Stay Tuned Next Month To See Who Will Be CAUGHT IN THE ACT!

Important Please Read! Happy July 4th everybody. Another Holiday with real meaning. It’s a fantastic feeling to be living in a place where we can have the freedoms and opportunities that we do here in America. Lets all celebrate our independence and take a moment to remember those that have gone ahead and those that are currently fighting to keep the U.S.A. the greatest country on the planet. Find something different in this column this month. We all have another opportunity to do good. I’m a true believer in “What comes around - goes around’, and I’d like to ask everyone to help if they can in their own special way. Wether it can be a monetary donation or a simple phone call or a card put in the mail. There are fellow riders and families out there that need our help. Due to a recent string of injuries and loss there are several raffles and fundraisers going on.

The Kyle Greenwalt Benefit Fund has been established to help pay medical bills for Kyle and to support his rehab. Donations can be sent to: Barb Savidge, 333 S. Tulpehocken St. Pine Grove, PA 17963.

Many local companies have also pulled together and they are raffling off a tricked out pit bike to help Kyle. You can purchase tickets from Mike Cepress at the track or call (610) 965 - 9865.

Ty Wallace is another local rider that has given so much to this sport over the years. Ty supports his family thru racing and working in our great sport and he could truly use your help right now. Rossini Racing Products also has a raffle offering a pit bike and lots of other cool stuff. Tickets can be purchased from any team member or by calling (908) 454 - 8800.

On Memorial Day weekend Ryan Foreman went to be with the Lord. Ryan was a fellow racer that lived to ride the sport. Cards of condolences can be sent to: The Foreman Family, RR # 1, Hesston, PA 16647.

Until next time.

J.T. Sheaffer D6 Ultimate MX Series 9 Lancaster, PA 48 King Cobra 50 / Suzuki RM 65 50 Stock (7-8) / 65cc (7-9) 5th Racing Season. Wrestling, Basketball, Football, Jr. Drag Racing. Salad Chad Reed Kimmets Extreme Sports, Carquest, Sheaffer Enterprises, CD Race Cars, PA Posse, PR2.

On tap this month find young J.T. Sheaffer. J.T. is your District 6 Ultimate MX Hotshot for the month of June. A few short years ago I was driving close to my home and I had just bought MRA from the original founder. I saw a kid on a PW50 with a number on the side flying around his back yard inside of a chain linked fenced. I was looking to meet new racers so I swung in and gave his parents a copy of MRA. They said their son had run a few races but they wanted to get more serious about it. Shortly after that I bumped into the family at one of the local D6 tracks. This time they had a KTM Pro Jr with them and the same kid I saw riding the PW in the back yard. (Imagine that) Turns out that the PW50 had been stolen from their home, which is always a drag. The good news was that they were able to go out and get the KTM J.T. had always wanted. J.T. hit the local tracks with a vengeance and was soon running toward the front of the pack. I kept a close eye on this kid that lived only a few miles from me and I new he was going to do well. The chain link fence was gone from the back yard and every now and then I would see the bike on the back of their truck, probably headed to one of the practice tracks the local racers use in our area. I asked J.T. if he remembered his first race. He said it was on his PW50 and he thought it was at the Flying Dutchmen, his dad seems to think it was at Sleepy Hollow but never the less it happened. I asked him how he did that day, his reply: terrible, I think I came in last. I also asked J.T. what his race results were like now. His answer: I’m in first place in points in the Ultimate Series in the 50 class and I’m third in points on the 65. I won over here and I won over there last week. Actually J.T. was very humble and polite but also very happy that he was doing so well. The kid can ride and he has a smile as big as Pennsylvania. He thanked me for putting him in the paper and then got down to doing what he does best, riding those motorcycles. J.T. has some great sponsors and with his very supportive family and his great riding talents I’m sure he’s going to go all the way. Jim Bull MRA

