Hello Race Fans!
Happy Memorial Day everybody. I know I’m a week or so late, but you know what they say. Anyhow, I hope everyone was able to take a moment to remember those that have gone ahead and served this great country of ours. Can you believe it’s summer already? Thats right, Memorial Day is the real kick off to the summer season. The kids are getting out of school, the pools are open and it’s time to kick the racing into high gear. By this time everyone should have the bikes dialed in and the cobwebs worked out. The local point series are in full swing and things are starting to heat up. It seems every year the racing gets more intense. The expert riders are still out there tearing up the local tracks, the mini kids are moving thru the ranks, and you thought they were fast on the little bikes, look at them go now. And every season there is a new crop of 50 riders. Ain’t it great! All I can say is “lets hope it stays that way.” I usually stay away from any negativity about our sport but it seems that as we move into the heart of this 2006 season, the griping seems to be more intense than ever. Now, at the risk of offending someone, which I’m sure I will. I’m going to go out on a limb and tell everybody to just “Chill Out”. The best thing about this country is
the fact that we do have freedom of speech, although it manages to get us in trouble more times than we would like. Did anyone ever stop to think why we were born with two ears and just one mouth? At that, just remember that we are all priviledged to be able to race at will. To have so many choices, places to ride, dates to ride, disciplines to ride. And please remember, they are choices. If you don’t like the way things are at one place then you can certainley go ride at another place. No need to get your valves in an uproar. Besides, when was the last time that you were part of a group of say 25 people that helped organize, flag, run, feed, score and entertain 500-600 people in one days time? Something to think about, I guess. Back to the racing, it’s all good and there’s plenty of it. Check out your options here in the pages of MRA, then grab the family and head on out to a race track near you. As always we’re open for suggestions on how to make the sport better. If you have ideas on how something can be improved, send it in. Maybe we can get it in print and help make a difference. It sure beats the other option. Until next time.

A Kid’s View
Est. 1990
By Chase Rusden
Hey Guys, this is Chase Rusden a harescramble racer from District 6, 65cc 10-11 class. I am going to write articles from time to time about anything and everything that has to do with motorcycles and racing. I remember my fist race, it was a motocross. I was five years old, I crashed every turn and I hated it. My dad told me it was going to get better. By the end of the day I had made my first lap without a crash and I was hooked. Now that I am 10, I breathe, eat, and sleep to ride and race. I play soccer, mountain
bike, and do pushups and situps to stay in shape when I’m not riding. The day before the race I try to eat a lot of protein and carbs and also drink a lot of fluids. Whenever I get to the track early I walk the track to see what I have to prepare for. The night before the race I go to bed early and usually fall asleep picturing myself riding the track. The day of the race I start off with having a good breakfast and more fluids and I also try to stretch and relax. Just Minutes before the start I get butterflies because I can’t wait to get going. Once the flag drops I focus on getting the holeshot and then I try to breathe, relax, and get into my rhythm. I enjoy riding harescrambles the most because it gives you many different obstacles to tackle and plenty of riding time. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more articles in upcoming issues!

