Hello Race Fans!
Happy Ramblers – D7 Youth Pts.-October 30-31, 2004 – By Jim Bull . . . . 12-13
Well everybody, this is it. Through rain, snow, sleet and hail, race coverage has continued to come your way via MRA. It’s been a great year, we had a little rain, but none of the other nasty stuff the postman has to deal with year after year. We’ve been to 51 events as of print date and we would like to thank each and every one of you that made those events so successful. Thanks to all of you we continue to cover the great racing action here in our region. But like all other good things, it has come to an end. This will be the last issue for 2004. Don’t despair though; we will be back in February ready to kick off another thrilling season of race coverage right here in your neck of the woods. There are a lot of exciting things on tap for next season. We have the new Mason Dixon Riders Association forming that everyone should take a look at. We have a major sponsor coming in with some great giveaways for our Hotshot columns. We will be adding more color pages to MRA, and thanks to Rossini Racing Products and MSR Racing we have a hum dinger of a subscription promotion to offer you. Trust me when I say - 2005 is gonna rock. I’d like to ask everybody to consider taking a look at our subscription promotion that is going on over the winter (see inside front cover). Although we offer complimentary copies at the track, your paid subscription to MRA can go a long way. It allows us to attract more advertisers, which allows for more race coverage, which means you just might be in the next issue. That means for one that you are very cool and two, it may help you attract more sponsors. Then here’s the bonus, you just might win all that great stuff that RRP/ Cycle Stuff is giving away. In closing I’d like to wish everyone the best of Holidays and I would like to invite everyone back for the New Year. Thanks for your support and we look forward to representing you in the coming years.

HOLESHOT HOTSHOT Rider:
Sam Sheckells Event: Happy Ramblers MX Hometown: Perry Hall, MD Age: 8 yrs. Ride: KTM 50 District#: 4 Experience: 4 Years Racing Class: 50 Stock 7-8 50 Oil 4-8 Hobbies: Soccer, RC Car Racing Sponsors: Stonewall Cycles “Thanks Mr. Tony”, Sheckells & Sons Construction, Liquid Performance, Vortex, Simpson GS3, Decal Works, EVS Sports, Regina, Dunlop, Scott USA, Doublin Gap “Thanks Mr. Rod and Mr. Jeff”. MRA would like to feature Sam Sheckells as this months Holeshot Hotshot. We caught up with Sam at the Happy Ramblers Motorcycle Club last month during the D7 Youth Points Race. Sam has been shooting for the Hotshot column for quite a while now and he was determined on this weekend to get the job done. Sam races his Stonewall Cycles KTM’s in two classes, both oil injected and stock and he always does a great job. In the first moto of the Oil Injected class Sam was right there in front in a dead heat for the holeshot. Talking to Sam between motos he seemed pretty determined to get the job done in the second race. When the gate dropped, Sam was on the gas hard and he never let off, he took the inside line and came out of the first corner in first place leaving no doubt as to who the Holeshot Hotshot for the day really was. Moments later Sam cross rutted and got slammed head first to the ground, he was unable to continue the rest of the race but he had earned his Holeshot award. Sam is doing fine and you can catch up with him at most of the local races. Way to go Sam, and watch out next month, who knows you just might be the next MRA Holeshot
HOTSHOT Event: BP State/D-6/ GNCC Hare Scramble Series Rider:
Austin Findley
Hometown: New Providence, PA Age: 9 yrs. Race #: 10 Experience: Racing 2 years Class: 51-70cc Production Quad 6-11 Hobbies: Football, PS2 Sponsors: Hetrick Racing, Kimmets Extreme Sports, Powerline ATV, MSR / Answer, Motorcycle Racing Action. MRA would like to feature Austin Findley as this months Hare Scramble Hotshot. Austin has been racing locally in the youth quad divisions and has done quite well for himself. Last year in just his first year of competition Austin was able to finish a strong second in both the D6 and PA State Hare Scramble Series in the 50cc division. In 2004 Austin bumped up to the more competitive 70cc class where the machines are a lot faster as well as the racers riding them. Austin has been very successful this year claiming the third place crown again in both series. Austin’s biggest accomplishment to date came only weeks ago at the Ironman GNCC in Crawfordsville, Indiana. This was the first time ever that youth ATV classes had been run at a GNCC event and young Austin Findley and his family made the 12 hour trek to compete in the most famous off rode series that this nation has to offer. The move was a good one; Austin won his class in Indiana completing 12 laps in the hour long event. The second place finisher completed 11 and all others in the class could only manage 6 laps or less on the grueling GNCC course. Wow, now that’s a hotshot. Next year the promoters of the GNCC Series are planning a full schedule of racing for youth classes and the Findley Family plans on being there. Austin will again compete in the local series and my bet is that this kid has a great racing future ahead of him. Oh, by the way, Austin was also named this years, Smith Roll Offs Rider of the Year at the recent BP Promotions PA State Hare Scramble Banquet. Watch out next month, you just may be the next MRA Hare Scramble Hotshot. MRAdiscounts available. ECEA &Jim D-6Bull Racer

Reese Firestone of Pro Action Suspension presents Krista Lepter with the best costume Trophy. Krista piloted her rocket ship to a successful landing in 8th Place.