mdra series - round #4 Tomahawk MX • May 20-21, 2006 • By MRA

Round # 4 of the MDRA Series found itself in the beautiful hills of West Virginia at the Tomahawk MX Park. Once again 500 plus riders came out to chase the valuable championship points being offered by the MDRA on this dry and blustery day. The weekend started off with a Saturday practice as usual to allow the racers of the MDRA to get some extra seat time and for any newcomers a chance to get to know the track before they have to go out and compete. I’ve been traveling to Tomahawk for three seasons now and I believe the course was the best I’ve ever seen it. The promoter here continues to make changes to the track on an ongoing basis and this weekend’s event was no exception. New jumps have been added along with a new concrete starting pad and new fencing. The track is long and fast and the crew at Tomahawk worked well into the night to assure a perfectly groomed course for Sundays racing action. The morning started off with a riders meeting and the presentation of a $ 40 gas card that is given away at each round of the MDRA. Young Mark Hushon was the Round # 4 winner. Then it was off to practice and into the motos.

The 250 experts kicked off the racing at this round with Ridersville Cycles Ryan Jones and West Shore Suzuki’s Willy Toth battling tooth and nail in the first moto. Toth would run down Jones for the win in the first moto with Randall Everett grabbing the checkers in the second. Toth’s 1-2 was good for a first overall on the day. The racing was intense in most classes on this day with the Mini gates being full and the Women getting their own gate. Jessica Childs would go 1-1 for the win with Kelsey Green and Nicki Lingle finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. If you missed today’s event you’re still in luck. Tomahawk will be hosting Round # 8 of the MDRA Race Series right back here on July 23rd. They also offer open practice thru out the week in case you want to hone your skills. Check out their website at www. tomahawkmx.com for days and times and be sure to check out www.mcracingaction. com for today’s event photos.

Dominick Dreisbach grabs the 60 (7-11) B class holeshot and races to a second place finish.

West Shore Suzuki’s Willy Toth wins both 125 & 250 A. Another full gate leaves the new concrete starting pad at Tomahawk.

May 21, 2006

Senior B racing action. Jeff Hermansen (68) goes on for the win.

Matthew Shutt sweeps the 85cc (7-11) C division.

2007 Return of FIM Motocross of Nations to America Budds Creek to Hold Prestigious Event

June 10, 2006 Contact: Heartland Media & Events LLC +1 (740) 397-1647 billamick@earthlink.net MONTEVARCHI, Italy and SOUTHWICK, Massachusetts -- A long-anticipated return of the famed Motocross of Nations to the United States was confirmed today (June 10) at press conferences scheduled during the Italian round of

the 2006 World Motocross Championship Series in Montevarchi and the AMA National Motocross Series’ only event in New England. Youthstream, which promotes the World Motocross Championships on behalf of the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), confirmed that agreements are in place for the 62nd Annual Motocross of Nations to be held at Budds Creek (Maryland) Motocross Raceway on the weekend of September 21-23, 2007. This will mark just the second time that the famed event will have been held in the United States, and only its fourth appearance outside of Europe. The FIM Motocross of Nations is a competition for national teams often referred to as the olympics of motocross by fans of off-road motorcycling. The

event typically attracts 30-plus national teams, with Great Britain, Belgium and the United States the traditional powers. Those three countries have combined to win 46 of the 60 Motocross of Nations heading into the 2006 renewal at Matterley Basin near Winchester, England, this fall. America’s only previous experience hosting the Motocross of Nations came in 1987, when Team USA scored a hard-earned victory in difficult muddy conditions at New York’s Unadilla Valley Sports Center. That victory came during an unprecedented 13-year American win streak that lasted from 1981-93. “I am very pleased that we will present the 2007 Motocross of Nations at Budds Creek,” said Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo.

