Happy 4th of July everybody. Boy, this is a big one. Our independence. We sure have taken a ride on that wave, haven’t we. Right now as we are enjoying our freedoms, there are many great Americans still fighting for our independence. I know that most of us will take that for granted and not even give it a second thought but I ask that you please take a moment, not only on the 4th, but each and every day to remember what it’s like to be free and to appreciate the young men and women that are fighting each and every day for us to remain that way. No matter, what your views, the next time you see a member of our armed forces please thank them for your independence and for what they do each and every day for the good ole’ U.S. of A. Hard to believe it’s July already. The race
It will be a joy to watch 20 plus classes of full ga gates go at it to see who the fastest racers on th the East Coast really are. If you don’t qualify, pl please plan to attend to support the racers of your chosen series. My bet is that it’s gonna get wild. In this issue also find some great Harescrambles and Flat Track coverage. Some of your local HS guys did really well at the recent National at Miles Mountain and many of your local flat track racers will be competing at their Amateur Nationals just as this issue is releasing. Speaking of Nationals, the big one is only weeks away. Stay tuned next month for a Loretta Lynn Preview. We will tell you who’s going and who to watch for. We are loaded with talent here in our region, and it’s very likely that someone will come home champion. Please enjoy the issue at we’ll see you at the races.

Happy Ramblers 5/18/08 By Ashley Boyan Photography It was a sea of vibrantly colored umbrellas at Happy Ramblers for round # 5 of the 2008 MDRA Race Series. One gigantic motocross slip n’ slide. The starting gate resembled that of a pro national with every rider having an umbrella mate providing refuge from the torrential downpours. Thanks to Chad Wages, who made a smart decision to sit this one out for graciously lending me an umbrella to continue on with the shooting.

The day started off fair with the rain holding off until 11 am and then quarter sized drops began to saturate the already slippery track. The mud was thick and it swallowed several riders in the corners, as well as causing a couple nasty wrecks over the 10 commandments. Riders were fairly squirrelly and had a tough time staying up for all laps. But that did not stop riders like Max Stevey, Garret Toth, and Jeremy Cook who showed their skills in the mud. Amber Hughes took the women’s division beating out Green for the win. Jeremy Cook swept the 250 A, Open A, Plus 25 and Four Stroke divisions. Daniel Corbin had tough luck in the 250 A class but took 2nd in the Open A. Of course the rain went on strike at the end of the day providing a break for the sun to shine. Hopefully when Happy’s next MDRA round rolls around on September 14 I will need some sun block instead of an umbrella. See you then. MDRA - Round # 5 Happy Ramblers Race Results 250 A 1. Fisk Finishes with Two Northeast Classic Series Championships 2008 MSR/ANSWER RACING/ Tucker Rocky Distributing Northeast Classic Motocross Series By Jim Sanderson Yamaha pilot, Matthew Fisk won the battle and the war in his quest for the series championship in the 250 B and Open B divisions at the final round of Northeast Classic Series, hosted by the Fritz family, at the Hurricane Hills Sports Center on May 18th. Fisk came into the final round leading the series points chase in both classes and left with not one, but two series championships. Fisk finished the series in the 250 B division with a total of 36 points and 45 in the Open B division, 16 points ahead of the second place in both classes. Fisk, Damon Rummel and Billy Gallagher led the pack out of the second turn in the opening 250 B moto. Fisk pulled away to start the second lap with a four second lead. Rummel, Justin Maylath, Nicholas May and Tyler Golding rounded out the top five. The gap separating Rummel in second and Maylath in third grew to seven seconds by the start of lap three. The top five were all spread out by the start of lap four. Fisk maintained his four second advantage until the last lap when Rummel closed the gap, but could only reduce Fisk’s lead

Shirk and Gallagher rounded out the top five. Golding passed Gallagher for fourth just before the start of lap three. Gallagher was relegated to fifth. Fisk’s lead increased to eight seconds at the start of the white flag lap and remained there at the checkers. Rummel, Maylath, Shirk and Golding completed the top five. Fisk topped the rostrum with a perfect 1-1. Rummel’s consistent 2-2 rides earned second and Maylath completed the rostrum with a 4-3 tally. Sunny Drake, Gallagher, Fisk and
couldn’t get close enough to execute a pass. Drake crossed the finish line with a 14-second advantage over Gallagher. Fisk, Shirk and Matt Vacendak closed out the top five. Fisk and Moore led the start of the final Open B moto. When the lead pack cleared the downhill triple on lap one, the top five running order was; Moore, Fisk, Gallagher, Gary Peechatka and Shirk. Rain had begun to come down hard, drastically reducing traction and visibility, which caused the top five to spread out. Moore went down on lap three, handing the lead and an automatic 10-second advantage to Fisk. Gallagher, Peechatka, Shirk and Scott Ferris inherited second through fifth. Fisk got the win with a 15-second lead. Fisk (3-1) topped the podium. Gallagher (2-2) took second and Shirk (4-4) third.