October 31st, Halloween day, the day of ghouls and goblins was a day for some great racing and fun at The Landing MX. The day began early as the first day of daylight savings time but the staff at The Landing MX was ready. On the line by 9:00 for the first moto was the 65 7-9 class which was won by Colin Carroll with the overall going to Cody Meekins for the Halloween win. There was a lot of action with some great racing between local favorites Gregg Duffy and Chad Dowling. Danielle Greig took a commanding 1-1 win in the Womens class. Another local favorite Michael Tommy Mudgett takes Anderson showed blistering speed and took the the wins in the 85 A 12-15 and SuperMini overall wins in the 65 10-11 class as well as the Divisions. 85A 9-11 with 1-1s in both classes. Reese Firestone of Pro-Action Suspension had a nice big trophy for the best Halloween Costume which was won by Krista Lepter the “Rocket Girl”. There was trick or treating in the pits, candy and ice cream for all by Edys Grand Ice Cream. The best part of the day was that not one moto was cut short and the day was over at 4:45. That’s right everyone made it home in time to trick-or-treat that night. A great day of racing, great memories, and great help. Thanks to every one for the 2004 season and have happy and safe holidays to come. See you all next year. Danielle Greig(38) leads Tiana Alfano(77) in Womens action. Greig goes on for the win.

Halloween weekend at Happy Ramblers 2004. Trick or treating, a weenie roast by the bon fire and 4 Foot Trophies sponsored by Motorcycle Racing Action. What more could a racer ask for ? Great riding weather and lots of competition, you had that too. And yes, Willy and Garret Toth going head to head in three classes. What a show for the crowd and what fun for two brothers to go out and finally compete against each other on the full size bikes. Last year it was Willys turn to loose the minis, and just a few weeks ago, Garret Toth moves off the 85cc machines 12 year old Garret left and goes 1-2 to win the SchoolBoy them behind as well. Both Division. Garret also took a 2nd in 4 AMS Racer Aqil Sharif (52A) Stroke and Unlimited. are now competing on grabs a Top 10 Finish in the 125 and 250cc machines. College Boy Division. Both are determined to beat each other and this weekend at Happy Ramblers both ended up on the top of the podium. Garret took the win in the first moto of the School Boy Division with Willy ending up in third. In moto number two, Garret grabbed the holeshot and led for the first lap, Willy was able to make the pass at the end of lap 1 but Garret got him right back going thru the whoops. Willy finally got by and held the lead but Garrets 1-2 score was good for first overall. The American Suzuki riding Toth brothers went at it again in both the Unlimited and Four stroke divisions with Willy taking first in both classes with Garret grabbing the second Willy Toth battled with his younger place honors. I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a brother Garret in three divisions whole lot of exciting racing action in the years to come, stay today – The result: Willy-Two Wins Garret - 1 Win tuned for all the action right here. This event was a D7 youth points race and the turn out was just awesome, the 51cc 7-8 division had 22 riders in the field with over 30 riders signing up in the 65cc 7-9 group. If this is any indicator of the future of motocross racing in our neck of the woods I believe we are all in for a treat in the years to come. You can check out photos from todays event at www.mcracingaction.com and for complete event results check out www.happyramblers.com .

