spring is here; the days are longer, the sun is closer, the flowers have waited patiently under the cool, dark ground. We wake to the sounds of robins outside the windows and the schoolyards are again filled with laughter. We are emerging— shedding our winter coats and boots.
It is time to gear up and get going. Historic Kennett Square is the perfect walking town, the perfect town to grab a cup of coffee, or lunch or dinner or drinks and enjoy the beauty and serenity of the streetscapes. It is a hometown where you will be greeted by a friendly smile and warm conversation. But is also a town with a deep soul and great style. It is time to shop and refresh. Walking down the streets you will find everything you need with the personal help of the business owners. From beautiful shoes to rugged outdoor wear to the perfect little dress to flattering makeup, each shop owner will guide you so you feel and look your best. It is a time of the Arts in Kennett Square. The First Friday Downtown Art Strolls begin on March 4 and the community hums with great artistic talent. The evening of the Arts on April 1 is the time to support and honor incredibly talented and community minded local artists. It is time to get out and get fit and healthy (and hope my jeans fit after I shed my winter yoga pants). Take the kids and take the dogs to Anson B. Nixon Park and unleash your own inner child. There are picnic benches and playgrounds and trails and concerts and even a trout rodeo on May 7 in both the stocked ponds. Feel the soft spring sun on your face and create memories with those you love. Spring is here and our hearts are lighter. I urge you get out and enjoy all that is unique and special about Historic Kennett Square. After all, how can you not love a town with a Kennett Community happiness day? Count me in with a smile! With appreciation and admiration, Allison Snavely-Villano Meet the entire creative & talented team that makes Fig Kennett possible at figindustries.com.

charlene richardson is ready to get you stronger and moving better! Late this
summer, she will open ANCHOR life + fitness, a wellness facility that offers a host of strength and conditioning classes and training for different age groups, including 55+ classes for strength and mobility. She’s a certified personal trainer, who has been in the industry for more than 8 years, with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Immaculata University and master’s degree in exercise physiology from Bowling Green State University. In her experience, she has worked with a variety of people, the elderly and the young alike, helping them reach their goals, whether that is training
for a marathon, increasing strength for next season's soccer schedule, or chasing around the grandkids. “ANCHOR, symbolizes strength to me,” Charlene says, emphasizing it is not just about fitness but about choosing a healthy lifestyle and exercise plan that is customized and can be sustained at any age. She’s excited to integrate a kitchen into the facility—where she will host fun community-minded healthy cooking demonstrations and tastings with local chefs and dietitians. ANCHOR life + fitness will have an industrial, stripped down feel with concrete tile floors, reclaimed wood walls, and distinctive lighting, accented by modern

furnishings to create a uniquely inviting atmosphere. “We are excited to bring this old building back to life,” Says Richardson’s wife, (Renee) a Project Manager at an Architecture firm who has designed the future space. “Everybody moves differently and needs to have a program that’s tailored specifically to them in order to properly increase strength and mobility.” Each person will have a movement assessment performed prior to having them begin a program or enter a class, to prolong longevity in fitness. LISA MOORE
“everyday is different,” says
Township Manager Lisa Moore. Whether managing employees, subdivisions, developments, ordinances, grants, or working with the budget, Moore’s litany of tasks ultimately benefits the residents of Kennett Square. Moore earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business with a minor in finance. She has happily worked for the township for twenty years and is constantly energized by new projects and initiatives. “We got an $850,000 grant for a sidewalk project that will connect the borough in different parts of the township,” she says,

adding that cooperation between the two has been extremely successful. The township also applied for a $4 million dollar grant to add bicycles and pedestrian paths to the Kennett Trails, which the township will match if they get the grant. “We’re definitely committed to making this a walkable community,” she says. Additionally, the township and borough are working together on an economic development plan to establish a guide for developers. “It’s important that everyone works together,” she says, acknowledging the professionalism and support of board supervisors, staff, township officials, and volunteers.
“Our goals for the future include managing smart growth in the township, continuing to make this a walkable community, and preserving as much open space as possible,” she says. When she’s not working hard for the community, she loves to shop downtown, ride dirt bikes with her family, go to the beach, and take her dog, Ollie, for hikes. “I was born and raised here. I feel that we have an exceptionally beautiful community and it’s well run. We’re going to continue to do great things.” Learn more at kennett.pa.us.

Tennis. I play every chance I get. There are three lovely public courts right here in Kennett Square at Anson B. Nixon Park. I like to grab a Matcha Green Tea Smoothie from Yo’R So Sweet before heading to the courts.

Anson B. Nixon Park is such a great resource in a small town; I still don’t quite get how such a big green space fits in a small area. When my husband hits the disc golf course, I walk along with him with my Westie, Ted. I also love the Meadow Garden at Longwood because it’s so quiet and removed. If you take the longer trails, it’s quite a hike! And it’s beautiful in every season.
LY N N S I N C L A I R
I enjoy sailing and swimming in summer and walking year-round. My favorite places to walk are Longwood Gardens, Anson B. Nixon Park, The Laurels, and Union Hill Cemetery. I select the location for the mood I’m in: The Laurels for a strength training hike, the park for a talking-walk with a friend, Longwood for visual stimulation and inspiration, and Union Hill for a contemplative stroll.