TIRES
1st YEAR RACER HOTSHOT Name: Event:
Stan Bolen III PA State Harescramble Series D6 MX
Age: 12 Hometown: New Oxford, PA District #: 17 B Ride: KX 85 Class: 85 7-11 Experience: Riding 8 years, 1st year racing. Hobbies: Going fishing, helping dad with his business. Fav. Food: Pizza Fav. Racer: James Stewart Sponsors: Bolens Tree Service, Blettner Power Sports. I’m guessing that many of you may have noticed our change in Hotshot formats this season. Traditionally we have always done a Holeshot Hotshot or a Harescramble Hotshot, but this season we thought we would expand our horiizons a bit. Not that we may not go back to some of those features but for now we thought we’d try some different aspects of the sport. For example, this year was the first time that we’ve featured a Vet Class Hotshot and that went over quite well. Again in this issue we have another first, a First Year Racer Hotshot. Every year we see many new racers come onto the scene and some of them do real well while others struggle a bit trying to adjust to the competition and terrain. It seems that for those that stick with it for a period of time, they eventually get the experience they need and they start to work their way up thru the ranks. It doesn’t happen often but occasionally you’ll get a guy or a girl like Stan Bolen III. Stan burst onto the racing scene late last fall at a Flying Dutchmen Harescramble. Stan has been riding off road at his familys cabin in the mountains of PA since he was just a youngster. Stan got his frist ride, a small four wheeler when he was just 4 years old and he was content to trail ride all these years until one day last year when he asked his dad if he could race. The Bolens did some research and then headed off to the Flying Dutchmen to try a harescramble. Stan just decided he wanted to race, and race he did. In his first event he ended up with a top five finish. I guess this just fueled the fire and Stan hasn’t looked back since. This season he’s competed in both harescrambles and motocross again finishing in the top five in all his events. A few weeks ago on the way home from a race Stan said to his dad, “Dad, I’m trying my best, I just can’t win”. The advice was to do your best and just have fun. Since then Stan has won two out of three events. He took back to back wins in the PA State Harescramble Series and a second place at the SPER OX Bo Harescramble against some of the best youngin’s in the business. My bet is that Stan is on his way to a great career in this great sport of motorcycle racing. Keep your eyes on him and watch out next month, who knows, you just might be our next MRA / Kenda Tire Hotshot. Jim Bull MRA
Tech Tips
It’s Friday night and you’re looking forward to this week’s race (or trail ride). As you look over your bike, there’s one thing you keep trying not to notice, but it just keeps beckoning your attention. Yes, it’s your bikes tires. They’re saying “change me, change me”. You’re thinking “but I don’t want to”. Well, we both know it’s inevitable, so lets get down to it. I’m sure you’re all smart enough to know how important the correct tire choice is, so we’re not going to talk about that now. We’re going to focus on the actual changing of the tire. After you’ve washed your bike and put it on a stand, remove the wheel. Don’t forget one of my previous tips about putting your axle in the silencer as a holder. Just make sure
it doesn’t fall down into the silencer like it did to a friend of mine (no names, but it rhymes with Alex Paul). Put the sprocket side down, your knuckles will thank you later. Remove the valve stem core to let all of the air out of your tube. You’ll want to remove the nut completely from both the valve stem and the rim lock. Push down on the tire a few inches away from the rim lock to allow the bead to drop into the recessed center of the rim. Start removing the tire on the opposite side from the rim lock. Make sure you’re using tire irons, you’re just asking for a pinched tube if you use a screwdriver. After you have one side off, take out the tube and the remove the tire completely. I like to stand the tire up to remove the second side. Some type of lubricant makes removing and installing your tire much easier. I’ve used WD-40, windex, a little dish detergent in water, or a professional tire mounting such as that offered by Yamaha. Now that your old tire is off, I’d suggest tossing that rubber rim band and using good old duct tape. Clean the spoke nipples first and maybe even spray in a little WD-40.. You don’t want to trap any unnecessary moisture in the nipples. Wipe off any excess lubricant so the tape sticks. Now would be a good time to tighten your spokes too. Installing the new tire will go much easier if the tire is warm. If it’s cooler weather and you’re in your garage, put it near a heater to soften the rubber. If you’re outside, lay the new
