BCTRA Mid-Atlantic Series - Delta, PA - May 8, 2010 By Ryan Henderson - www.RHDesigns95s.smugmug.com

“Dustin Healey Untouchable at Delta” Saturday, May 8, was the opening round of the Baltimore County Trail Riders Association’s Mid-Atlantic Series. The day started out with an open practice and then led into the races. Melissa Hildebrand was awarded the BCTRA Scholarship Award. Money was raised at the local indoor races held in Timonium to help support and up and coming student. Applicants filled out forms with personal information that would help decide who would benefit most from the scholarship fund. Melissa was selected because she stood out and is an honorable

student and a promising young lady. The first race of the night was the veterans in the 40+ class. Don Mullen Sr. was the first off the line. His brother, Scott Mullen #21, was toward the front of the pack when he went down coming out of turn two. Ken Haldeman #27 had nowhere to go and ran into the fallen Mullen. The race was stopped to check on Scott. He was a little slow getting up, but once he was back on the bike he was good to go. BCTRA president and D7 dirttrack representative Brett Friedel pulled the holeshot on his #3 Kawasaki. Ray Jenkins #25 was in third followed by Don Mullen, Scott Mullen, and Haldeman. Jenkins made several attempts to get underneath Friedel, but just couldn’t make it work. Friedel went on to take the win followed by Jenkins, both Mullens brothers, and then Haldeman. Second up were the 50cc 4-8 year old chain driven class. Jake Gast #3 pulled the holeshot followed by Ethan Stroh #10 and Jonathan Price #71. Gast held the lead for four laps before Stroh battled and got by. The two fought back and forth, and then Gast took the lead for the last time. He pulled away with the win followed by

Stroh and Price. Krone returned to the track for the 50cc 7-8 class. He pulled the holeshot ahead of Gast, Dustin Otto #5, Trever Williams #25, and Robert Wheatley #111. Gast was able to get under Krone between one and two, but then Krone took the lead back before turn three. Otto stuck his front wheel in and worked on trying to get by the two leaders. Williams stuck a wheel under Otto, trying to capitalize on the battle going on in front. Gast pulled up along Krone in the last couple of laps. Coming out of turn four on the last lap, Krone slipped and almost lost the lead. Krone went on to take the win followed by Gast, Otto, Williams, and Wheatley. The 30+ class entered the track. Perry Phillips #18 jumped out front first ahead of Rich Mellinger #86, Albert Cook #22, Jack Stedding #1, Craig Tomison #11, and Dillon Cava #86a. Mellinger tagged Phillips but couldn’t get around him. Cava moved into the third spot and began to pull away from Cook. Phillips ended up beating Mellinger to the line followed by Cava, Cook, Stedding, and Tomison. Matt Trout #16a leapt out front in the 125cc class ahead of Joe Dragunas #6 and Colton Smith #1. Coming out of turn four, Sean Simmons #61 slid out on the inside of the first lap. Smith stuck a wheel in under Trout and wiped out coming out of turn two, lap two. Trout pulled ahead to a large

lead followed by Dragunas, Jason Cole #47c, Jeff Standiford #56, Simmons, and Smith. The 65cc class lined up with #16 Nathan Reichert on the pole next to #92 Brandon Price, #71 Georgie Price, #14 Chase Smith, and #13 Brennan Beach. Reichert grabbed the early lead followed by Smith. B. Price slipped underneath Smith going into turn three, taking over second. Chris Thomas #49 had a battle going with G. Price for the fourth spot. Halfway through the race Trever Williams #25 took a spill coming out of turn two. Two laps later lil’ Zack Kolsovsky

Don Mullen Sr. (#71) won a hard-fought battle against Richard Foard (#92g) in the over 50 class.