AMA Congress approves new ATV racing rules. November 2, 2004 – Four-stroke ATVs in 90cc racing classes will be allowed to have displacements as high as 125cc beginning in 2005 under a new rule approved recently by the AMA Congress. Motorcycle classes have allowed for this bump in displacement for some time. Under other new rules: * Engines won’t be allowed to be downsized to qualify for the 200cc twostroke/300cc four-stroke Youth Production class. For example, you can’t take a 250R and downsize it to 200cc and run it in this class. * In motocross, each ATV must have an individual gate˜no sharing of a single gate. Apparently at some tracks, youth ATVs racers would share a single gate. If one ATV jumped the start, it would hold up both racers and not just the rider that jumped. * The definition of Production ATVs has been clarified. Under the rule about stock frames, Congress has added the following: “Only bolt-on components allowed.” * The rule that referred to “suspension geometry” has changed a little for clarity also. It now reads: “ATV OEM frames in the stock and production classes may have material added for strength. These changes shall not affect frame geometry.” The word suspension has been deleted. If you have any questions about any of these rule changes, please contact ATVA Director Doug Morris at (614) 856-1900, ext. 1337.

Doublin Gap Family Fun Day and Picnic/race October 23-24, 2004
Some of us may consider slowing down with winter approaching, but not so at Doublin Gap. On Saturday, track owners Rod and Jeff Yentzer held a rider appreciation day followed by a track points banquet
Racers wait for their turn to practice on Sat. at Doublin Gaps’ Family Fun day & Picnic ! If you haven’t been a part of their track points series you have been missing out. Everyone enjoyed a catered dinner under a large outdoor tent, after that everyone took their ticket stubs to a prize table to pick up a free gift. Once all of the people settled back into their seats they gave out awards and jackets to class winners. Then all 23 riders who had perfect attendance this year were allowed to pick additional prizes from gear bags to bike stands and even supercross tickets. Special thanks to the Yentzers and their unrivaled commitment to us the racer !! Sunday morning brought us a new season of track points racing and some damp chilly weather, but the track turned out perfect. Suzuki / PR2 Racings and National 85cc Champion Nico Izzi was on hand to give the crowd a thrill, and that and more he did. Nico won 6 motos on the day dominating the 85cc 12-13 and the super mini divisions. In the School Boy class he was unable to grab the holeshot against the larger 250cc four stroke machines but Nico, determined on his 105cc PR2 machine whittled away at the competition until he had gained the top spot in both motos. Everyone on hand seemed
PR2 Racings - Nico Izzi came to town and gave everyone a show. Nico won 3 Classes – 85(12-13), Supermini and School Boy!
Class Champions were awarded Jackets for their winning efforts.

B, C, Y, Womens Points Race – October 10, 2004 By Kevin Sheckells Sunny skies and perfect track conditions greeted the riders and spectators on this race weekend. The Tomahawk Staff were ready for a better turnout and if you didn’t make it, or you haven’t been to Tomahawk yet, you really are missing out. The Quad riders had a good turnout and they put on a really good show. In 50cc 4-6 action, Bailey Cox continued his winning ways while in the 50 7-8 group, his brother Austin battled hard with the always fast, Jake Runkles, but had to settle for a second overall. Dakota Harris and Adam Dailey put on a great set of motos in oil injected action, Sheckells swapped scores with Dailey to take the overall. Ryan Shifflett took the Supermini and 85cc 14-15 honors, with Brandon Seibold A.K.A. “Shaggy” grabbing the Junior Mini Win. In 65cc action, Aaron Houser claimed the 10-11 win with Kelly Snider sweeping the 7-9 group. Houser was also your victor in 85cc 7-11 race action. The race schedule is wrapping up here at Tomahawk for the 2004 season, but things are just starting to get good. Tomahawk MX will be participating in the MDRA Race Series for 2005, so make sure you get signed up and head on down to Tomahawk for some great racing action. Tomahawk is located right off Route 81 only 35 minutes from PA and 25 minutes from Hagerstown and you can check them out on the world wide web at www.tomahawkmx.com

2004 AMA District Six Expert Champion
Clint Johnson #924
Name: Clint Johnson Event: D6 Championship Series Hometown: Red Lion, PA Age: 25 years Ride: RM 250 / RMZ 250 District #: 924 Experience: Racing 11 Years Classes: 125 A / 250 A Sponsors: Action Motorsports, Triangle Automotive, Thor,
