COLORADO SPRINGS, June 27, 2010: District 6 Quad rider Bob Kline of Columbia, Pa., competed in the 88th running of the Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb on his Honda 450. Annually, the City of Colorado Springs hosts the Pike’s Peak (billed as America’s Mountain) International Hill Climb. This weeklong event attracts racers from across the world. Kline has been traveling to Pike’s Peak for the past three years trying to secure the coveted firstplace podium spot. Beginning with a third-place finish in 2008, then a second-place finish in 2009, Kline was sitting in excellent position this year to achieve his goal with a recordbreaking qualifying time. When the dust settled and the snow stopped, Bob Kline brought home the crystal trophy for the top spot with a first-place finish time of 12:44. While it takes 19 miles to reach the summit, the race begins at the 7-mile marker, where you begin a 12.42-mile adrenaline pumping, high altitude race against the mountain. Racers experience 156 turns on pavement and gravel surfaces with vertical drops of 6,000 feet or more and no guardrails! The elevation at the start is 9,390 feet and concludes at 14,110 feet. Temperatures can range from a summery 85 degrees at the start and end with 35 degrees and snow at the summit! As a competitor, Kline describes the race as euphoric. It’s the best TT race around, with speeds in the straightaway topping 90 miles per hour. The challenges are many, ranging from tire selection for multi surfaces to dialing in the carburetor for maximum rpm’s with the changing altitude and great shocks. Bob would like to thank sponsors Lancaster Honda, TC Racing Engines, Houser Racing, Elka Suspension, Mid Atlantic Hoosier and Kline Services. Visit www.ppihc.com for a complete outline of the specifications for this event.

MDRA Round 7 and Mainline Series Sleepy Hollow - June 13, 2010 By Jim Mucklin - www.jimmucklinphotography.com take the overall in Super Mini. Savion “Mr T” Terry is back and takes the overall in 65 (7-11) B and in the 85 (9-11). Ride of the day goes out to Jack Rodgers in the 50. Great ride, Jack. Maybe you could show those guys on pit bikes how to stay up. And that’s the way I saw it.
TWO RACES,ONE DAY The heat continues with two races on the same day at the Hollow. You can check out all the points standings at the D6, Sleepy, Pagoda and MDRA websites. Started off the day knowing it was going to be a scorcher. I started my walk around and couldn’t help notice the amount of Vet and Senior riders here, and that says a lot about the sport. Let’s get racing the C class. I sometimes miss them in my articles, but this year I started looking at them and the MDRA series. You hear a lot about guys hanging back to stay in a class, but not these guys. I met up with Sean Baxley on the 312 (YAM), 14 and got his game plan down; heck, he could be riding in Supermini yet. He stepped up with a (1-1) to take overall, with the 941 (Yam) of Calvyn Beck right on him with a (2-2) for 2nd overall. In the 250 C, 40 bikes to the gate, but in the end it was Pinto (2-1), Galloway (2-2) and Beck with a (1-3); no sandbagging here, Mr. Vet rider. Big B, Open B action: the #19 of Tyler Conner takes the top step with a (1-2), Alex Maldet goes next with a (3-1), followed by Steven Good with a (2-3). In the 250B it was Dakota Yohe on the #77 (YAM) with a (1-1). Ryan Clites gets second with a (2-3), and Alex
#312 of Sean Baxley wins the Open C.