#66 spun out coming out of two. B. Price battled Reichert all the way up until Reichert got the checkers. B. Price had to settle for second followed by Smith, Thomas, G Price, Beach, Kolsovsky, Melanie Siegel #31, and Williams. Ethan Stroh #10 returned to the track to do battle with Nicholas Krone #7, Logan McGrane #19, and Robert Wheatley #111. Krone pulled the holeshot and ran away win the 50cc shaft driven class. Wheatley finished in the second spot followed by McGrane and then Stroh. The 250 b class was a toss-up between the #14 of Joey Alexander and the #1 of Colton Smith. Both boys can ride the wheels off the bike and push it to the limits. After already taking the heat win, Alexander pulled the holeshot from the pole position in the main. Smith was right behind him followed by the pack. Becca Zafia #16 held third followed by Darren Phillips #3 and then his brother, #22 Brian Nuse. Samantha Bergman #95 worked her way up to sixth after passing #88s Kade Keily and #38 Anthony Crabbe. Craig Tomison #11 and Jesse Bills #9 fought behind the others. With three laps to go, Smith got underneath Alexander and took the lead in turn one. Alexander grew frantic and almost wiped out coming into turn one on the next lap. Smith was able to hold him off and take the win. Phillips was all over the back of Zafia and followed her through lapped traffic. Bergman was all over the back of Nuse and working on a move that never came. Smith took the win followed by Alexander, Zafia, Phillips, Nuse, Bergman, Keily, Crabbe, Tomison, and Bills. Most of the bunch returned to the track for the 250 Sportsman class, where we would see the best battle of the night. Colton Smith sat on the pole next to Joey Alexander, the #86 of Rich Mellinger, and then #95 Samantha Bergman. Smith and Alexander were the first two off the line, and they battled for a lap or so before contact. Smith went down going into turn three giving Alexander the lead and Mellinger second. On the next lap, Alexander went way wide coming out of turn four leaving the door open for Mellinger. Mellinger took the lead and

held Alexander off. Alexander tried everything on the outside, but couldn’t make the pass. With two laps to go, Alexander drove it in underneath of Mellinger going into turn three and took over the lead. Alexander took the win followed by Mellinger, Darren Phillips #3, Bergman, Brandon Taylor #22, and Smith. Cameron Smith #15 lined up on the pole in the 85cc 7-11 class next to Nathan Reichert #16, Dalton Gauthier #14g, Kenneth Kolsovsky #67, Brandon Price #92, and Georgie Price #71. Gauthier took the lead from the outside going into turn one. Smith was charging in second followed by Reichert, Price, and Kolsovsky. Price battled his way past Reichert but couldn’t shake him. Smith took the high line trying to get Gauthier but couldn’t gain enough ground for the lead. Gauthier went on to take the checkers followed by Smith, Price, Reichert, Kyle McGrane #99, Kolsovsky, Chase Smith #14, Georgie Price #71, and Allan Fogle #36. The older generation hit the track for the 50+ class. Don Mullen Sr. #71 has been the favorite lately and taking home all the glory. Richard Foard #92g made Mullen work for every second on the track. Foard looked like Mullen’s shadow, sitting beside him for most of the race. Ronnie Pfahler #44 was running in third until he clipped the back of Foard and high sided in turn three. Clifford Diem #94 maintained the third spot for the rest of the race. Mullen took home the win