Ultimate ATV Mid-Season Review Str CVT Belt Class. Kellie Moran, while only attending two events, is holding onto first place in the 4w Girls class. In the 50cc Stock Limited 4-7, DJ Bassini sits in 1st place but hot on his heels is Joshua Holly in 2nd place. The next stop for the series isn’t until July 20th at Raceway Park and then onto Sleepy Hollow the following weekend. These riders and their competitors are not slacking off. They will be hitting the bicycles for the much needed cardio and their local practice track for that all important seat time to make the charge for District 6 Ultimate Championship Series #1 plate.

As we head into the summer months the 2008 ATV Ultimate Championship Series is in full swing and the point’s battle is heating up. Championships are won and lost in these early rounds by getting valuable points and staying consistent will greatly improve your chances of the coveted District 6 Championship. Pike’s Peak is billed as America’s Mountain. As the plains of Colorado end in Colorado Springs, Pike’s Peak juts abruptly 14,110 feet into the sky famously land marking the beginning of the Colorado Rockies. Annually, the City of Colorado Springs hosts the Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb. Second in racing history to the Indianapolis 500, Pike’s Peak began in 1916 as the highest and most spectacular motor sports event in the world. The week long event attracts racers world wide and culminates on Sunday with the Race to the Clouds. While it takes 19 miles to reach the summit, the race begins at the 7 mile marker where you begin a 12.42 mile adrenalin pumping, high altitude, race against the mountain. Racers experience 156 turns on pavement and gravel surfaces. The elevation at the start is 9,390 feet and concludes at 14,110 feet. As a Honda three and four wheel racer/Champion since 1983 I have always dreamed of racing Pike’s Peak. In July of 2008 I will make the trek to the infamous mountain and test my experience and skills. My goal had been to bring Honda into the spotlight that other manufacturers have held until 2007. I visited Pike’s Peak this past July to get first hand knowledge of what it would take to win. I had the honor of getting to meet and watch a rookie to the event ride a Honda and establish a new record of reaching the summit in 12 minutes and 56 seconds! I see my new goal as keeping Honda on top! To compete I have outlined a plan that requires financial, mental and physical preparation. It was a long ride out there for my family and me, so we left the night before and camped out at the track. It was a lot of fun, but at night it was absolutely freezing which is ironic because the day of the race it was sunny and hot and I ended up getting pretty badly sun burnt. It was definitely well worth it though because it was I think I’m going to be a racer someday. a great race. The track was a little rough, but Motorcycle Racing Action. The Way I Saw It When I got back home Saturday night my neighbor asked me if anyone showed up to race on a holiday weekend. I told him “Not many, just about 700 riders” You couldn’t of composed a better gate sheet if you wrote it yourself, the best of the best were here. “Yeah only 76 of 30+ Vet riders” “ 34 riders in the open A alone” is what I told him. He should have came, he missed the best racing of the year, it was one of those things where you had to be there or be involved. It’s like any event, TV or radio just won’t cut it. The site of full gates, the sound of instant thunder when the bars hit the ground, oh yeah, combine that with a great track and great weather and you got a Memorial Day to remember. Mix that with some sponsors like VPE, Motographx, Keeney, and Sleepy Hollow who really stepped up and it’s icing on the cake. Throw in some elbow to elbow bike banging action on the track and you have a race. He asked me if it’s like the stuff on TV and I had to tell him this was a little different, this was in your face racing. Meanwhile I was thinking back as I watched a rider get hammered by anything that was under Jeremy Cook’s back tire, lap after lap, eating stones, being up close I could hear it. Jeremy looks back and he knows he’s there; does the guy back off, go wide? No because this is what he does, he races for the flag. I thought about explaining it to my neighbor but he had to get back over he was watching something
on TV, he wouldn’t of understood anyway. Memorial day is very special to me and I would like to thank everyone who came out that day Sleepy crew, sponsors, riders and the fans who stepped up for Wyatt Barto who like many of my old friends are not with us but they are never forgotten. As my neighbor walked away he waved goodbye he asked me if I got some good shoots. MAMA MX held it’s 5th race of the season at Delmarva Motorsports Park in Seaford DE June 13th-15th. Open practice was held on Friday the 13th and gave the riders a chance to check out the changes at the track. The start at DMP has been changed and now goes into a180 degree left turn with a berm and then to another 180 degree flat turn to the right. This then goes into a double-triple and then back to the original front stretch. Both new turns are also incorporated into the regular track. DMP held its traditional free pizza party on Friday after practice and everyone present was eligible to win a drawing worth $100.00. Collegeboy/Schoolboy, Women and Senior classes ran on Saturday after a morning practice. Zachary Miller #773 took both motos in the Collegeboy 14-24 and Cody Lunceford #46 took both races in the Schoolboy 12-16 class. Leonard Groves #152 took the first moto in the Senior Open and Wayne Kneel #116 placed second. Ed Lennon #191 won the second race with Groves finishing second. Rodney Duran #620 placed first in both races in Senior Support with #429 Roy Dixon taking back to back

