whether it is a family outing, corporate picnic, wedding or other special event, we make it easy for you to host your event.

Photos & Videos The City of Wentzville may take photos and/or videos of enrolled program participants. These photos/videos are for City use only and may be used in future brochures, on the City of Wentzville website, on social media pages, in fliers or on displays. If you do not want yourself or your child photographed/filmed, please notify the administration office in writing in advance of the program starting.

Refund Guidelines: • A full (100%) refund/credit/transfer will be given if Wentzville Parks & Recreation cancels the program or rental.

• If the participant withdraws from the program before the first class/game*, the department must receive a request and a full refund will be given, less a $10 administrative fee**.

• *No refunds will be issued for adult leagues after the registration deadline.

• Refunds for medical reasons requested prior to the start date of program will be granted a full refund** subject to verification.

• If the participant withdraws from the program any time after the first class/game, the department requires a request and a prorated refund will be given, less a $10 administrative fee**.

No refunds will be issued after the program/session is half over.

• **All youth league refunds will be less the cost of uniforms.

• A credit may be applied to participant’s account instead of a refund. Credit can be used on future programs. A credit may be used by any member on the same household account.

• An administrative cancellation fee of $10 or 10% of the reservation fee, whichever is greater, will apply to all rentals canceled up to two weeks before the event. Cancellations requested less than two weeks from the date of the activity will be charged 50% of the reservation fee.

WE P.L.A.Y. Scholarship (Wentzville Residents Only)

Register Early for Programs All programs must meet minimum enrollment in order to be offered.

If there are not enough registrants, a course must be canceled.

Unless otherwise noted, all registrations must be received a minimum of one week prior to the start of the first class. Parks and Recreation reserves the right to cancel, postpone, combine classes or change instructors as needed. If a class is canceled due to lack of enrollment, registered class participants will be notified of an alternate class or program if one is available, or a full refund check or credit slip will be processed within four weeks.

Who is eligible? City of Wentzville residents who are experiencing financial difficulty or who are in a unique hardship situation may apply.

•

How does the program work? Children residing within the city limits and who qualify through the established guidelines of free lunch program utilized by the Wentzville and Fort Zumwalt school districts are eligible to apply. Children who do not receive the reduced or free lunch program may still qualify and are encouraged to apply, if assistance is needed.

Children ages 17 and under are eligible to receive one program scholarship per brochure with a maximum of three per year.

Accommodation Policy We offer medical reasonable accommodations to enable an individual’s successful participation in our programs and services.

To ensure a medically safe and appropriately planned program, please provide any special needs or precautions which may require medical accommodations for participation; once the registration has been processed, a staff member will call the registrant to obtain additional information. The Wentzville Days Fair and Music Festival will once again bring a three-day, family-friendly celebration to the streets of Downtown Wentzville. The committee is working on expanding our festival additions such as a barbecue contest, new bands and entertainment options, an exclusive children’s area including a carnival, and much more.

The memories will last a lifetime when you attend this special evening. This threehour event includes dinner, dancing, games, a craft and more. A Night at the Mouse Races

Join the Friends of the Wentzville Parks (FOTWP) for a night of fun, food and drinks as we cheer on the mice to see which one is the fastest! Proceeds benefit the FOTWP, a 501 (c)3, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping improve parks and recreation opportunities in the City of Wentzville. This organization also helps ensure that Wentzville's youth have access to these opportunities, regardless of their ability to pay. A light snack and beverages will be provided. You're welcome to bring your own food to share with your table. The fun includes a silent auction, raffles, a 50/50 drawing and more! Mission: Clean Stream (Ages 6+)

Join hundreds of volunteers to help restore Peruque and Dry Branch creeks. These bodies of water are important to the health of our community and support a variety of wildlife. Register as an individual, family, or organization (ages 6 and up). Register

by MAR 17, to guarantee a free T-shirt. The cleanup runs 9-11 am, and volunteers are invited back to the park for a light lunch and the GM Earth Day Festival.

GM Earth Day Festival

The GM Earth Day Festival ends at 1P and will run in tandem with Mission: Clean Stream. Enjoy live music, demonstrations and hands-on activities from vendors such as Children’s Hospital and Lowe’s. You can sample green products and check out local artisans creating items from upcycled materials. Also don’t forget to stop by the Parks and Recreation booth to pick up your free seedlings (for Resident Card holders only).