in the Open B class. Anthony Crabbe #38 sat next on the line followed by Becca Zafia #16, and then Jason Cunningham #14x. Cook got off the line and walked away. Ryan Bills #9 was running in fourth and got by Zafia to take over third. Bills then continued to move up, slipping by Crabbe to take over the second spot. Kevin Bills #13 and Cunningham got past Zafia, bumping her back to sixth. Cook ended up with the win followed by R. Bills, Crabbe, Cunningham, K. Bills, Zafia, Jeff McManus #19, Michael Eney #70e, and Ronald Hoskins #60. Cook repeated a holeshot in the Adult 150 class over #32 Donnie Mullen mounted on the Triple J Racing Yamaha. Cody Bauer #64, Joe Dragunas #6, and Samantha Bergman #95 were battling behind Mullen. Coming out of turn four, Sean Simmons #61 and Jason Cole #47c took a pretty hard spill. The race was restarted, putting Dragunas on the back row for jumping. On the restart it was Cook out front yet again. Mullen was close in second followed by Bauer and Cole. Dragunas and Simmons began battling each other in the back. Mullen got around Cook at the end of lap two and pulled away. Cole was running in fourth before he stalled in turn three letting Bergman get by. Bergman then went on to pass Bauer going into turn three. Mullen took home the win followed by Cook, Bergman, Bauer, Dragunas, Cole, Melissa Hildebrand #47, Simmons, and Todd Chester #65. The Women’s class was very competitive and full of action. Becca Zafia #41 returned to the class for some more seat time. She was able to jump out front and run away for the win. Delaney Cadden #9 kept Zafia within a close distance, hoping for a chance to run alongside her. Melissa Hildebrand and Josie Stedding #1 were battling over the fourth spot, swapping back and forth positions. Stedding ended up losing the tire in the sand in turn one and two, resulting in her getting tossed off the side of the bike. So Zafia held the win followed by Cadden, Hildebrand, Stedding, and Kalynn Mcafee #26k. The final event of the evening was stretched out with extra laps for the Open Sportsman class. Donnie Mullen #71 proved once again why he was given the nickname “Mr. Shorttrack.” He jumped out front followed by Jason Isennock

#92g, and the two pulled ahead of the pack. Jake Shoemaker #55a fought his way up to third followed by Cory Strickler #37a in fourth. Johnny Long #36 was able to hold fifth, fighting with Jonathan Jordan #29 and Joe Gathercole #75a. Mullen pulled away for the victory followed by Isennock, Shoemaker, Strickler, Long, Gathercole, and Jordan. All in all, it was a great night of racing and lots of fun. We need to thank the BCTRA for the wonderful job that they did. Can’t wait for some more of their races. For future activity and next year’s schedule, check out www.BCTRA.com. Gratz Fairgrounds 1/2 Mile Delta, PA - May 15, 2010 By Ryan Henderson - www.RHDesigns95s.smugmug.com

Dirt track has returned to the Gratz Fairgrounds after almost half a century. Back in the 1970s, riders like Tony Distefano tested their abilities on the cushioned half-mile horse track. After a long hiatus, we’re back thanks to Daryl Baer and the fairgrounds. The track was smooth as can be, and its only flaw was the need to be watered after every two races on the track. Mike Koppenhaver took more laps around the track in the water truck than any of the bikes. The day shaped up to a wonderful event with tons of action and tight racing. The sun rose in the morning while the horses were being run on the track, and the sun had set just after the bikes left. The awards were specially designed to incorporate a photo of the ’71 racetrack and currently injured rider Tyler Haas. We wish him the best in his recovery. The Bonneville Performance Triumph team and Waters Autobody Racing team showed up for the Open Twins class. Jeremy Higgins #82b was mounted on the KTM that pulled the holeshot in the heat race over the field. Jason Isennock #30 quickly caught Higgins and gave him a run for his money. They swapped the lead back and forth until Higgins made the final pass coming out of turn four. Higgins repeated the holeshot in the main from the bottom of the track. Isennock was right there again and fighting for the lead before he ran into bike trouble down in turns one and two. Higgins was able to go on and take the checkers in his first Twins win while riding for Waters Autobody. Shawn Baer #32 was able to take home second place on his Bonneville Triumph followed by his younger brother, Evan Baer #64a. Isennock was able to get the bike back up and running for a fourth-place finish followed by Neil Dancho #58. Chris Klinefelter #1 never made it to the line because of brake issues. The Expert classes were stacked with all the regular local fast guys plus a lot of quick ones from farther states. No matter where they were from, Shawn Baer was the man to beat. Baer rides his butt off on these loose tracks and just seems to make it work. He was able to run high and low when needed and still got around the track faster than anyone. In the Open A he was able to get the holeshot ahead of Jason Isennock on #47, Johnny Long #36a, Dalton Winkler #35a, Tommy McGrane #99a, then Brody Miller #71. Baer and Isennock began to pull away from the rest of the pack. Jordan Harris #17a made his way past rider after rider, ending up in the top five. McGrane ended up with his hands full battling with Cory Strickler #37a and Donnie Mullen #56. Strickler got out in front of the other two for a while before dropping back. Mullen eventually got past McGrane and held the position. Baer went