FMF, Keeney Motosports, LA Sleeve, Pro X, Twin Air, Cycra, ASV, Bendix, Pro Taper, M2R, E x c e l , M o t o r e x , DeCal Works, Scott USA, RK Chain, Vortex, 661, Draper Tools, Bastard on Wheels, N Style. MRA would like to congratulate Clint Johnson for winning the D6 Class Championships in both the 125 Expert and 250 Expert Divisions for the year 2004. MRA caught up with Clint at the last D6 Points Race of the year at ATCO MX. Clint had the 250 championship sewn up coming into this event but the 125 title was still on the line. Clint has battled with long time D6 veteran Barry Carsten all year long in both divisions with Barry only a few points back coming into this race. Due to a low rider turnout (which can determine the points spread) Clint had only to take a second on the day to retain the points lead ahead of Carsten for the class championship. And that’s exactly what he did, Clint rode A few of Clint’s Sponsors. fast but smart at Atco, he settled in behind Carsten and finished the day in second place winning the crown in the 125 A division as well. These championships have been a long time coming for Clint, he has been a consistent rider over the years but has had his share of struggles as well. Clint reached expert status in the spring of 1999 and went on to win the 125 title that year. He spent the next year or so competing around the district and in the spring of 2002 Clint raced the Wilkes-Barre arenacross on a Saturday night then headed to round # 1 of the North East Classic at Doublin Gap the next day. In his first moto of the day there was a huge pile up in the first corner, Clint got caught up in that and suffered severe burns on his upper arm. It seems his arm got hung up under a bike with the throttle stuck wide open and it sat there and rotated on his upper arm causing the injury. Clint headed off to the hospital and the complications began, surgery had to be done on his lower arm to reduce pressure that built up inside and the long recovery began. Months later when he finally crawled back on his pit bike he could barely hold on for 5 minutes. Clint was off his race bike for 7-8 months, then the rehab began and only 2 races were run at the end of 2002. In 2003, last year Clint decided to go for it all, he trained and rode and hit some Nationals. He qualified and went to Loretta Lynns; he thought it might be his last big hurrah !! So he wanted to do it all. Fast forward to the present, Clint has a solid bike sponsor in Action Motorsports and he’s teamed up with another major sponsor, Triangle Automotive in Dallastown, PA. He’s your District 6 Champion in both expert divisions and its full steam ahead for Clint at Doublin Gap
Clint at Sleepy Hollow For Immediate Release – October 28, 2004
MX Sports Announces 125cc Two-Stroke Only Format for Schoolboy Classes at Loretta Lynn’s 250cc “F” four-strokes no longer legal for 12-15-year-old youth group Morgantown, WV – MX Sports, producers of the Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, will change the structure of the 125cc Schoolboy (12-15) class for 2005. The class will now only be eligible for 125cc two-stroke machines; 250cc four-strokes will no longer be allowed to compete. The rule applies to both the stock and modified divisions of the 125cc Schoolboy (12-15) class. “Most of our minicycle riders graduate into the Schoolboy class once they’re ready for full-sized bikes, and we want to make that transition easy for them,” said MX Sports Director Tim Cotter. “We believe a 125cc motorcycle is an easier first step for a 12 to 15-year-old racer to handle.” The decision was made jointly through MX Sports and the AMA after thorough discussion. The new rule will apply in all levels of qualifying for the AMA National Championship. The 250cc four-strokes will also not be legal to qualify in the Schoolboy classes at the Area and Regional qualifiers. The 250cc four-strokes will, however, remain legal in all other 125 classes at the National Championships, including 125 A, B and C divisions. The AMA Air Nautiques Amateur National Motocross Championships presented by Amsoil is the world’s largest amateur motocross race. This year over 20,000 entries attempted to qualify in 33 classes for the event, which took place on August 2-7, 2004, at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. Winning an AMA Amateur National Championship is considered the launch pad to a lucrative pro motocross career. Sponsors include Air Nautiques, Amsoil, Maxxis, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM, Cobra, Fox, FMF, Gatorade, Parts Unlimited, Scott, Alpinestars, Boyesen, CTi, DC Shoes, Kicker, Ogio, Liquid Performance, Wiseco, Moto Tees and EK Chain.