NJ Rider Spotlight By Scott Lukaitis Tell us a little about yourself - I am 24 years old and am a professional photographer. I bounce around from NJ to CA year round, shooting every MX related event I can. I got my start racing/shooting at Englishtown, NJ when I was 12 years old. Time sure flies by!
We were out in Caineville, UT. It is hundreds of miles of natural terrain riding (and) there was a huge hip jump he was hitting over and over. One time he got totally flat. I had him and the jump on the left of the frame with a snow covered mountain range filling the rest of the frame.
You are recognized as one of the sports best young photographers. How did you start you photography career? My mom actually got me my first press pass at the Nassau coliseum arenacross back in 1999. She was there singing the national anthem and I asked her to see if they would let me take pictures on the floor. They said yes. Then I was lucky enough to jump on the digital bandwagon when there was no digital bandwagon in 2000. Steve “TFS” Bruhn was the only other guy out on the track using a digital camera. My mom got me an Olympus digital camera and I started my own website, motoxcentral.com. I would write race recaps and use Bruhn’s photos. It started to catch on and with the support of my family I was able to go to outdoor nationals and X Games at the age of 16. It was a blast.
Who is your favorite rider to shoot? In fmx, that would have to be Todd Potter or Mike Mason. Potter is my roommate so we go shoot all the time. I know both rider’s tricks really well so it makes it a lot easier for me to get great shots of them. When it comes to racing, it would be hands down Ricky Carmichael, the guy was always on it. Every shot always had so much intensity and aggression. It is hard to get a bad photo of RC.
Do you have any formal photography schooling? I took 3 photo classes when I was in High School. My classmates came to me when they had questions. Other then that, it has been a lot of trial and error, along with studying other photographers work.
Do you have a favorite photography assignment? Any shoot with the FMX guys. I know them all really well so working with them is a breeze. I can tell them what I want and they can do the same. Things always turn out good.
You seemed to take that next step when you started shooting your friend Derek Berlew. Did his career steps help you with yours? Derek and I started coming up around the same time. He was doing the IFMA tour and I would go with his family to the east coast events. It definitely helped me out a lot. I got to meet a lot of the top FMX guys of today, back when they were nobodies. It helped me build great relationships and friendships with all the riders. I have always considered the Burlew’s my second family; I could count on them for anything. Did the increasing popularity of Digital Photography help you with your career? The whole digital craze helped me out a lot. People were trying to jump ship from film to digital. I was already there. Even though I couldn’t afford the top level equipment, I had a big jump on everyone else. The growing popularity of my website at the time helped a lot too. My friend John Oggiono and I were going to a lot more events and doing live updates. Not many people were doing it at that time. You shot a bunch of freestyle when that sport was just starting to gain incredible popularity, was that a secret to your success? I am not too sure. I would say my big mouth and out going personality was the secret to my success. I would talk to anyone when I was growing up. I met a lot of the industry big wigs when I was younger. When I was at an event, I made sure that I said hello and spark a conversation. I wanted to let them know I was at the races/fmx events. Do you have a favorite photo that you took? There is a shot I took of Mike Mason back in March of 2005.
Do you prefer freestyle or motocross photography? I love shooting fmx. I do it almost everyday, but there is nothing like the second set of motos at an outdoor national. The lighting is amazing that time of day. You can be so creative since there are barely any restrictions when you shoot a national.
Where is the coolest place you have been with your photography? Caineville, UT is amazing. There are endless possibilities out there (and) the scenery looks like you are on another planet. I can’t wait till we take another trip out there again. I haven’t had a chance to travel over seas yet. I was really looking forward to going to Rome, Italy for Redbull Xfighters, but that got canceled. Who are some of your clients? My main clients are Metal Mulisha, Rockstar Energy Drink, Osiris shoes, Dvs shoes, and Factory Effex. I work with a lot of other people, but those are my steady ones. Is there any rider that you haven’t shot that you would like to? Can we go back in time for this one? I wish I could have shot photos of MC when he kicking everyone’s butt in the 90’s. I got to take photos of MC a couple of times, but I would love to get a one on one shoot with him. That guy is my hero. Which photographers do you admire? Simon Cudby, Frank Hoppen, and Cameron Baird. Each have their own unique style. Their shots are top notch and sometimes I find myself wondering how did they do that? They keep me motivated to think outside of the box. Any closing words? Thank you to my family, especially my mom for supporting my hobby turned career over the years and the industry people who gave a punk kid from NJ a chance. I wouldn’t be here without you. You can take the kid out of Jersey, but you can’t take Jersey out of the kid.
Girls Just Wanna Ride! Hey everyone! I wanted to take this chance to welcome the grueling summer heat to our sport! As we all know, this spring has most certainly not fallen short of the typical ‘spring showers’ profile given to the months following the winter. In all honesty, there for a few weekends our bikes saw nothing but mud races! The break of wet weather came with such a night and day difference! Out with the raindrops and in with the perspiration from the sudden heat! Hot is the only way to sum up that sudden weather pattern difference! As some of you may know, last year I gathered riders (all females to be more specific) and held a riding class at Happy Ramblers. Every person (attendants, Kelsey Green held her second annual girls mx school in early June at Happy Ramblers MC. parents, and helpers) had such a blast; I opted to arrange a second class in 2008. The 2007 class was in the heated month of July, which were the usual steamy conditions. I made note to self for 2008 this factor would be altered by setting an earlier date. Although I was trying to avoid the high temperature, June 7 for this year was exactly that! My efforts to bypass the extreme heat failed miserably! The weeks leading into the school were none other than crazy for me! What I had planned, and what they unfolded like were very different. My plans were to train, ride, race and work as usual. On my plate also was planning for the mx school, graduation from high school the day before the class, and being ready to teach on Saturday. It was easily said that I was a little overwhelmed. To top it all off was this bittersweet factor. With racing in hand is crashing also. A very short few weeks before the class I had a crash that left me sidelined up until the weekend of the class. This took out my plans that I’d be riding and training. With the extra time on my hands I threw myself 100% into preparation for the girls! Other then the temperature factor, I am certain that everyone had a great day on Saturday! The girls rode as long as their bodies could withstand in the heat. In the morning, they learned, in a series of stations, bike control, and body positioning, jumping techniques, and braking properly. Once through the stations was enough for the attendants, I could see that their bodies were begging for lunch and a cool down! Post lunch the girls faced a table of products that several companies donated for them. At this time I’d like to take a chance to thank those companies, Damzl Fuel, Dirt-Boys Racing, Tucker Rocky, MotoGraph-X, RPM, BPS, PJ1, Raush Creek, Silkolene, Girlyz, Hyper Racewear, and Twin Air. It was easily said that the girls left with their arms full! After lunch everyone geared up to ride again. Many girls were begging to do starts, so we headed to the gate and did a few motos. By the end of this, most all girls were spent from the long hot day. There were few left who did figure 8’s and ovals. Not only were the girls exhausted, but I myself was beat and ready for bed! The sun left me drained of energy and with fried skin! Also, I wanted to thank those helpers who endured the heat at my side to assist me, Mom and Dad, Smoke and Sharon Fisher, Willy Toth and the guys who readied the track for me, Chad Snyder, CJ Baker and Jason Yohe.
Thanks to all the girls that came out to ride, we all had a blast! To not only the girls, but guys and families have a great summer, stay safe and ride hard!