“It’s great to have the strong backing of the FIM and the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) at one of America’s finest motocross circuits. The friendly rivalries created by the Motocross of Nations are something really special, and we invite motocross fans from throughout the world to come to Budds Creek and cheer for their teams.” For event promoter and Budds Creek Raceway owner Jonathan Beasley, the event represents “a lifelong dream” and the biggest challenge ever for a track that has hosted numerous high-visibility events including FIM Grand Prix, AMA Nationals, AMA Amateur National Qualifiers and All-Terrain Vehicle Association Nationals. “My staff and I are thrilled to have this opportunity and determined to make the event a memorable one,” Beasley added. Budds Creek Motocross Raceway is located just 35 miles south of the nation’s capital of Washington, D.C. in rural Maryland. The Motocross of Nations will be sanctioned by the FIM with the AMA as the host federation. FIM Motocross Commission President Wolfgang Srb and AMA President Robert Rasor, who is also an FIM Vice President, expressed enthusiasm about the announcement. “I am sure that fans not only in the USA but worldwide will be happy that the world’s most prestigious motocross event will be held at Budds Creek,” Srb said. “The Motocross of Nations is the showcase of our sport and deserves to be staged on the best circuits of the world. The FIM congratulates all the partners who concluded this deal.” “The AMA is excited to help bring the Motocross of Nations back to America on the 20th anniversary of AMA Team USA’s victory in New York,” Rasor said. “Budds Creek Raceway is a proven grand prix circuit and will be an excellent venue. We look forward to welcoming teams from throughout the world to the USA in September of 2007.” Saturday’s formal announcement will conclude a process that began early in 2005 when Youthstream retained Ohio-based Heartland Media and Events to seek an American venue for the Motocross of Nations. The negotiations were coordinated by Heartland Media and Events’ Bill Amick, who previously served on the professional staff of the AMA and who since 1986 has been a member of the FIM Motocross Commission. “We announced in May of 2005 that Heartland Media and Events had been retained to begin work on this project,” said Youthstream’s Luongo. “A number of venues were consulted, but Budds Creek Raceway was our first and our favorite possibility. The close relationships among Bill Amick, Jonathan Beasley and the AMA made it possible to solve the negotiations with minimum difficulty. Now, along with the FIM we can focus on the job of making the event a great success.” “It’s a privilege to play a role in this project,” Amick said, “and we intend for the 2007 Motocross of Nations to usher in an era in which the event will occur more frequently on this side of the Atlantic. As the FIM and Youthstream move forward and motocross becomes more and more a global sport we can build upon traditional rivalries and cultivate new ones with the active involvement of all of the FIM’s Continental Unions.” A number of physical upgrades are already in progress at Budds Creek Raceway in preparation for its traditional AMA National Championship event on Father’s Day weekend and for the 2007 Motocross of Nations. ultimate mx series • round #4 Sleepy Hollow MX • May 28, 2006 • By MRA

Round # 4 of the D6 Ultimate MX Series found itself at Jere Swarr’s Sleepy Hollow MX Park in Fredericksburg, PA. This round brought factory contingency money to the table from all the major manufacturers except Yamaha. The day was also special due to the fact that there was a fundraiser / auction going on to benefit downed rider Kyle Greenwalt. Kyle was injured while practicing earlier this season and the locals have rallied to help provide financial assistance to both Kyle and his family. Dick.Sidle, owner of Lebanon Valley Cycles in Jonestown, PA stepped up to the plate and donated a very trick pit bike to be auctioned off at the intermission. The racers of D6 are just awesome and bidding during the auction was well attended. Till it was over the bike was bought by a high bidder than given back to be auctioned again. The numbers went up and in the end $3200 was raised for the family. On top of that racers donated money and cards with Sleepy Hollow matching the donations. I commend everyone that gave to the cause and if you missed it, you can still get in on the action.

There are pit bike raffles and a donation fund set up for Kyle. You can find that information on page 5 of this issue. The racing, yes that was good too. Local pro’s Damien Plotts and Ty Wallace went at it all afternoon. Gap Racing’s Alex Gaul kept sticking his front wheel in the mix to keep it interesting. But in the end it was Wallace taking the lion’s share of the winnings. Things were going well for Wallace until his last moto on his last lap of the day. Plotts and Wallace had been battling all day and in a last ditch move to sweep the day it all went bad. Wallace ended up coming off the bike and launched into the bank right before finish line doing damage to both of his legs. Wallace has been here before and I’m sure he will be back good as knew, given time. Ty will be off his feet for a while and he could probably use our help as well. Ty has given his entire life to racing and working in this sport in our area. Ty rides out of the RRP camp and they have since started a pit bike raffle as well to benefit Ty and his family. Again, this information can be found on page 5 of this issue.

I would like to thank everyone that has donated to the cause and for those that plan to do so. We have a great racing family here in District 6. It’s good to know who you’re hanging with. Also a big thanks to all of the sponsors and tracks that help make these fund raisers a success.