on to take the win followed by Isennock, Long, Winkler, Harris, Miller, Mullen, McGrane, Brad Hazel #41b, and then Strickler for the top ten. Baer got off the line first in the Sportsman class followed by McGrane, Rich Heverly #42a, and Isennock. Isennock kept trying to dive under Heverly in turn one, but just couldn’t get the drive. Eventually he got by both Heverly and McGrane to take over second. Harris followed Isennock through then passed Isennock just after the pass on McGrane. Mullen went on to pass Tim Eades #72 and take over the sixth spot while the others battled. Heverly took over the fourth spot, passing McGrane. Baer checked out for the win followed by Harris, Jeremy Higgins (#82b) had his hands full with Jason Isennock (#30) in the Open Twins class. Higgins went on to take the win after Isennock ran into engine troubles.

Austin Luczak #10b was able to finish in the second spot followed by Becca Zafia #16, Matt Zacher #100, Jason Cunningham #14x, Richard Pflanders #83, Jeremiah Tyerar #23, and Shain Bourassa #19 rounding out the top eight. Wells returned to the track for the Sportsman A/B where he was third off the line behind Ryan Connelly #57 and Luczak. By the exit of turn two, Wells had taken the lead away Tyler Tudor (#50f) beats Roy Miller (#56) by less than a wheel at Gratz Fairgrounds on May 15th, 2010.

Isennock, Heverly, McGrane, Mullen, Eades, Jake Shoemaker #55a, Strickler, and Travis Diem #49a rounding out the top ten. Kelly Winters #126 came out to battle the boys in the 4-wheel Expert class. Dan Robinson #173, father of national #44 Brandon Robinson, battled towards the back of the heat race. In the main he was able to get out front and take home the win. Winters was able to come back from a third-place finish in the heat to take second in the main. Tracy Vogelsong #23 finished in the third spot followed by James Hamuller #24 and John Winsett #47. Brandon Bailey #11 ended up taking home the win in the 4-wheel Amateur class. The rivalry between Douglas Cook #78 and Damon Ream #17 continued for another day. Cook was able to hold Ream off in the 50cc Chain Class. Cook pulled the holeshot in the 50cc Senior class and checked out. Ream was running in second with his hands full, battling with Trevor Williams #25. Williams was catching Ream in the turns but couldn’t keep up in the straights. Cook went on to take another win followed by Ream, Williams, Braden Winsett #11, and Robert Wheatley #111. Wheatley was able to take the win in the 50cc Shaft class over Tyler Scott #70 and Bethany Bills #3. Ryan Wells #94b was able to get out front and take the win in the Open B class.

Shawn Baer (#32) took home both wins in the Open A and 450 Sportsman classes. Donnie Mullen (#71) was one of the fast competitors that Baer had to get around.

from Connelly. Luczak took over the second spot going down the backstretch. Zacher was next to make his move, taking over third on the third lap going into turn three. Wells took home the win followed by Luczak, Zacher, Connelly, and Greg Lerch #42a. Tristan Avery #4c was able to get around Cameron Smith #15 and Dalton Gauthier #14g in the 85cc 7-11 class. Avery went on to take the win followed by Smith, Gauthier, Colin Cunningham #29a, Tim Wells #94b, Brandon Price #92, Nathan Reichert #16, Ken Kolsovsky #67, and Chase Smith #14. Gauthier took the lead off the line in the Youth Sportsman class. Avery was in the second spot followed by