tire in the sun while you’re removing the old one. Start by lubing your tire and installing one side. Don’t forget to check if it’s a directional tire and install it so you’ll be working on the brake rotor side. Keep that sprocket side down! Motion pro makes a nifty little tool called the bead buddy trail. It’s a small clamp that acts like a third hand once you have your tire started. That way you can have both hands free to use two tire irons. It’s a good idea to put some baby powder in the tire allow your tube to move freely, this will help to prevent pinching. Insert the tube and put a little bit of air into it, this will stop the tube from laying flat and will also help avoid a pinch. Put the valve stem nut on a few threads so the stem doesn’t fall completely in the tire. Start near the rim lock and work your way around the tire. Be very careful when inserting your tire irons that you are not pinching the tube. And remember what mommy always said…..take little bites. After your tire is on, check to make sure the tube is not under the bead anywhere. Now is the moment of truth, add some air and keep your fingers crossed! You’ll need more air to seat the bead, then drop down to the proper pressure. I normally run 12lbs for most MX tracks. You’ll need more for rocky tracks or trails. It’s a good idea to keep an extra tube in your vehicle, you won’t be able to find one when you need it most. Install the tire, adjust your chain, and you’re ready to ride. Stay safe and have fun. What’s up everybody? It’s the season where each and every rider is training hard and getting ready to try for Loretta’s. There’s a lot of qualifiers that have raced already and soon the regional’s will be starting! Over the weekend of April 29th and 30th, there was a LL
Qualifier at Sunday Creek Raceway in Millfield, Ohio. A long drive, about eight hours, but it was well worth it! My dad, brother, and I went down with the John’s family and Big T. Later we saw Callahan and Roth speeding by us on the highway. They got there before we did because of transportation problems, ha ha! It all ended up good though and by the time we all got to the track, the adults needed to kick back and relax. Saturday and Sunday practice started around 8:008:30. All of the district 6 racers were, Kyle Sidle, Garret Toth, Nick Myers, Dennis Johns, Tom Sebastian (Big
T) Gary Radford, Dan Callahan, Randy Saxenmeyer, Ant Roth, Zack Sethman, Tom Campanella, Willy Toth, Damian Thompson, and anyone else that I missed I’m very sorry!! Anyways, back to the racing details. Racing went very well and many of our guys qualified in. My brother Kyle got 3rd overall in 125 C stock and mod, and 1st in 250 open C. Tom Sebastian ended up getting 2nd in +45 and 3rd in +40. Dennis Johns, #954, got 3rd in Schoolboy stock and 2nd in Schoolboy mod. Zack Sethman overall got 4th place in both 125C stock and mod. Tom Campanella got 1st in 14-15, along with Nick Myers who took the overall in the 125C race. Gary Radford placed 4th in mod, 5th in stock 250 B and 6th in mod 8th in stock 125 B.
Those are only a few of the results, if you would like to see more, you can check it out on the web at www. mxsports.com . Sunday Creek Raceway ended up being an awesome track. They were pretty good with prepping the track and they used just the right amount of water. The soil was like a tacky clay and it made gnarly berms. Like I said, these are the months where riders all around the world do anything it takes to make it to the one big place, Lorretta Lynns. We have some fast riders in our district and all you readers better be prepared to see them all do well at the regionals in June and July. Until again, Nicole Sidle.

2006 THOR/Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic Motocross Series Round 2: Old Bridge Township Raceway Park By Jim P. Sanderson Englishtown, NJ, April 23, 2006