Fund Raiser Info on Page 5

Damien Plotts (99) and Ty Wallace (185) battled all day in the expert divisions. Please see info elsewhere in MRA on the Ty Wallace fundraiser.

ECS Honda’s Ryan Zimmerman wins both premiere amateur divisions.

Results Between Matthew Rutt (left) and Dave Sparr (right) $3200.00 was raised to benefit the Greenwalt family and their son Kyle.

Dick Sidle and Lebanon Valley Cycles donated the pit bike to be auctioned off to raise money for downed rider Kyle Greenwalt.

ATTN RACERS: I want to thank all the riders for signing my husband Pierre’s get well card. I had brought him home from Harrisburg Hospital Sat eve. He was a little upset he couldn’t be down at track. He had just had open heart surgery (6 bypasses) and wasn’t allowed, he didn’t think the show would go without him, I told him it was tough with out his help but we got through it any way. I sent riders up to visit him so he wouldn’t get bored. Thanks to all for all of your support. Karon Reasoner

I don’t know if it’s my imagination but it seems that there has been a spat of serious injuries of late, some minor, some major and some tragic. There’s no getting around the fact that we are participants in a potentially dangerous sport and that we should do everything we can to protect ourselves and those we care about.

Now I don’t want to get long winded on the subject of race gear because I’m sure everyone understands that with race gear the level of protection is directly proportional to what you pay for it. A good quality name brand helmet, boots, pants with knee/shin guards, jersey, chest protector and gloves. That in my opinion is the bare minimum. If

you choose to add a few additional things like elbow guards then more power too you (here’s a tip, wear them under a loose jersey because there is a stigma attached to elbow guards that they make you look like a beginner). It’s a shame that knee braces are as expensive as they are. I think most racers should wear them to prevent knee injuries

rather than needing them after the fact. The area of safety I wish to discuss is the motorcycle itself. Parents pay attention because it’s up to you to make sure that your son or daughter is racing on a piece of equipment that is capable of doing what is asked of it on a race track. I have seen riders trying to compete on bikes with seized suspension linkage with a total of maybe three inches of travel. I’ve said it before in other articles; the suspension linkage needs to be serviced at least once every three to four weeks and more often if you race in mud. All the money in the world spent on re-valving is worthless if the linkage it’s attached to doesn’t move. I would estimate that better than 60 % of the riders out there are racing on bone stock suspension. Now when the bike is new that’s not a bad thing, in most cases stock valving and stock fluid can do an adequate job when they are fresh, but after 20 hours running time the effectiveness of the suspension fluid has dropped considerably. The problem here is that the drop in performance is so gradual that the rider doesn’t notice and continues to expect his bike to be able to handle and perform like it did when it was new. It’s in situations like this that a rider gets injured, and lets face it young kids today are trying to emulate their heroes with big air and skimming across a set of rockers, all things that are dangerous under the best of conditions. Now add a tired suspension to the equation and the odds of something going wrong increase. It scares me to think that most parents are unaware of what their kids are trying to do on suspension fluid that is long past its expiration date. For safety sake I urge all riders and parents of young riders to educate yourselves and become aware of what is required to maintain a capable race bike. It is impossible to remove all risk from our sport but there’s no reason we can’t remove unnecessary risk from the equation. As always I welcome any questions that might help educate you on this matter, my phone # is in the ad near this article please call if you have any questions. Just ask for Al.

With so many peoples at the track racing those days, and each of us busy doing our own stuff, it’s easy to miss on a lot of nice family and interesting individual. So this is the Thompson’s, a typical passion-driven family with a “risk it all, win it all” attitude in their racing effort, who managed to keep having lots of fun and a good attitude week in and week out…. Daryn races for mom and dad, OMS-1, Fly, MotoGraphX, MRA, RRP, Scott, Rocky Mountain and family friend Nathan Jester. Like many young kids out there, Daryn life evolved around riding dirt bike, and this is what he has to say….