Dutstin Healey #45 and Wells. Healey made a pass on Avery and then Gauthier before exiting turn two. By the end of the straight, Healey had some space between him and the pack. Avery got past Gauthier and went after the lead. He ended up grabbing the lead from Healey, pulling Gauthier up behind them. Gauthier drove it in underneath Healey in turn one to take over second. Avery checked out for the win followed by Gauthier, Healey, and Wells. Healey jumped out front at the start of the 85cc 12-15 class, then immediately pulled ahead of the pack and ran away with the win. Devon Gerhart #7b was able to maintain second, and Jesse Bills #10 finished in third. Chase Smith #41 ran away with the win in the 150 Air-cooled class. The Vintage light class was led by Bruce Argelsinger #69j. Clifford Diem #94 finished in second on his Hodaka, and William Burns #79 finished in third. Joe Miller #92g launched out in front of Jim Gately #75 and Neil Dencho #58. Miller pulled away for the win followed by Gately and Dencho. Five guys battled it out in the 500 2-valve class, making it full of action. Dave Smith #77 was first off the line, followed by Mike Klopp #45a and Jim Chapman #72. Battling in the back was the #55m Mike Headman and #69 Jeff Bonema. Klopp worked hard trying to make a pass on Smith between turns three and four. The two were side by side for several laps, but Klopp just couldn’t make it stick. With one turn to go, Klopp drove it in deep and passed Smith for the win. Smith would finish a close second followed by Chapman, Headman, and Bonema. Tyler Tudor #50f was first off the line in the 250 B class. Colton Smith #32 was second off the line with Matt Zacher #100 close behind. Matt Trout #16a was mid-pack off the line before making a dash down the back straight to take over the fourth spot. Dylan Winsett #74, Samantha Bergman #95, and Daren Phillips #3 were all close together for the first few laps. Smith went on to pass Tudor in between turns one and two. Bergman got by Winsett midway through the race. Smith took home the win followed by Tudor, Zacher, Trout, Bergman, Winsett, Devon Gerhart #7b, Phillips, Shain Bourassa #19, Travis Tyerar #11, Ronnie Mercer #76, and Brian Nuse #22. Smith went on to take the win over Trout, Cody Ebersol #17, and Jeff Hughes #33 in the 125cc class. Hughes took a wild spill in turn four of the last lap rolling him down the track. Ricky Winsett #25, Roy Miller #56, and Dave Waters #18p were side by side going into turn one. By the exit of turn two, Winsett took over the lead, followed by Miller in second. Perry Phillips #18 came up and challenged Waters, taking third away. Winsett went on to take the win followed by Miller, Phillips, Waters, and Rich Pflanders. The 50+ class was full of some heavy hitters. Mike Mester #17s was the man leading

MAMA President Corner

It’s the Fourth of July, and there are plenty of fireworks going on this month. The High Point National was just concluded, and our area tried to make a presence. Congratulations to the following on their achievements: In the Lites division, Steve Roman had 32nd qualifying time and placed 32nd overall with a 31 and 31 finish. Tony Archer placed 46th fastest in his time trial, missing the main by just six spots; Brian Shuckhart was 44th, Chris Lykens 60th, Joseph Zambotti III 70th, James Palmer 71st, and Eric McKay 73rd. In the 450 class, Garrett Toth had the39th fastest qualifying time and finished 23rd overall with a 26th, 20th tally. The only other area rider to make the main was Ronnie Stewart, who qualified 36th with a 32nd finish with a 30, 29th tally. Other area riders in qualifying position were Nicholas Hayes, 56th; Ryan Zimmerman, 59th; Roy Holt, 60th; Tyler Wozney, 78th; and Daniel Corbin, 81st. A typical rainy Mt. Morris greeted the riders, but the track improved as the day went on. Next on the National scene is Round 10 of the Grand National Championship Dirt Track series to be held at the Hagerstown Half Mile on August 7th. This is the perfect opportunity to watch the fastest riders in the area compete. Our area has the best representation of professional riders than any other area. As in Daytona and for the series overall, our riders will be well represented. Jake Johnson currently leads the Grand National Twins race and sits 3rd in the GNC Singles standings. Jared Mees, who moved to Michigan and is still considered one of