Maldet on the #187 takes third. Looks like Yamaha had a really good day. Good clean racing over in Four Stroke. Dakota Yohe looked better each lap. I don’t

know if it’s the training, but he seemed faster as the day went on, and he takes overall with a (1-1). The heat didn’t bother the #31 of Steven Good; he takes 2nd with a (2-2), followed by Sean Baxley on that #312 (Yam). It’ nice to see good, clean racing and guys from Mike Bear brings them around the first turn. different age groups going at it. In Open A and 250A, it was a 1,2,3 finish for Open C: Lowell Spangler on the team green machine, 1) Baxley; 2) Beck; 3) Green; 4) Gay followed by Dan Corbin on the #6 (Yam) and 250C: Matt Hougentogler on the #54 (Hon). Thanks 1) Pinto; 2) Galloway; 3) Beck; 4) Kendig Lowell and all the A riders; you made the day Plus 25: 1) Aughinbaugh; 2) Bear; 3) Futer; 4) for me. 25+, Chad Aughinbaugh, gets the big Baldridge holeshot to take overall with a (12), Mike Bear gets 2nd with a (31), and, wait a minute, who’s on that #307 (Hon), it’s Mike “I’m on fire” Futer taking third overall. In the 30+B, John Barto throws down a (1-1) for the overall. Eddie Anewalt throws down a (2-1) to take first in Senior A and holds off the (1-3) of Chris Lykens. Brandon ‘G-man” Garlock continues his reign in Junior Mini. Colin Richards on the #911 (Kaw) holds off Lowell shows me the skid plate and takes Galbraith, Bowers and Emory to the Open and 250A.

Budds Creek - June 20, 2010
By PJ Timberman - www.delmarvasportsphotography.com After a day of watching some exciting pro motocross action, the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship race 4 of 12 held at Budds Creek on June 19, the amateur riders got a chance to compete on Sunday, the 20th. It was another hot Maryland weekend as temps stayed in the 90s both days. Junior and Supermini were the first classes to take the gate, with Joey Deneen #22 winning Supermini and Cameron Dowell taking Jr. Mini. Deneen had an excellent day, winning six times to take all of his motos, the other four coming in Schoolboy 12-16 and Open C. Dowell also had a good day by winning five out of six of his motos. Besides the two in Jr. Mini, he won both in 85cc 9-11 and took the first win in the 65cc 10-11 class, but Kyle Henderson #449 came back to take the second and the overall win. Tyler Knowlton #404 won all four of his motos, two each in Open B and Collegeboy. Mason Dixon Motorsports Short Track Series Short Track Lampeter Fireman’s Fairgrounds By Len & Ben Breech Lampeter, PA - June 26, 2010 New Winners Highlight Lampeter ST With all the Pro riders but one attending the Lima National, that allowed many former riders or non-pros to strut their stuff at the front of the main classes, Open A and 450 Sportsman. Steve Lerch took the Open A lead from Tom McGrane; pro rider Cory Texter, who was testing his healing wrist before returning to the National circuit; and Ryan Connelly. For several laps, McGrane kept the pressure on Lerch, until the fifth lap, when he used a high/ low move in three and four to slip his McGrane Racing Team/Don’s Kawasaki Kawasaki under him off four for the lead. Lerch stayed close,
450 Sportsman: 1st (18) Ace Phillips; 2nd (99A) Tom McGrane
Devon Gebhart. Bergman took the lead at the start of the third lap, while Smith sliced his way to third on the same lap. Bergman put some distance on Trout while he held off Smith till the fifth lap. Over the next four laps, Smith cut into her lead, but she won by a few lengths. The ever unpredictable Open B class had another winner, as Ronnie Mercer grabbed the lead from Greg Lerch, Kevin Bills and Jason Cunningham. Lerch kept the pressure on Mercer throughout, but Mercer held on for the win. Cunningham took third on the fifth lap.