is it the biggest jump you ever did? Maybe... But the 3rd double at Mountaineer is probably bigger, I did it this year. Yeap, it’s big, I cased it on my 450, didn’t feel good! What about school, do you like it? No, but I love math How are your grades? B- overall. If I don’t have decent grades, I’m not allowed to race. What do you want become later in your life? A Pro Motocross racer! Then later a mechanic maybe.. I don’t know yet. I can completely pull apart my BMX and put it back together by myself. I work on all my

Who’s your competition in the series? #31 Steven Good and #151 Tyler Murphy. They’re is a lot of fast riders but not all of them followed the series. Are you buddying with them? With Tyler yes, but I don’t know Steven because is from down South. He’s pretty fast! But I get along with everybody… I’m sure, like all of us, that you hit the dirt sometime, did you had any injury in the past? Yes, I’ve broke my foot and my wrist Did you cry? Yes, it hurt a lot! Were you scared to ride again? A little… but it fade away. I rode around my house with my cast on because I was missing riding so much. Do you think you’d like to do another sport? No! Is there anything you don’t like about racing? I don’t like when they water the track too much. Too slippery… I’ve seen you hitting the Banzai at Sleepy,

friends and sisters bikes all the time! Yes, you do have 2 sisters, Shaina (9) and Shelby (13)… What are they doing when you’re racing? They help my mom score at Sleepy small track, or flag. Also Shaina is doing some Cheer Leading and Shelby play guitar. Do you get along with your sister? Yes, we are find. How much do you think your family spends a year into racing? I don’t know… a lot! Too much! Guess a number Pfiouu !!?? $900 a year? [Not a misprint] Man, you guys do get good deals!! And how did you get into riding in the first place? My uncle Jeremy, my hunt Angie and my cousin Damien [Thompson] were into it and we just followed their footprints. Well, thanks for your time Daryn, and good luck for the rest of the seasons! Osborne, who was riding a borrowed bike, tried to get Stewart back to no avail as he went on to take the win. Osborne was second and Taylor Murphy grabbed third. When the gate dropped on the second moto it was again Stewart and Osborne side by side. This time Osborne grabbed the early advantage and tried to check out on the field. Stewart tried to keep him in sight but when he went down and couldn’t restart the four-stroke Osborne took advantage and ran from the field. Jimmy McIlvaine followed Osborne for second. Dragon/Amphibian sponsored Bobby Jiminez worked his way up to third after a poor start. Osborne was the overall winner (2-1), McIlvaine was second (5-2) and Jiminez was third (4-3). Osborne plans on making a return to Raceway Park for the 30th annual Kawasaki Race of Champions this fall hoping to give the guys in green a challenge for their money.

Gluck grabs Stock Plus By Scott Lukaitis photo by Scott Lukaitis Lukaitisphoto.com ENGLISHTOWN, NJ, MAY 27 Round # 2 of the Trapani Pit Bike Series was held on Saturday evening May 27th. While many people were settling into a Memorial Day Barbeque riders were preparing themselves for a great evening of racing under the lights at the famous Raceway Park motocross track. Racer and track builder Dakota Kessler laid out another challenging course using the front section of the normal race track and part of the infield.

Results: Larry McVay wins 85 (12-13) and Supermini. Memorial Day weekend is usually spent at parades, family picnics or the beach kicking off the summer. But less than 20 miles from the sands of the Jersey Shore 400+ racers spent their Memorial Day Sunday doing what they love, racing motocross at Raceway Park. Along with the help of his track crew Mickey Kessler spent the days leading up to Sunday’s race moving tons of dirt to create challenging new obstacles for the racers to conquer. Shift/Serious Racewear sponsored Chris Osborne was making his first appearance at Raceway Park and the Charlotte North Carolina based Honda rider took a trip up with a former local racer Shawn Ulikowski to give the local Raceway Park riders a run for their money. The first 250 expert moto saw Osborne grab the holeshot ahead of Steven Hunter and RRP/MSR backed Ronnie Stewart. Freehold Honda/Trapani’s backed Joel Dengler joined the action and was quickly on the rear tire of Stewart. Dengler got by Stewart in the bowl turn in the back of the track and set off after Osborne. The pursuit was to no avail as Osborne took the moto win followed by Dengler and Stewart in third. The second moto again saw Osborne grab the early lead only to be hounded again by Dengler. This time Mt. Holly Suzuki backed Jason Harper joined the chase. Harper, who was making his return after an early season injury, chased the Honda duo but couldn’t catch them and had to settle for third. Osborne took the overall (1-1), Dengler was second (2-2) and Harper was third (5-3). In 125 class action Osborne again grabbed the holeshot ahead of Stewart and Wheels Motorsports Honda Rider Jimmy McIlvaine. Stewart and Osborne set off to do battle and they were all over each other for the lead with Stewart grabbing the early advantage.