Anti foam agents: Air in oil galleys is not a good thing. If bubbles form then their entry into a pressure fed bearing can result in a “sneeze” that can blow all the oil out of the bearing with unfortunate results. Antifoam agents stop bubbles from forming by reducing surface tension. A good example and one we have all experienced is the garden hose. You turn on the water, pick up the spray handle, squeeze it and are greeted with the sneezes I referred to as a mixture of air and water are expelled ahead of the oncoming water.
Oil Part 2
Without oil our civilization wouldn’t be where it is today. And as we have advanced with time so has our oils. With today’s modern race engines we ask a lot of our oils so they need some special requirements. The VP of Silkolene Oils once said “we think of today’s four-stroke MX engines as single cylinder Formula One engines” The high output, loads and subsequent heat take their toll so today’s oils are engineered with quite a few additives that perform specific functions. Anti-wear additives: These are chemical compounds that form salts or soaps in a surface reaction with metals depositing themselves on surfaces and acting as a protective barrier. At engine start up there usually isn’t a large concentration of oil in high load areas like the camshaft. These compounds, a commonly used one is zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate, form a molecular film with a low coefficient of friction that will sacrifice itself to protect the engine part for that split second that oil is not present in quantity. The film flakes off when loaded and is carried away to the filter; a new layer will form as oil arrives. Over time these compounds are used up and the oil will lose it’s anti-wear properties, a good reason to
Detergents: These additives help keep our engines clean by not allowing sludge to form that would interfere with normal engine operation. Keeping piston rings from sticking in their grooves is one function of detergents. Anti-oxidants: Though measured oil temperature in an engine may be low the oil will be subject to localized high temperatures like those found just beneath the top piston ring. When hot oil is exposed to oxygen it can cross link to form gums and sludge. Anti-oxidants are designed to interfere with the chemistry of oxidation allowing oils to work at higher temperatures than they would otherwise tolerate. Dispersants: These help keep foreign matter in the oil so they can be carried along to the filter. Anti-rust/corrosion inhibitors: Moisture and acids form in engines, these inhibitors will coat exposed metal surfaces preventing corrosion. Pour point depressants: Get oil cold enough and the heavier components can form a network of solids that impede flow. PPD’s surround these particles and prevent them from clustering together. Many of these additives lose their effectiveness over time which is why it is important to perform regular oil changes. A good maintenance schedule will save money in the long run. Believe it.