Casey Clark (161), Kevin Brodsky (727), Phil Nicoletti (71) and Brain Mulcahy (219) lead the start of the final 250 Pro/Expert moto at the Northeast Classic series at Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey on April 23rd. MX Pay Day sponsored PDL Racing’s Casey Clark’s consistency earned him the top tier of both the 125 and 250 Pro/Expert class podiums at round two of the 2006 Thor/Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic Motocross Series held at the legendary Old Bridge Townships’ Raceway Park. In the 125 Pro/Expert class, Clark’s consistent 2-2 rides earned him the overall. In the 250 class, Clark rode to a perfect 1-1. Clark and Phil Nicoletti are tied for the lead in series points in the 125 class at 19 each. Clark and his teammate, Kevin Brodsky are tied for the lead in the 250 class series points at 17 each after two of five rounds. Mother Nature was very uncooperative for the second round. Almost two inches of rain fell the day prior to the event. The morning practices and the first half of the race program were a muddy mess but the sun eventually came out and dried the racecourse for the second set of motos. Nicoletti and Clark led the start of the opening 125 Pro/Expert. Nicoletti took the lead in the second turn with Clark settling in close behind. Jay Weller, Jim McIlvaine and Barry Carsten rounded out the top five. Nicoletti started lap two with a four second advantage. Weller held third when Carsten passed McIlvaine for fourth. Nicoletti increased his lead to ten seconds by the start of lap five but then went down in the second turn. Nicoletti remounted with the lead but his lead decreased to three seconds. Nicoletti held on for the win with a five second advantage. Clark, Weller, Carsten and Brodsky rounded out the top five. Nicoletti, Carsten, Clark, Jason Harper and Brodsky led the start of the final 125 Pro/Expert moto. Nicoletti quickly pulled out to a three second lead after only a half lap but went down in the big sweeper following the huge infield double. Carsten, Clark,
Brodsky, Ronnie Stewart and Brain Mulcahy all advanced. Nicoletti remounted eighth. Carsten held on to take the win with a three second lead. Clark, Nicoletti, Brodsky and William Duffy rounded out the top five. Clark topped the podium with a 2-2. Nicoletti’s 1-3 tally earned second overall and Carsten closed out the podium with a 4-1 score. Carsten and Brodsky led the start of the opening 250 Pro/Expert moto with Mulcahy, Clark and Nicoletti trailing. Nicoletti worked his way to the front and passed Carsten for the lead on lap three. Carsten dropped to second. Brodsky held third and Clark and Mulcahy were fourth and fifth. On the fifth lap, Nicoletti was nowhere to be seen. Carsten inherited the lead with Brodsky, Clark, Mulcahy and Ty Wallace in tow. Clark got by Brodsky and then passed Carsten on the last lap to take the lead and held on to take the win. Mulcahy, Brodsky, Carsten and Wallace rounded out the top five. Clark, Nicoletti, Brodsky and Mulcahy led the start of the final 250 Pro/Expert moto. Clark had the lead by lap two. Brodsky, Mulcahy, Carsten and Weller rounded out the top five. Clark’s lead increased to eight seconds lead by lap three. Clark took the checkers with a whopping 13-seecond lead. Carsten, Weller, Wallace and Brodsky rounded out the top five. Clark topped the podium with a perfect 1-1. Carsten earned runner-up with a 4-2 tally and Brodsky closed out the podium with a 3-5 score.

2006 THOR/Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic Motocross Series & District 3 Points Race Round 3: Broome-Tioga Sports Center By Jim P. Sanderson Binghamton, NY, April 30, 2006 The third round of the 2006 Thor/Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic Series had the largest turnout so far in the series with just over 700 riders signed up to do battle on the technical Broome-Tioga racecourse. Rider turnout was certainly influenced by the fact that the Pro/Expert riders would be running the full national track layout that some will be returning to in August as they try to qualify for round 10 of the AMA US Motocross Championships. Young Honda pilot, Phil Nicoletti, dominated the 250 Pro/Expert class with a 1-1 finish, his second perfect 1-1 of the series and is now tied in series points with veteran Suzuki pilot, Barry Carsten, at 20 after three of five rounds. The 250 Pro/Expert class lined up for the start of their opening moto only three riders short of a full gate. Unfortunately, PDL Racings Casey Clark and his teammate Kevin Brodsky, who were tied for the lead in series points in the 250 class coming into round three did not race. Clark suffered an injury on Saturday during the warm-up race and Brodsky suffered an injury earlier in the week. Nicoletti led the start of the opening 250 moto with a huge holeshot but was relinquished to second in the second turn by Babbitt Enxus Oil Kawasaki sponsored, Damien Plotts. Trailing were Carsten, Alex Sigismondi and Jack Carpenter. Nicoletti closed the gap on Plotts and made the pass for the lead at the tail end of lap one. Plotts was relegated to second. Meanwhile, the battle was on between Carsten, Sigismondi, Carpenter and Mitch Dougherty for third through sixth. Carpenter made the pass on Sigismondi on the downhill “Carmichael” triple taking