Damian Krause wins the 50cc Youth Dash for Cash. In 12-15 year old 50cc stock plus racing a battle raged on throughout the entire moto between Joe Gluck and Matt Burnett. The Honda duo changed the lead several times in the moto and just when it looked like Gluck would take the win with a last lap pass, Burnett held the gas on and jumped past Gluck at the finish to take the moto win. The second moto again featured close racing with Gluck this time taking the moto win. His 2-1 finishes were good enough for his first ever overall victory. Freehold Honda sponsored Chris Duymich was second overall (3-3) and Burnett was third overall (1-5). Dakota Kessler was again a dominant racer in the 16+ classes winning both 16+ 50cc Modified motos the second 16+ 50cc Open moto and the 16+ 50cc dash for cash. The Pitster/Dragon/KPS backed rider has been the class of the field so far this season and will certainly be the rider to watch as the series heats up this summer. Round # 3 will take place on June 24th.

When riders showed up for Round # 2 of the Freehold Honda Peewee Mx and Youth Quad series they were greeted with warm sunshine. After the torrential rains of Round # 1 it was nice to put the umbrellas away. This growing series that is for riders as young as four and as old as eight runs on the famous Raceway Park track. The Dakota Kessler prepared track was challenging and fun and the low pressure family atmosphere is present with the emphasis being placed on fun. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t great racing. KTM rider Justin Cooper was the weekend’s big winner taking victories in all six motos he entered earning the overall in the 7-8 CRF/XR/TTR, 4-8 Open 50 and 7-8 50 stock classes. The Coldspring, Harbor NY based rider could be a contender for the Supercross Lites championship in 2016 so remember his name in the future. The next round is July 8th so if your youngster is ready to give racing a try come on down.

mdra series • Round #5 Happy Ramblers MC • June 10-11, 2006 • By MRA

Sunday June 10th brought close to 600 racers to the Happy Ramblers Motorcycle Club for Round # 5 of the MDRA Race Series. The Happy Ramblers course has been re - designed this season and the turn outs have been phenomenal. This round is leading us into the mid point in the series and some great battles are starting to take place in many of the classes. As I was preparing the results from today’s event I was taking notice to some of the competitors in the different classes. In many instances on any given day any one of the top 10 racers has the ability to take the checkers. In the mini ranks, the likes of Grove, Seibold, Lunceford, Stewart, Jones and the list keeps going, geeze Walker and Sparks finished 8th and 9th respectively and these kids haul the mail. In the vet ranks, Yentzer, Pamart, Bear, Waslin and

Boser and I could go on and on. Check the results, these gates are stacked with talent and their all in the same classes. Anyhow it makes for some great racing action. Today’s event was a Yamaha contingency round in addition to the normally great payouts that the MDRA has to offer. The expert racing was hot with Jeremy Cook (back on a Honda) winning both 125 and 250 A. Not without a hard fought battle in both Darren Taughinbaugh took a short divisions but Cook worked detour into the pond. Both bike and Calvyn Beck launches his way to the his way to the front for the rider came away unscathed. 60 (7-11) C class victory. overalls in both divisions. Ted Orr from Middletown, Mount Joy, PA winning 50cc (7-8) A. Md took the win in the Senior The amateur class action is intense as A group with young Scotty Meshey from well; the 125 B motos saw 26 riders come to the gate with 18 riders in the 250 division. In the end it would be the # 77 of Zachary Lee from Nokesville, VA winning both overalls. Jim Dobbs from Carlisle, PA would get the Vet B win with Travis Worthington out of Mt Airy, MD sweeping the 85cc (7-11) B division. If you’re looking for a great series to check out, The MDRA just might have what 250 A Holeshot - Cook (360) races on you’re looking for.