The 2008 D6 Ultimate MX Series picked up steam moving into the month of June. Doublin Gap hosted round # 4 of the series coming off record numbers the week prior over the Memorial Day holiday weekend at Sleepy Hollow. This round was double billed with the annual Yamaha All Star National at Doublin Gap. The race weekend, in addition to all of the great Ultimate MX sponsors

Turnouts for this years series have been outstanding as racers vie for those valuable points that will lead them to the big year end shoot out between the big three series here on the east coast. They all believe they have what it takes to compete with career racers like Barry Carsten and Damien Plotts who continue to notch wins as time moves on. Renzland Relentless Spangler Splendid Spangler reeled in Harrison and made the pass for second in the rhythm section at the end of lap two. Spangler quickly caught and passed Pamart taking the lead at the beginning of the tree-line section shortly after the start of lap thee. Harrison made a mistake in the sweeper by the start that allowed Mulcahy to take fourth. Harrison was displaced to fifth. Spangler pulled away and had a seven second advantage with two laps to go. Spangler’s lead was ten seconds at the checkered flag. Fox, Pamart, Mulcahy and Kramer rounded out the top five.
2008 Ultimate Motocross Championship Series By Jim Sanderson Now in its fourth year, the Ultimate Motocross Championship Series, sponsored by Vertucci Performance Equipment (VPE) and vperacing.com, continues its tremendous growth and offers some of the fiercest competition and finest contingencies of any series on the east coast. Five rounds feature factory contingency from Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha and Husqvarna, two rounds feature Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Husqvarna contingency and remaining rounds include contingency awards from Suzuki, Kawasaki and Husqvarna. At the conclusion of the series, the overall top six riders in each class will receive awards and prizes at the third annual Ultimate MX Series banquet. Round five of the series was hosted by the Fritz’s at the Hurricane Hills Sports Center in Clifford, Pennsylvania. Rider turnout was phenomenal with more than 500 riders registered for battle of the fast and furious Hurricane Hills racecourse. Even Mother Nature cooperated. Bright sunny skies, low humidity and temp’s in the low 80’s provided riders with the ultimate environment for an ultimate motocross racing experience. Yamaha pilot, Kody Renzland, topped the podium of the extremely competitive 250 B division. Renzland started both moto’s in fourth and took the lead in the opening moto on the second lap and in the final moto on the first. From there Renzland just rode smart and consistent, taking the first moto win with a seven second lead and the final moto win with a nine second advantage. It was also an all Yamaha podium. Andres Benenaula finished second and Timothy Savidge Jr. third. Josh Emmi, Alex Gillespie, Savidge and Renzland led the twenty-seven rider field out of the second turn in the opening 250 B moto. Just before the start of the second lap the top five running order was; Emmi, Renzland, Benenaula, Savidge and Victor Gudbergsson.
Spangler (1-1) topped the podium. Fox (2-2) took second and Pamart (4-3) third.