our riders, sits 5th in the Twins division. Chris Carr is 6th and 12th, respectfully. Brandon Robinson holds down 20th, and Shawn Baer is 26th in the Twins division. In the GNC Singles, John Lewis is 5th, Donnie Mullen III 13th, and Rawn Wood 15th. In the Pro Singles division we have John Long III in 12th, Mike Poe 13th, Jake Shoemaker 15th, Shayna Texter 18th, Cory Texter 21st, and Dalton Winkler 40th. All of these local riders will be competing at Hagerstown. No matter what discipline you ride, this is a show you don’t want to miss. Our local riders and Tuner Mike Wheeler have stood atop the podium in the past. Let’s see whose turn it will be in 2010. Come out and support your favorite rider. I’d also like to wish all of the local riders going to Loretta Lynn’s the best of luck. It would take me two pages to list them all. The races are live on your computer if you would like to follow at www.mxsports.com. Wayne Sody

MAMA Members, It has been a great start to the season, and we have completed six races. That means it is time to check Rider Performance Value to see if you have qualified to advance to the next higher class. If you have, congratulations, as this is a great accomplishment and testament to your skill level. RPV calculation is done by adding all your points and then dividing that total by the number of races you earned points. Many of our members are aware that some tracks are going through a tough time in this economy. We are here to support our track owners as best we can. However, in light of the issues at the Landing and pending the local legislature modifying existing rules, the remaining two races at the Landing will be moved to locations to be determined. Additionally, the

race at Mountaineer is also to be evaluated to determine if or where we reschedule this race. Don’t forget we have some double points races coming up. Please go to www.mamamx. com for more information and updates. Remember, race hard and make sure you have fun and enjoy the MAMA family. Don Logan President

PA State Hare Scramble Round 5 Of The PA State Hare Scramble Series Evansville MX Park, Berwick, PA - May 23, 2010 By Maggie Platko

Brought to you by BP Promotions, the fifth round of the Pennsylvania State Hare Scramble Series was held at the Evansville MX Park in Berwick, Pennsylvania, on May 23, where the sun was shining and a light late morning mist came through to cool everything down. It was another beautiful weekend for the races as the riders and spectators started to prepare themselves for the day’s event to come. Whether it be to walk the course and become aware of what was to be expected or to simply relax and take in all of the excitement, all of the riders were going to be ready to face anything that came their way. The course at Evansville consisted of three different types of sections. The holeshot led the racers into a section of woods that was mixed with a few grassy fields, then they went out onto the motocross track where they were thrown a few different styles of jumps and a banzai hill that took them down 100 feet. A majority of the bikes played it safe and rolled over the crest of the hill, but others such as Timmy Hunter, Tyler B. Kline, and Hunter Murphy put their experience to the test and jumped the crest, clearing close to half of the hill. Experienced quad riders could have done the same as Hunter, Kline, and Murphy, but they were at a disadvantage due to the small ruts that were grooved in toward the bottom of the hill. If a quad rider were to hit one of them at the speed they were going, they could have easily lost control and been thrown off track. Though the banzai hill may be been a

little bit of an intimidation to most, that didn’t stop the riders from performing their best. Tanner Kels and Craig B. Delong have been a constant battle to each other for most of the 2010 season, exchanging between

Ultimate Series Round 4 Sleepy Hollow - May 30, 2010 By Jim Mucklin Kramer. Open C was Beck,Frey,Hernandez. Vet turnout, 35+A; this is better than fried ice cream. Barry Carsten, Jimmy Mac, Frenchie, Weindel and Eddie Anewalt, now there’s a crew they should call the “Cayenne Express” because if you get behind these guys in the first turn, you’re gonna feel the burn. In the women’s class, eight girls. I saw Shel Kastle get the holeshot, but by the time they came to spectator row, it was Yingling