fourth. Sigismondi dropped to fifth. Nicoletti had a five second advantage on Plotts on lap three. When the leaders descended the national hill, the top three were unchanged. Dougherty and Jay Weller were now running fourth and fifth. Carsten closed the gap on Plotts and the two battled through the first half of lap four. Carsten came off the national hill in second. Plotts dropped to third. Plotts bobbled at the base of the hill, which let Carsten pull away. Dougherty and Weller held fourth and fifth. Nicoletti did the “Carmichael” triple on the last lap, landing it with only one hand on the bars and the other in the air in a triumphant winning wave to the crowd. Nicoletti finished with a seven second advantage. Carsten, Plotts, Dougherty and Weller rounded out the top five. Nicoletti, Dougherty and Plotts led the start of the final 250 Pro/Expert moto with Weller and Dave Sterritt in tow. Nicoletti had a six second lead at the start of lap three. Dougherty held second and Plotts and Weller were battling for third. Weller made the pass on Plotts in the first turn on lap three taking

Ridersville Cycles Ryan Jones races to the 250 A win. Mountaineer Raceway was the site for Round #3 of the 2006 MDRA Race Series. As is the norm for the MDRA over 500 racers came out to participate at today’s event. The crowd was taking advantage of the mild spring time weather by enjoying the bright sunny skies and the warm temperatures for so early in the season. The College Boy moto took the gate first to kick off Round #3 with Dustin Mottley from Baltimore, MD grabbing the holeshot and the moto win. Mottley would race to a second place finish in moto number two which was good enough for the overall win. In School Boy racing action, Brad Presgraves riding out of the Martinsburg Motorsports camp took command and won both motos for the overall. Pregraves also took the O/A win in his 125C division and Brad campaigned a 450 for the first time at Mountaineer. The result? Brad went 1-2
for second overall, not bad for this West Virginia native that started last season still on an 85cc machine. The racing was just as intense in the expert divisions. 125 A racing action saw Twigg Cycles Jeremy Cook head back to PA with the win and in the 250 A division, Ridersville Cycles Ryan Jones battled with Chad Wages and again Jeremy Cook to keep the win south of the border. The Mason Dixon Riding Association is attracting riders from all over the region. The gates are full at each and every round and the year end payouts are second to none. On top of all that, this year’s series is attracting a ton of local sponsors as well as industry giants, MSR and Answer Racing. If you’re looking for a great series to race, you may want to check this one out. Log onto their website at www.masondixonriding.com.
Ethan Bowlin wins two 50cc classes while getting ready for the Amateur Nationals.
The College Boy division kicked off Round #3 at Mountaineer. Dustin Mottley (132) goes on for the win.

Where were you a quarter of a century ago? Ronald Reagan was President, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” premiered in movie theaters, and the space shuttle launched for the first time. And Kawasaki founded its amateur trackside support program known as Team Green. These moments in time provide opportunities to reflect, as well as to look forward while commemorating this significant occasion for the Kawasaki “family.” To mark this special milestone, Team Green is requesting information from all Team Green riders and staff - past and present - describing their racing and lifestyle. Kawasaki is extremely gratified that so many racers and their families have enjoyed their experience with Team Green; they are offering a special gift to all who participate in the gathering of historical information. Kawasaki is also extending an invitation to all former Team Green riders and staff to join them at Team Green’s 25th Anniversary Celebration at the AMA Amateur National Championships, August 1-5 at Loretta Lynn’s ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. To confirm your participation either by providing historical information or attending the celebration, please contact Kawasaki at (949) 770-0400, ext. 2226, or you can send an e-mail to teamgreen.rider@kmc-usa.com. Please put “25 years” in the subject line. Deadline for sending information and attendance confirmation is July 1st. As always, Kawasaki extends a sincere thanks to all riders and staff for their continuing loyalty and support of Team Green and encourages everyone

sleepy hollow motocross D-6 ATV Points • May 7, 2006 • By MRA
Matthew Melhorn goes 2-1 for the O/A in the 85cc 12-13 group.
