Key Volunteers welcome! New, exciting programs! Fun, free programs!

Message from the Department: Over the past year, the programs and activities we know and love have changed a great deal. We recognize that even in these difficult times, recreation and parks still play an important role in the community. Perhaps now more than ever, we realize how critical fun and human connection really are. Staff has worked tirelessly to quickly create and adapt programs when possible to continue to bring people together in a way that they feel comfortable participating. We brought the Easter Bunny to homes in the Wentzville community when it was not feasible to hold our annual Easter EGGstravaganza and even offered virtual fitness classes and bingo so that people could socialize and stay active in the comfort of their own home. While we all look forward to a day when we can gather freely again, it is likely that things will only continue to change in the months ahead. Rest assured, we continue to look for new and innovative ways to bring you the programs you know and love while keeping current health concerns in mind. Circumstances may require programs to change and we want our community to be able to stay up-to-date with the new and exciting programs we offer. Luckily, we have more ways than ever for you to stay in the loop! Fun Times is currently being offered in a digital-only format, which allows us to update the document with changes as they happen so it always has the most current information. We also recently launched our very first Wentzville Parks and Recreation eNewsletter. It is sent monthly and is a great way to stay in-the-know and receive reminders about what is coming soon. We also encourage you to follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter to say hello and see what is happening in your community. We look forward to seeing you in the parks!

Flexible programming allows us to stay connected and healthy!

Socially Distanced Programs Easter Egg Deliveries bring the magic of Easter to your home with no contact!

Virtual Programs Some programs including fitness classes are offered virtually so you can participate from the comfort of your home!

Start the season off with our annual 5K Bunny Run or One-Mile Fun Run! Whether you want to take on the 5K or walk/run with friends and family on the One-Mile Fun Run, it’s time to put on your speed enhancing shoes and tie up your laces as you race around beautiful Heartland Park before the Easter EGGstravaganza! These fun family events feature a beautiful course you are sure to enjoy. All registered participants will receive a custom race shirt, on-course water stations and post race drinks and snacks. To guarantee shirt sizes, please register by MAR 1. The race will be professionally timed for all 5K and 10K participants.

Egg Hunt

Hippity hop, Easter’s on its way! The Easter Bunny has been filling thousands of eggs with candy and prizes for the Egg Hunt at our annual Easter Egg Hunt! We are pleased to be able to offer our annual Egg Hunt with the elements you know and love! However, it is important to note that this year’s event will come with some changes in order to offer it in a safer way.

*Packet pickup and same-day registration starts at 5:30A; race starts at 7A. 10K course is a second lap of the 5K course. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female winners for the 5K. Age group awards will be given to the male and female winners of the 5K and 10K run in each of the following age groups; 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60- 69, 70 and older. Overall winners will not be awarded for winning their age group. Participants can pick up packets early at Wentzville Ice Arena on MAR 25 from 9A-1P or MAR 26 from 4:30-8P. Day of registration will cost $5 more**. The first change is that we are offering more hunt timeslots than in years past. We will have hunts at 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. For $10, each family will register to hunt a 20’x20’ section of the field. Participants will also need to specify how many hunters they will have on their field for an additional $5 per hunter. We expect this event to fill quickly so it is important that participants register in advance to ensure that they will have a section of field to hunt. If fields are still available, day-of registration will be offered for $15 for a field and $7 per hunter. Here is an example map of what the field sections will look like.

Your dog will bark for bones when all kinds of dog treats, bones and toys are hidden for your furry friends. Your dog will be allowed to try to find as many goodies as possible. Dogs must remain on leashes at all times. Don’t forget to bring a basket to put their treats in! Before the hunting ends, each dog will receive a “doggie bag” to take home. We will also draw for door prizes. Dogs and their owners may roam around in the park after the event and take advantage of our trail, which is a little over a mile in length and loops around the lake. You must turn in proof of vaccinations when registering your pet. Please call (636) 332-9236 or stop by the front desk to register. Please be on time for this event because it doesn’t take long for the dogs to gather all the bones. *Cost is $8/10 per dog in advance or $15 for day-of registration. (Min 25/Max 75) SA

Rec Premier Soccer (Ages 6-14) We are proud to announce our partnership with the City of O'Fallon in developing a more competitive soccer playing experience. Additionally, we have secured the services of CORE Soccer Training Director, Jamie Swanner, and his qualified staff to oversee and run this program. This new Rec Premier Soccer program will be based on true small 4v4 game play with technical development along with the tactical awareness needed for the individual player. We will train on a specific skill each week for the first 15 minutes, then divide up for a two 20-minute-half 4v4 game. Week one, we will introduce the 4v4 format as well as train. Weeks two through seven we will follow a progressive skillenhancement program, then game play. We recommend players stay on their existing recreational league teams and utilize this league as a player-enhancement program. Player groupings may be mixed depending on skill level and gender. Each player will receive two jerseys and a sack pack in addition to training and game play. The location will alternate weeks between Heartland Park in Wentzville and Dames Park in O'Fallon. Coaches Wanted! We are looking for volunteer coaches for our youth sports teams. Our coaches are an important part of the program's success and can also be incredibly rewarding. But don't take it from us! Here is what one of our coaches had to say!

"Watching them learn and grow with enthusiasm is what it's all about for me. I coach them to be good players, good teammates and most importantly, good people. The teams I've coached are not concerned about wins and losses. Every time these kids step on the field they've already won in my eyes. Scoreboards are for the fans, not the players. These kids deserve the best opportunity possible and if I can put a smile on each one of their faces, I feel that's the greatest reward of all." — Volunteer Coach, Derek April For information on how to become a coach, please visit www.wentzvillemo.gov/volunteer.