250 B late laps: 1st (95) Samantha Bergman; 2nd (32) Colton Smith
and both were looking for their first final win of the year, but McGrane held on for the win. The 450 Sportsman had Ace Phillips leading McGrane, Connelly, Tyler Phillips and Lerch. Phillips and McGrane put some distance on the others, but the red flag came out for a crash before halfway. Off the restart, Phillips got by Connelly for third, while Phillips kept a tight line off the turns to prevent McGrane from pulling another high/low move. New faces also appeared in the larger Amateur classes. Colton Smith has dominated the 250 B class after the opening race, but
85 (7-11) and Youth Sportsman winner (14G) Dalton Gauthier
The status quo held in several classes, as Smith again destroyed the 125 final by a straight, with Chris Kirkner and Cody Ebersole battling for second. Ryan Varnes easily topped the 85 (12-15) final and, after a photo finish in the heat, easily ran away with the Youth 100 final over Cameron Smith and Chase Smith. Roy Miller again topped the 250 Sportsman. Tyler Phillips, Rich Mellinger, Colton and Bergman followed. Smith did an inside/outside move off four on the third lap to take over second. For the rest of the race he unsuccessfully tried to get under one of the masters. Open B: 1st (98) Ron Mercer; 2nd (73) Rick Winsett used Donnie Mullen’s Honda Greg Lerch; 3rd (14X) Jason Cunningham to grab the 30 + lead from Miller and Ace tonight he and two other front row starters Phillips. Phillips took second off four on the earned the ‘privilege’ of starting from the third opening lap and pressured Winsett to the end, line for jumping. Matt Trout took the lead from bumping into each other in their battle. Samantha Bergman, Darren Phillips Jr. and Dalton Gauthier doubled in the 85 (711) and Youth Sportsman, gradually putting a little distance on Cameron Smith in both. Brandon Price was a close third in the (7-8), with Colin Cunningham third in the Sportsman. One of the wilder finals was the opener, 40 +. After an incident in the first heat Sales • Service • Accessories involving Scott Mullen and Ray 310 Larch Street, Scranton, PA 18509 Jenkins, they lined up with Don Phone: 570-342-3280 • 800-713-3057 Mullen between them. Jim Murray’s
Smith. On the third lap, Jenkins bumped his way past Don for second on the third lap and a hard inside pass off four for the lead. He was later DQ’d for rough riding, giving Scott the win. With Path Valley being “flooded out” two weeks previous, tonight was the first chance Price had to race with his recently acquired 1NE for the 65 and 85 (7-11) Northeast Championships in those classes. He took the lead from Cunningham, Chris Thomas and Zack Kolsovsky at the start, but Cunningham took first at the start of the second lap. Price

regained it off four on the third lap as they stayed close to the end. As with any Mason Dixon Dirt Trackers sponsored event, there is usually other stuff going on other than flat tracking. Tonight they had a group of trials riders demonstrating their skills as you entered the fairgrounds. They also had a race for Bar Stool Racers! Picture a go-kart with a boiler plate chassis and a bar stool to sit on; not something with great low center of gravity, but entertaining. Out in front was Tyler Phillips with his dad, Darren, pressuring him to a mistake for the lead. Tom McGrane hovered close behind, hoping the Phillipses might take each other out, but not this time. 6_26_LAMPETER RESULTS 40 +: 1) Scott Mullen; 2) Mike Mester; 3) Dave Smith; 4) Ken Haldeman; 5) Rob Cazillo; 6) Cliff Diem; 7) Don Mullen 50 Chain Drive: 1) Doug Cook; 2) Robert Wheatley; 3) Quamere Brown; 4) Damon Ream; 5) Jordan Bennett

President’s Corner August D7 President’s Corner
MAMA Members,