ATCO MX
D6 Points race – November 13, 2004 The final round of the D6 Championship Points Series was hosted by the Atco MX Park in Atco, NJ. It was a brisk fall day and several championships would be decided at the outcome of today’s motos. In the 125 Expert division two points separated the leaders coming into today’s event. Two long time veterans of the sport, Barry Carsten and Clint Johnson were leading the point standings and the results would determine who the 04 champ would be. Johnson only needed to finish in the second place position to retain his points lead and win the 125 A crown, and that’s exactly what he did. Johnson settled in behind Carsten and rode a smart race and walked away from Atco with both the 125 and 250 Expert Championships. Another championship decided today would be in the 250 C class. 16 year old Gary Gallagher Jr. riding for East Coast MX has been consistent all year and has been running at the top of the class. His challenger, Adam Blessing who has just moved up to the 250 division got a late start on the Championship Series coming off the minis part way into the season. Gallagher being solid all year only had to finish in the top five to retain his championship, and that’s what Gary did. Like Johnson, he rode a smart race and went home champ. Talking to Gary after the race, he was fired up and very proud to be District 6 Champion. In youth quad action, Atco again would be the determining factor in the Championship Series. There has been a fierce battle all season long between Anthony Burke and Quinton Barto, this race would determine the winner. The decision would come down to the final moto, Barto took the win over Burke in the first moto but Burke was able to rebound to win moto number two and win the championship by a mere two points. Blue Diamond MX Story & Photos By Ed Fratoni MotoXstation.com
The Delmarva Series Finally Blue Diamond Park hosted the final round of the Delmarva MX Series on November 7, 2004 under sunny skies and summer like temperatures. The final race brought out many racers to contest their respective classes and hopefully go away with the championship trophy. Mike McMillan was on hand high atop his new perch, the new tower...to bring everyone the race action play by play. Several class championships would be decided with the outcome of the two moto format. The Vet C class featuring James Jacobs, Tim Desombre and Reggie Ford was just one class that would decide the Series champion at day’s end. The trio mixed it up in the first moto of the day looking for the top position that would put one rider in the championship seat. The holeshot went to Yamaha pilot Arnell Bell who placed 13th for the day with a 23-4 showing and finished the series in a distant 34th position. Reggie Ford #839 won the war but lost the battle. He won the race with a 2-1 showing on his Yamaha but finished the Delmarva series in 3rd with 206 points. James Desombre record on the day with a 3-2 kept the overall series out of arms reach of Ford as Desombre inched past Ford with 208 points to squeak into 2nd place in the Championship. The clear winner of the Series was James Jacobs who went 1-3 on the day and claimed victory in the Championship with 214 points. Worth noting on the day was the presence of Jason Lawrence who lost the holeshot in the 4 stroke class to Chad Wages who led for a half lap before the three time Amatuer National Champion cruised to victory. Young Mike Anderson #531 Kawasaki rider came out strong in
05’s Arriving Daily
his first moto in the Junior Mini, opening an 18 second lead in the first lap. He had a bad start in the second moto but worked through the pack to sweep the class with a 1-1. The best race of the day was the 85cc A class with the 9-11 & 12-15 class sharing the same gate. Supermini winner vs. Juniormini winner, going at it on the 1.5 mile course with both riders leading their respective class, but a match made for spectating! The battle of the A’s, 85cc A, Adams vs. Anderson. The two racers exchanged leads as frequent as each jump, pushing their limits for the thrill of racing and neither pulling away more than a wheel length apart in the turns. Anderson went down hard on the back tabletop after what appeared to be a wheel touch coming off the second tabletop and not regaining full control. The young Anderson rebounded as only a determind champion could within seconds he regrouped his organs and finished the race not giving up a postion. Mike Anderson claimed the Delmarva Championship in the 85cc A 9-11, Junior Mini 7-11 and 65cc 10-11 classes. Joel Adams finished the series with a championship in the 85cc A 12-15 and the Supermini classes. The 250C class was won by Honda rider Danny Woodward #4W after getting the holeshot and falling after the first turn. Woodward started in last but managed to regroup and finish 1-1 for the day. Delaware native, Mark Alfano, the #99 Yamaha rider was having a good day with a 4th in the 125c first moto brfore going down in the 250C class race. Mark end’od not once but twice never fully recovering from the first fall, only seconds prior. Never regaining his equilibrium, Mark aired it out over another jump and landed front wheel first into a face of another
jump, bending his Pro Taper’s and leaving Mark to be carted off via the ambulance. Alfano finishes the Delmarva Series with a 6th place in the 250C and a 4th in the