Clear your home of unwanted items by selling them at Wentzville’s annual Spring Yard Sale or enjoy a fun shopping expedition by hunting down the best bargains! For $6 you can list your sale. Easter EGGstravaganza

Hippity hop, Easter’s on its way! The Easter Bunny has been filling thousands of eggs with candy and prizes for the annual Easter EGGstravaganza. Some eggs will contain a slip of paper for prizes. Don’t forget your basket to collect all your goodies. Children will be grouped according to their age. Children may move up to older age groups, but not down to younger age groups. Come early and enjoy face painting and games.

Registration in advance is $3/child. The day of the event is $5. You must have your ticket on the day of the event to hunt. Don’t miss this EGGciting event! Bone Hunt

Your dog will bark for bones when all kinds of dog treats and bones will be hidden for your furry friends. Your dog will be allowed to try to find as many goodies as possible.

Dogs must remain on leashes at all times. Don’t forget to bring a basket to put your treats in! After the hunting ends, each dog will receive a “doggie bag” to take home.

We will also draw for door prizes. Dogs and their owners may roam around in the park after the event and take advantage of our trail, which is a little over a mile in length and loops around the lake. Day of registration is $15/dog. Bunny Run 5K and One-Mile Fun Run

Get ready for Egg Hunting with The Bunny Run 5K and One-Mile Fun Run! Put on your speed enhancing bunny ears and tie up your laces as you race around beautiful Rotary Park before the Easter Eggstravaganza! In addition to the Bunny Run 5K, we will have the One-Mile Fun Run/Walk. These fun family events feature a beautiful course that you are sure to enjoy, plus face painters for the kids, a visit from the Easter Bunny, post-race food and drinks, a chocolate bunny finishers prize for all participants, as well as overall and age-group awards. If you find an Easter egg along the way, be sure to pick it up for a possible surprise at the finish! Costume contest for team, best female, and best male (judging at 6:45A before race starts at 7A). *Registration starts at 6:30A; race starts at 7A. The winners of the 5K run in each of the following age groups will receive awards; 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60- 69, 70 and older. What makes a tree planting successful for the life of a tree? Find out in this informative, hands-on tree planting demonstration provided by Wentzville Parks and Recreation’s Horticulture & Forestry Division. You will learn how to choose a quality tree, why planting depth matters and many other tree planting tips for success. This two-and-a-half-hour seminar will be led by Danny Moncheski, community forester for the Missouri Department of Conservation. The Wentzville Parks and Recreation Department is part of the New Horizons Youth Baseball League (NHYBL). This league consists of Lake St. Louis, New Melle, Dardenne Prairie and Wright City. Games are played M-TH. All standings, games and team information for this league is on www.quickscores.com. Divisions are 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 15U. First-place teams in each division are provided trophies by their home associations. 7U & 8U will play machine pitch.

9U and up will play player pitch. Team registration and individual registration are accepted ― all children registering individually will be randomly placed on teams.

Storybook Walk at Heartland Park The Friends of the Wentzville Parks is excited to sponsor a new amenity at Heartland Park! The Storybook Walk provides a new outdoor adventure that champions family connection, early childhood development, and health and wellness. Stories are handpicked by local library staff quarterly with a child’s enjoyment in mind. July 4th Parade and Liberty Fest

Don’t miss the annual 4th of July parade! Starts at 10A from Holt High School and travels east on Pearce Boulevard and ends at Luektenhaus Boulevard. Everyone is invited to participate in the parade by making or designing a float. This year’s theme is, Hail Our American Heritage. Floats will be judged for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall, best musical entry for 1st and 2nd place, and Mayor’s Choice for 1st and 2nd place. Float registration required, please call the Parks and Recreation Department at (636) 332-9236.

The parade application and guidelines will be made available online at www.wentzvillemo.org. Please note: parade particpants cannot throw items or candy from cars or floats. Individuals walking next to a car or float may handout candy or items while walking along the parade route.

After the parade, head over to Progress Park for FREE activities all day and night! Free Swim: Noon-5P (Progress Pool ONLY) Inflatables & FREE Face Painting: 5-8:45P, Live Music: 6-9P, Fireworks: 9:05P. Want to be a Liberty Fest sponsor?