As we go into the second part of the year, please don’t forget the dealerships and sponsors that have supported you the first part of the season. New this year was Tucker Rocky, and they have been supportive in all disciplines. They’ve provided hay bale covers, marking arrows, banners, trail tape, and pennants to all of the chairmen for their various disciplines. The District 7 website, www.amadistrict7.com, has the results of all of the participating racers as of this year. It was slow getting started and for the program to be announced, but the riders that signed up are all doing very well in the program. Check the results and see who’s going home with the money at the end of the season. The Enduro and Dual Sport series have had the support of Dutrow’s, Shenandoah Honda, Petes Cycle, Bob’s BMW, and Matto Cycle. Our series runs in conjunction with the ECEA series, but our loyal district riders have the support of the above sponsors. In these difficult economic times, we need to support our sponsors as much as possible. Please use these shops for all of their expertise and services that they provide. Our Dirt Track series runs in conjunction with District 6. Therefore, many of our supporting dealerships cross state lines. Don’s Kawasaki, Bromley Suzuki, Lancaster Harley Davidson, Pete’s Cycle, and Fredericktown Yamaha all have sponsored racers locally and nationally. I’ve written before about the success this district has on the national scene because of the support the above dealers have invested in these young professionals. Our local riders can benefit from the same support that the national riders get. Any rider can introduce themselves to any of the above and receive the same attention and support the big guys get. If you support and shop with them, they’ll reciprocate with the knowledge and winning ways that have taken others before you to the top. Motocross this year has a new promoter’s group. They have new sponsors along with the old and have the most Tucker Rocky sponsored riders. The new sponsors this year are B&E Motorsports in Easton, Maryland, and RNB Racing. RNB Racing
It has been another exciting month of racing for the Mid Atlantic Motocross Association. We continue to see awesome racing, great sportsmanship and a wonderful family atmosphere that makes MAMA the premiere youth motocross organization in the Mid Atlantic. This is in large part due to our committed members who consistently provide us ongoing guidance on how we are executing the racing and the overall weekend activities. This allows us to continue to improve our organization to better serve our members, and I would like to say thank you to all of our devoted members. Contingencies are a key part of our racing weekend, and I would like to again say thanks to the many sponsors: Cycle Effects, RNB, RPM Graphics, Full Moon Racing, Cernics, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Shenadoah Honda, Petes Cycle, Kenda Tire, Delmarva Power Sports, ADJ Sheet Metal, The Race Shop, Bumpstiks, AJ Yummies, Blettner Power Sports, Accurate Pest Control, Art of Strength, and others I may have missed. As of this letter, we have completed eight races. As our members are aware, we have had to reorganize our race schedule due to various reasons. Our August 14/15th race is now scheduled for VMP, which is a wonderful facility. Additionally, our September 11/12th race is now scheduled for Middleford Speedway. We are still working on scheduling our last race of the season and will advise as this becomes more solidified. Please continue to monitor your
has been at the track with trackside support along with a multitude of accessories and parts. Ellicott City Motorsports has also had technical support and a trailer at select races this year, which our riders are really taking advantage of. This is new for them this year, as they have always supported District 7. Our faithful longtime supporters are Twigg Cycles, Fredericktown Yamaha, JT Motorsports, Blettner Power Sports, Hanover Powersports, Cycle Effex, and Pete’s Cycle. Pete’s Cycle played a major role for District 7 in helping to bring Tucker Rocky on board. Pete’s has had specials on all Tucker Rocky gear and parts, as have all the other dealers. Again, please support these dealerships and sponsors because they are the lifeline for District 7 and your own racing careers. A catalog isn’t going to be at the track when something breaks. A catalog or website won’t build your career or give the manual support and personal connection that you’ll need on race day, Please again. Times are tough, and we all need to support one another. It’s so important that you support the dealership or any vendor that locally supports you and your racing series. If it wasn’t for them, our local tracks, series, banquet, and our racing family wouldn’t be possible. Thanks for your support. Wayne Sody
