Wentzville is a community committed to quality living. This commitment has created the extensive park and recreation system that offers community and neighborhood parks, natural areas and open spaces, trails, recreational facilities, aquatic centers and more. To that end, Jake’s Field of Dreams is a new universally accessible playground being planned for Heartland Park. The project commemorates Jake Vollmer who passed away in 2012 after a lengthy battle with muscular dystrophy. Jake was like so many other little boys who dreamed of growing up playing sports. Knowing he would never play like his heroes, Jake became the greatest sports fan, cheering for all who played the games he could not. This playground will help so many kids share Jake’s dream – no matter their ability – to enjoy the thrill of playing side-by-side with their peers. This playground is an exciting partnership between the City of Wentzville and Unlimited Play, an organization that helps facilitate themed playgrounds for communities all across the United States. The City’s Parks and Recreation Fund has budgeted $500,000 toward this playground, and Unlimited Play has taken the lead to raise an additional $590,000 from individuals, corporate donors and granting agencies for whom this type of project would be eligible. We expect to break ground in 2018 on this project. We look forward to sharing more about this project in the near future.

We can help you tie-up your New Year's Resolutions!

Mike Lueck, Director