MEMORIAL DAY, SOME LIKE IT HOT Heat was the word of the day. But first it was Memorial Day; many have lost sight of the true meaning of the day. If you know someone who is in the military or who has had a family member who has made the ultimate sacrifice, thank them. If you’re a new member to the district and have never been to the “Hollow,” you should check it out. I always have a great time, and it’s family-run for families. It’s really nice to see the MX done the right way. I would like to start out by thanking everyone who came out in support of the Wyatt Barto 529 Foundation (http://www. foundation529.org/ ). Your support moved John and his family. I would also like to personally thank Lowell Spangler and Justin Barcia for their contribution of riding gear for the auction. Also thanks to the support of the sponsors of the series, MGX, Gap racing, VPE, GPMX, Lebanon Valley Suzuki, Ephrata Cycle Center, Montgomeryville Cycle Center, and all the other sponsors and the track owners, without whom this would never be possible. Sorry for the rant, but it’s nice to see people “Give Back,” not with money but of their time and through example. But something changes when the gate drops. I’m standing there talking to a bunch of relaxed riders at the gate. Everything is cool till the card goes up, the focus comes on and a bomb could go off and these guys wouldn’t flinch. We all know what’s going to happen. There’s no time-out, no walking the batter; the gates go down, and someone is going to be first through the turn, and they know that whoever is beside them wants that position. There’s no overtime, the time is now, that’s the rush. The unofficial count was 524 bikes, a great turnout. Who’s here, just about everybody: Lowell Spangler is here, but so are 16 other A riders that will put a hurtin’ on ya like a bowl of Cajun crawfish and a Jalapeno milkshake. Casey Clark, Cook that’s always good, Garrett

Toth, Frankie Lettieri, and Ryan Zimmerman. Man, never mind the weather; it’s gonna be hot. Aughinbaugh, Ressler, throw in a Frenchie, Sidle, Kramer. That hot enough? No, well you ain’t gonna need any hot sauce on this one, Brajkovich and Hougentogler are in this one too. 250A was Spangler, Sidle, Kramer. Open A: Spangler, Zimmerman, Toth. Let’s scope out B, only 40 bikes. Yes, my friend, a full gate. Let me see if I can call it, see who’s at practice. Joey Peters, Kameron Page, oh yeah, wait a minute Clites, Vertucci, now it’s getting warm. There Richie Kastle and Munch. Need a little more heat? throw in a Paulie Sanfelice and Avery Brown. More? How about Yingling, Haas and a Bobby Piazza. Call it? Heck, I can’t even get the first 5. There’s a lot of guys I’ve never seen before, but I do know it’s gonna hurt in the morning. 250B was Clites, Peters, Maldet. Open B was Peters, S.Vertucci, Yingling. Look at the C, Sean Baxley looked good at Doublin, Brad Roth at Pagoda, but Beck doesn’t play, so get out of the way. Two gates around 36 Bikes. 250C was Kruger, Beck,

out front. It was Atalie Yingling, Niki Stewart and Bree Young. I didn’t miss the 50 action. Ride of the day goes out to Jordan Jarvis. She took the overall in the 50 open, 2nd in the 65c (7-11). Nice! Yeah, it was hot, but that good hot, the kind you thought about all winter. Summer’s here! And that’s the way I saw it! Jim-

Mother Nature Turns It On For The Daytona 2010 By Wayne District 13 & 7 Gold CupSody Series District 7 Gold Cup Series Virginia Motorsports Park MX - June 12-13, 2010 By Debra Meszaros - MXSportsNutrition.com VMP District 13 & 7 Gold Cup Series Results The weather made for an interesting weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park MX for the June 12 & 13th District 13 and 7 Gold Cup Series races. If temperatures nearing 100 didn’t get you, the nearly 1 1/2 inches of rain going into Sunday might. The crew at VMP did a great job getting ready for Sunday’s motos, but Mother Nature had claimed certain sections of the track. The first round of motos proved challenging for most, as mud a foot or more in certain sections seemed to slow down the pace. It was a day of bikes stalling, engines whining and riders riding with no goggles until about the tenth race of the first moto. The Schoolboy 14-16 and Women were first to hit the mud. In the schoolboy 14-16, #442 Scott Clark on his Kawasaki got the holeshot and went on to win followed by #14 Tyler Etheridge and #101 Ryan Smith. #442 Scott Clark wins the second moto as well for a top spot finish. In the Woman’s race, the #715 of Samantha Eatmon pulled off the holeshot, went down at the beginning of lap 2 but held on to win the moto followed by #180 Amber Dominque. The second race combined the 35+ Amateur District 7, 45 + A and the 450 open B classes together. The 35+ riders took off with #54 Timothy Cranston taking the win and #113 Timothy Gately taking second. In the 45+ A class, it was holeshot winner #810 Douglas Wentzell that took the win, with #34 William Driscoll taking second. 450 Open B was #582 Tyler Coppersmith that got the holeshot and the win. #99 Riley Saunders finished second with #23 Aaron Beasley taking third. Race three of Moto 1 the mud really made things difficult for both the 10-11 and 7-9 65 cc class riders as you could hear them on the throttle trying to pull through the mud. In the 10-11’s, #726 Cameron Dovell got the holeshot and the win followed by two other KTM riders, #73 Jesse Snyder and #57 Caleb Pruett. In the 7-9 class it was #33 Chase McLaughlin looking great from