RPV for the classes eligible for advancement. We will try and post this on a weekly basis at the track for informational purposes. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure they sign up for the appropriate class. The new transponder system has been working flawlessly, and I hope all who have been using this system realize the benefits. Riders are able to see how they perform per lap and continue to look at ways of becoming even more competitive. Please do remember to charge your transponder for three hours prior to racing, and it should continue to work for the weekend. Please remember to race hard, have fun, and be safe. D6 Ultimate MX Series - Bikes Old Bridge Township Raceway Park Englishtown, NJ - June 27, 2010 Words and Images Scott Lukaitis Spangler Tops Ultimate Heat The 2010 version of the D6 Ultimate Series presented by MGX Unlimited rolled into Old Bridge Township’s Raceway Park on June 27th for Round #6 of the series. This 10-race series takes place at nine different tracks over the course of the summer and has become one of the most well-attended and popular series of events in the Northeast. An early summer heat wave meant temperatures in the mid90s and blazing sun all day long, so only the most fit riders would survive. The Raceway Park track staff kept the water truck going all day long, and despite some dusty sections, the track remained excellent all day long. The first 450 “A” class moto began with the Ocean County Powersports backed Suzuki of Frankie Lettieri out front with the Team Green Kawasaki of Lowell Spangler and the Mt. Holly Powersports KTM of Bryan Wallace hot on his heels. When the pack popped into view from the back of the track, Spangler had gone around Lettieri, who was still in second. A couple of laps in, it was all Lowell Spangler. Wallace was by Lettieri into second, and the Cycle House Honda mounted Anthony Roth was working his way up and challenging Lettieri. Then Lettieri had bike problems and DNF’d. At the checkered flag it was Spangler, Wallace, Roth, William Duffy and Ronnie Stewart rounding out the top 5. The second 450 “A” moto began with Mt.
Holly KTM mounted Ryan Gainey grabbing the early lead over first moto winner Spangler. Spangler was by Gainey in the back section of the track and began to stretch out his lead. Early on, the running order was Spangler, Stewart, Gainey and Wallace. Wallace got by his teammate into third, and by the end of the moto it was Spangler, Stewart, Wallace, Schmelyon, and Duffy rounding out the top 5. Spangler would take the overall (1-1) followed by Wallace (2-3), Stewart (5-2), Duffy (4-5) and Roth (3-6) rounding out the top 5. KX250 two-stroke mounted Kerry Kaminskie grabbed the holeshot in the first 250 “A” class moto. Lettieri was quickly by Kamininskie, with Spangler and Duffy in tow. Early on, Spangler
was hot on Lettieri’s heels and got around for the pass. By now, Schmelyon was joining the mix, and he too would get around Lettieri. At the moto’s end, it was Spangler, Schmelyon, Lettieri, Duffy, and Stewart. Suzuki mounted Addison Kramer grabbed the holeshot in moto # 2, but his lead was short-lived, as Spangler got by on the first lap and set the pace out front. Stewart settled into second, and Lettieri and Schmelyon were battling over the #3 spot. By the moto’s end it was Spangler, Stewart, Schmelyon, Duffy and Wallace rounding out the top 5. Spangler’s undefeated day gave him the overall (1-1), followed by Schmelyon (2-3), Stewart (5-2), Duffy (4-4) and Lettieri (36).

Mainline Series Round 5 Sleepy Hollow - July 3, 2010
By Jim Mucklin - www.jimmucklinphotography.com Race and a Wedding, is it possible?
Boltz, Barto, Fioravanti and many others who I don’t know yet but I see on the gate race after race. Let me not forget our groom of the day, Todd Weindel, the face and voice of Sleepy Hollow. In my time I can only think of one race that I was at that Todd wasn’t, so it’s easy to see that his commitment to his children and the sport will make Shannon a fine husband. So if you see Shannon (she’s the one with the 30 second board), congratulate her. The wedding was great. For those of you who weren’t there, they came out on bikes and got married on the table top at spectators row. Great wedding, great food, great people. So to Todd and Shannon, I wish you the best from a guy who is in the 35+years group of marriage.