Just after the start of lap two, Emmi and Renzland battled through the Hurricane Hills double-elevator and the huge downhill ski jump until Renzland made the pass for the lead in the second turn of the back tree-line section. Emmi was relegated to second. By the start of lap four, the top four were all spread out but the battle for fifth began between Gudbergsson and Gillespie. Renzland led Emmi by four seconds and Savidge trailed Emmi by two. Gillespie made the pass on Gudbergsson, taking fifth, just after the start of lap three. By the start of lap four, Renzland was reducing his lap times by a second per lap and took the white flag six seconds ahead of Emmi. Gillespie used the faster inside line in the big sweeper by the start to take fourth. Savidge was displaced to fifth. Emmi went down in the final rhythm section with only one turn to go. Benenaula inherited second, Gillespie third, Zach Klaptosky fourth and Savidge remained fifth. Renzland took the win with a seven second lead.

Savidge, Benenaula and Gillespie rounded out the top five. Renzland quickly pulled away and had an eight second advantage by the start of lap three. Renzland increased his lead to ten seconds by the white flag as the battle for second through fourth raged on between Emmi, Savidge and Benenaula. Renzland took the checkered flag nine seconds ahead of Emmi. Savidge, Benenaula and Jimmy Doolittle closed out the top five. Renzland topped the podium with a perfect 1-1. Benenaula’s 2-4 rides took runner-up and Savidge completed the podium with a 5-3 tally. RRP Suzuki pilot, Greg “Frenchie” Pamart led the start of the opening Open A moto trailed by Team Green’s Lowell Spangler, Charles
Fox and Addison Kramer. Spangler used a text book block pass to take the point at the exit to the rhythm section at the end of lap one. Pamart was displaced to second. Fox caught and passed Pamart in the corner preceding the downhill tabletop to secure second. Pamart dropped to third. Brian Mulcahy and Kramer rounded out the top five. Mulcahy closed the gap on Pamart and made the pass for third on the downhill tabletop on lap three. Pamart was relegated to fourth. The top five were all spread out after the start of lap five. Spangler took the checkers 12-seconds ahead of Fox. Mulcahy, Pamart and Kramer completed the top five. Colton Harrison, Pamart and Fox led the start of the final Open A moto. Harrison and Pamart battled for the lead until Pamart made the pass for the point in the big sweeper by the start area on lap two relegating Harrison to second. Spangler, Fox and Mulcahy rounded out the top five.

Blessing Cashes in on Wildwood Beach By Scott Lukaitis Photo by Lukaitisphoto.com Wildwood NJ, May 31 & Jun 1 The sounds of the Atlantic Ocean and the thunderous boom of four-stroke engines combine for an event like no other. The Thunder in the Sand promoted by New Jersey Thunder Motorsports took place over the last weekend of May at Wildwood New Jersey. The unique race is held twice a year once in the spring and once in the fall. Held over a period of two days with one moto in each class held on each day the relaxed events schedule allows for plenty of time to soak up the New Jersey sun. The Mark Hufnagle designed track is built right on the beach in the sand. With no other dirt brought in the shifting sand of the Jersey shore make for a challenging and exciting track for all. The 250 and 450 “A” classes were the premier classes for the weekend. A large cash payout meant for a profitable weekend for the winner. The first class of the weekend was the 250 class, for up to 250c two and four strokes, Adam Blessing was the class of the field. Riding a borrowed Suzuki RM250 the Fox / Dragon Optical backed rider jumped out to an early lead and never looked back taking the victory. No Fear / Von Zipper backed Dave Ginolfi was second and Yamaha mounted Eric Balawejder was third. The three riders would repeat their moto scores in moto 2 and finish in the same order overall.
Adam Blessing was your double Expert class winner taking the victory in both the 250 and 450 Expert classes. The 450 class saw Blessing on his more familiar Honda but the results were much the same. Blessing was again the winner of both motos with Ginolfi second in both motos. In the first moto LDR / Moose backed Chris Chomko put his Honda in third and Kawasaki rider Evan
Forosisky in fourth. Those two riders would swap position in moto 2 thus giving Forosisky the final step on the podium. Chomko was not left off the podium however as he used 1-1 moto scores to take the 25+ Expert class payday. Second behind Chomko was 30+ Expert class
winner Brian Carroll and third overall was Honda rider Tristian Huey. With classes for the youngest to the oldest and all bike sizes a great weekend was had. Even the torrential rain and threat of a tornado on Saturday afternoon didn’t hamper the great weekend. Make your plans now for the fall event held on the weekend of October 10th and 11th. the soot swallowed me up like quicksand and I had to use the multiple lines to get past people. When I was finishing the race and was heading back through the pits it looked like a battle zone. Bikes were battered up and had bent this and that’s. The medics had their hands full with injuries and dehydration. It was a really nasty race! But after it all sunk in and I looked back on the day, I realized it was a battle of the fittest and that races like these are what makes you better as a rider.