his holeshot win to the finish, just blasting through the mud and pulling away from the pack. #38 Ryan Ganoe finished second and #126 Collin Ponton third. Up fourth, the 450 Open A class. The Suzuki rider Michael McDade and his bike simply marked X just beat out #418 for the holeshot. Just after the first lap three riders go down, including #418, and that creates the opportunity for position changes. #144 Honda rider Ryan Zimmer pulls off the win followed by #454 Randall Everett and X rider Michael McDade.

Cody Rountree #141 from 450 Open C

Ryan Zimmer from 250 A class

Up next, the 450 Open C class and Vet C 30+ District 7. #113 Timothy Gately wins the Vet C. In the 450 Open C class, despite #141 Cody Rountree leading most of the race and looking strong, he finished second behind #241 Ryan White, who seemed to just continue gaining positions lap after lap. #121 Austin Puckett finished third. College boy 16-24, 35+ A and 50+ District 7 riders blasted out of the gate in the sixth race,

with College boy rider #582 Tyler Coppersmith getting the holeshot but finishing third as #454 Randall Everett finishes first with #99X Riley Saunders capturing second place. In the 35 + A class, holeshot winner #207 Todd Selleck Sr. looked strong through his #1 finish. #52 John Kernan finished second and #318 Wade Blevins third. The 50+ rider #17 Mike Farmer gets the holeshot and the win followed by #810 Douglass Wentzell and #53 Joseph Kromer. Up seventh, the 85cc riders, 9-11 and 1215. In the 9-11’s #726 Cameron Dowell takes first, #03 Colby Francis second and #126 Collin Ponton third. 12-15’s, it’s #19 Dillion Smith winning the first Moto, #996 Blake Shelton taking second and #118 Mark Adams Jr. third. Due to the muddy conditions, the 50cc class race was moved to the last race and the Unlimited Amateur B, C, & D class and Vet A 30+ District 7 riders left the gate instead. Vet A rider #52 John Kerman got the holeshot and the win. #318 Wade Blevins took second and #634 Tim Whitehair third. In the unlimited class, it was #442 Scott Clark getting another win followed by #95 Justin Richardson Gill and #377 Alex Fauteux. By the tenth race the dedicated work of the VMP crew in between motos and a little help from the sun, the track conditions started to dry out nicely. So the Super mini’s 12-16 hit the track. #215 Jeremy Davis gets the holeshot and never looks back until he came across the finish line first. Following close behind for the entire race, #59 Ben Francis finished second, and #60 Tyler Siries came out of the gate third, rode strong but finished third. With track conditions getting good, the 250 A class busted through the gate with #334 Michael McDade getting the holeshot, but it was #141 Ryan Zimmer that put in a great effort passing McDade and widening the gap with each lap to finish first. #334 McDade hung in to finish second, and #379 Johnny Wasco finished third. Schoolboy 12-16 up next with #442 Scott Clark getting his second holeshot of the day and another first place win. #215 Jeremy Davis finishing a strong second and #22 Trey