were putting it down. 250B Kastle (2-1),Sharky (4-2), Chen (3-3), does it get any closer? There is nothing like a clean gate, but that second corner, first half lap is where it’s at for me. I respect the guys in A and B, and it’s
What a great idea: get married at Sleepy Hollow on July 3 after a day of racing. When I first heard the idea, I thought, “I have done a lot of location photography, but never a wedding at a track.” First for me, probably the first for Sleepy. We will get back to that. Saturday race, hot, hot, hot. I was talking to Jere Swarr, and he said they had been putting the water to it for days, and it looked good. Randy Kastle from Pagoda was here on the dozer, so it’s gonna be done right and will hold up, and it did. As I started to walk around, I stopped down to see Chad and Chuck Aughinbaugh from ECS Honda in Ephrata; I couldn’t help but notice Mr. Eric Swarr Dominic Tibberino wins the overall in 85C. was in the house along with Jeremy Cook, Frenchie, Matt Hougentogler, nice to watch riders make the transition from Mr. Disciullo on the 818, Chad, Bill Bleich and C to B, or B to A. Many spectators think it’s all raw talent, and that is a big part, but the Corey Wright in from Ohio. A will be good. The B guys are here: Richy Kastle, Alex commitment and training is what puts them on Maldet too. Got to see some friends who the steps and makes them an athlete. It’s the grew up on this track and haven’t been strength, agility and endurance they have that around, Patrick Sharkey on the 90 and Chris makes it look so easy. Easy and commitment Kalhauge. If you run in the top 5, look out; don’t mix. I must admit that sometimes I have to dig these two will either be right in front of you or deep for that commitment to walk amongst a coming around. full gate of C riders, but I’m workin’ on it. But What did you miss? If you get a chance, check out the mainline stats, We’re at round I came to see racing, and there’s some good 5, and some of the points are close. In some racing here. I’ve know Brad Roth for years and cases in the 65 and 85 groups, first to fourth is watched him make the transition to the big bikes, which he has done very well, and this separated by a couple of points. Open A- I never met Corey Wright, but I year I meet Sean Baxley from MD, both really got one shot of him on a gate drop where he nice, laid back. The only problem is that when is right in between Hougentogler and Cook, the gate drops they both want to be first, which 15 feet out and inches between their handle is a good thing for the fans, because this is bars, as serious as the day is long. But the 818 racing -- the feeling of Honda of Disciullo takes overall with a (1-2), putting it all out there, Cook with a (3-1), and Hougentogler takes knowing that there’s only one lap left, and third with a (4-3). Open B- Richy Kastle takes overall with a if I go down, it’s not (1-2), Maldet second with a (4-1), and Sharkey going to be second, throws down a (2-3) to take third, not a bad because there are five day for not being on a bike in a while. Chen guys right on my back looked good and takes 4th . No disrespect to fender, but if I don’t, all the great B riders we have, but these guys it’s not going to be first. I see a lot of this

Get the picture? 85B- Brennen Weindel, back on track (11), takes overall, Addison Emory (2-2), Kevin Rivera (3-3). Junior Mini- Weindel with a (1-1), Rivera second, followed by Nicholas Beck. Ride of the day: The #10 of Gage Stine, talk about focused, I saw him down at the gate, and he had one thing on his mind. He takes overall in the 65c with a (3-1), overall in 50 (78) with a (1-1) and overall in the 50 open with a (1-1). Nice riding Gage. What else did I see? Jeremy Cook turned up the 25+A with a (1-1). 25+B with a (1-1). Who’s that on the 818, yes it’s Jeremy Kready. Frenchie throws down a (1-1) to take overall in the 30+A and the 35+A. Chris Boltz gets the overall in 35+B with a (11). One of the pleasures I have is talking and meeting people and their families, and while thinking of this commitment theme, I looked at the Vet Riders. What commitment! Guys like Eddie Anewalt in the 40A+, who epitomizes the sport. Here we are July 4th, twelve 40+B/C riders at the gate. Guys like Frenchie, Sparks,

More than just fireworks were lighting up this July Fourth as the die-hard District 7 racers convened at Tomahawk MX Park for a hot and sweaty, Sunday, July 4, race. Despite temperatures nearing triple digits, the track was watered, prepped well and ready for racing! A smaller than usual amount of determined racers were hydrated and ready to hit the track regardless of the heat.