Hey guys! Thank god schools out huh!! Now I can concentrate on riding and training a bit more. On June 1st I took a trip up to the fourth round of the ECEA series, hosted by the Reading Off Road Riders. The temperature was screaming, around 98 degrees which caused some serious needs to hydrate. When we arrived I had a few hours before I raced, so I grabbed a few water bottles and a Gatorade and headed into the woods to walk some of the track. It was just as I remembered. Rocks everywhere! Rocks, rocks, and more rocks! One good thing about this track though is that there were several different lines to choose from pretty much everywhere. After I came back it was almost time to race, so I headed down to the infamous start of the RORR hare scrambles. It held at least 6 inches of just coal soot, and it’s the dustiest thing ever. It is really key to getting the holeshot here or you would be left behind in a big cloud of dust and barley able to see! I was proof of that as

Kearney maintained his position on this lap - holding the number 3 spot, trailing by 5:23. Riding like a man on a mission- Jerod Stoner was ripping through the checkpoint - but still in fourth place, and trailing by 4:59. Andrew Delong kept a cool head and staked a claim

The first rider through the checkpoint at the end of the first lap was Ben Bouwens, rolling through with a 24:21 lap time, followed by Jerod Stoner. Coming in number 3 was Jason Raines, on the gas, but a little off the pace - now trailing by 0:01. Following on their heels were Glenn J. Kearney and Nathan Kanney separated by 0:01. We lost 2 riders by the time we’d reached the end of lap 2, with 32 completing lap number 2. Ben Bouwens was still in the lead at the end of lap 2 with the rest of the pack picking the track debris from their goggles and chest protectors. We watched as two riders made the largest gains (and losses) on this lap - with Heath Voss, moving up from number 20 to the number 14 spot - meanwhile John Oechsle dropped 4 places from number 12 to number 16. Jason Raines was still rolling along in second place, trailing by 0:03. Jerod Stoner was having an incredible ride, running a strong third, only 0:27 off the pace of the second place rider. The action on the track centered around Patrick Spirawk, moving up from number 26 to the number 23 spot - meanwhile Brett Zofchak dropped 5 places, from number 17 to the number 22 position. Nathan Kanney was solid in third place - trailing by 1:00. JEROD Stoner refused to sit back - it’s not over until it’s over - and was in fourth place, trailing the third place rider by 0:25. Glenn J. Kearney came through the checkpoint in fifth place, saying - “Step aside folks, I’m on a roll.” At that point there was only 0:30 separation between the number 5 spot and the fourth place rider. We lost 3 riders by the time we’d reached the end of lap 4, with 29

Thinking about Bouwens was displaying true grit end, but it was the sustained average spending a little more time at the gym on the course, ripping through the speed of 23.05MPH by Nathan in preparation for a workout like this, checkpoint in third place, with a 2:10 Kanney that claimed victory over the Jerod Stoner still owned fourth place disadvantage. Glenn J. Kearney was efforts of Ben Bouwens, and Jason - trailing by 1:51. Hey Everyone, A lot has been going on since the last time I wrote to you all last month. We had our third AMA singles national of the year in Springfield, IL and also the first AMA twins national in Vernon, NY. I also have been traveling racing many other races across the country. Although, Most have been rainouts! Nothing is worse then traveling half way across the country to watch it rain. Half the time it seems when we get rained out, it’s not even raining! Go figure. This has been one of the worst years in my 6 years of racing with rainouts. Hopefully the worst of Mother Nature is behind us and she sends the dirt track world her blessings for the rest of the year. I was really excited to race Springfield TT. Not only it being a national, but because it just looked like an all around awesome track! Super fast, long, and tacky. One of the most beautiful tracks on the circuit. I got there and I was really nervous. I have never raced this event before and it has so much history behind it. I went out for qualifying and I felt super awesome. I didn’t have any of the super fast guys in my qualifying session so I didn’t know how hard I could push it. I had a super stacked heat race. Number 1 rider in the world Kenny Coolbeth, Multi-Time Springfield TT winner JR Schnabel, Former rookie of the year Sam Halbert, along with Shaun Russel, Aaron King, and Johnny Lewis. I could only manage a 7th, but I was closing in during the late laps. In my semi, I once again had many fast riders, but I was determined to win this semi and make my first national. I had a good start, but I hit the only bump on the track before the jump. I came off the jump in 3rd and I started loosing time on the leaders. I put my head down and laid down some super fast laps and caught up to the first two riders. Now sitting in 3rd, I was setting up 2nd place John Lewis who was stuck behind Number 10 Dan Stanley. I looked over my shoulder and saw Kevin Varnes and Nick Cummings behind me a little ways so I knew I could try whatever it took to pass the riders ahead of me. With 3 laps to go, I was going to try and make a move coming back onto the short track corner, but as soon as I picked up the gas to go underneath John, he tucked the front end and crashed. I slammed into him and his bike but I stayed up-right. As soon as I hit him, I went to grab the clutch in but I panicked and pulled in the hot-start instead. I kicked and kicked as I was still in 2nd place, but no fire and I again would be watching the national from the grandstands. The worst part was John was laying knocked out in the middle of the track and the AMA never red-flagged it for his safety. Had they redflagged it like they were suppose to, they would of reverted back a lap, called the race and I would of been in transfer. But the important part was John was OK. Henry Wiles won the national with Joe Kopp and Jake Johnson battling all race for 2nd and 3rd. Kopp got the nod. Bad luck happens, but I’ll be back next year! The Springfield Mile the next two days were rained out and we came home. Vernon Downs was the sight of the first twins national. I felt pretty good in qualifying, learning as much as I could being this was my first mile and first cushion race on a 750. It was also my first ever twins national so I was excited. I didn’t do super good in my heat race, but I learned a lot. In the semi, I got behind cushion rider Ricky Marshall and kind of just followed him as much as I could into the corners. I felt a lot better in my semi and only finished 3 seconds away from the winner at the finish. Going 125 mph into the corners on a 750 was definitely something that I had to get used to. Kenny Coolbeth won the final by half a track, pretty crazy. Bryan Smith and Jared Mees were 2nd and 3rd. I felt good on the 750. Can’t wait to get on some of these clay tracks I know I can do good on. My sister Shayna won the 450 pro-sport final. She was hauling the mail.

I did a couple more local races after Vernon at Path Valley and Piston Poppers. Path Valley was uneventful and I had some REALLY horrible holeshots after setting fast heat race time I could only work my way up to a 2nd. It was good too, Piston Poppers had a real good showing and the track was awesome. After beating Jake Johnson in my heat race, I knew I could win on this day. Even though it seemed some riders jumped the line on both races and were never called for I finished a real close 2nd to Don Mullen in the one and I won the other. I was disappointed after setting fast heat race times to set pole in both finals, but sometimes things just don’t go your way no matter how fast you are. New rules that you might want to know about is they have told us that we can no longer cut tires, tractionize tires, treat tires or anything along those lines. Daytona Motorsports Group that bought AMA Pro Racing is finally starting to put their 2 cents into AMA Dirt track and hopefully they are for the better. I like the new rule, as long as no one tries to cheat it. They told us there will be like a $40,000 fine and a one year suspension from the AMA if someone is caught cheating the rule. The next couple nationals are June 21 in Maryville, TN and then June 27 and June 28 in Bedford, PA and Lima, OH. Then I will be at the Duquoin Amateur Nationals cheering my sister on as she chases the Pro-Sport National Championship and then Topeka, KS national on July 4th. These next couple nationals are going to be real important for me so wish me luck!