The turn out was great and the first group to the gate was the Vet 30+ class. Series point’s leader Dennis Rinehimer took both moto wins for the overall. In the Open B division two groups were necessary plus a last chance qualifier even with the addition of the C class, which attracted 20 riders. Check the results here in MRA. And in youth quad racing Colby Brake took the 90cc production automatic win with David Nevrotski grabbing the 70cc win. Of course you had the full group
Round # 3 of the District 6 ATV Ch a m p i o n s h i p Points Series comes to Sleepy Hollow’s new for 2006 Quad Track. This event was held on a Saturday with Round # 4 of the series being held at the Dutchmen Sleepy Hollow stepped up and offered a the following day. Open C class for the first time ever. Quad racers from around the region took advantage of the close proximity of the of mini cycle racers present two facilities and the back to back schedule. which also share the new quad New at Sleepy for this event was an Open C track. I guess you could call it Quad division. This is not a class recognized an even swap. The little guys by the district and no points were offered, but had to give up the name for the Sleepy has heard the call from the racers quad guys. I remember when and they stepped up to the plate to give it Sleepy used to call it the mini track (it’s now called the “Quad a whirl.
Track”), and that’s exactly what it was, mini. You guy’s made out, you had to give up the name but you now get to ride on a really cool track, sounds fair to me. Today’s event was sponsored by Fly Racing Gear, and yes there were big bikes too. Every Sleepy event races quads and little guys on the “Quad Track” and all D6 recognized classes (plus a few) on their main course which is home to the now famous Bonzai.
Fly Racing was today’s race sponsor.
Fly Racing’s Nick Desiderio wins Junior Mini and 85 (7-11).
School Boy racing action. Nicholas Finelli (49f) sweeps the division for the win.

mason dixon motor madness Delta Short Track • April 29, 2006 • By Len & Ben Breech
Lynch Lassoes Pair at Delta ST By Len & Ben Breech DELTA, PA. APRIL 29, 2006 A National number, either current or former, was virtually required to gain a starting spot in the three main finals at the opening short track at the Mason Dixon Fairgrounds. Paul Lynch put his Fredericktown Yamaha in front to claim the Open Stock framed A and Sportsman finals, while Raun Wood grabbed the lead
Dylan Almony wins two 50cc classes at Mason Dixon. in the final event, Open Modified framed A, with Lynch taking third. The fairgrounds were jammed with over 230 entries, with some classes running four heats. With no major pro races running, almost every national number in the mid Atlantic area showed up, giving the younger A riders a good lesson on going fast. In the Stock framed A, Lynch took the lead out of two from Garth Bastian, Donnie Mullen, Wood and Jake Johnson. By the third lap, Mullen, Wood and Johnson were running under a blanket for second, with Bastian back to fifth. With the battle for second, Lynch managed to put several lengths on the others by the end. The Sportsman was similar for Lynch, with Johnson, Jason Isennock and Shawn Baer following. Lynch again pulled away as Johnson and Isennock banged away over second. In the late laps, Isennock took second entering one, but drifted high, letting Johnson back in second. In the Open A Modified frame, Lynch started on the outside, with Wood on the pole. From there he shot his Scott Powersports sponsored Honda into the lead, followed by Isennock, Johnson, Lynch and Mullen. On the fifth lap, Johnson slipped slightly off the groove, letting Lynch and Mullen past. Wood stayed a constant five yard cushion to the end. Roy Miller must have had a feeling of being chased by a ghost from his past in the 30 + final. He took the lead from Gary Foard, Ace Phillips, Dave Smith and Chris Hathaway. Foard fell on the second lap and Phillips, riding Miller’s older DR-Z based Suzuki moved up to challenge Miller for the lead. Over the last half of the race Phillips tried to get by on the
outside, but Miller held the inside line to win by a length. Dylan Almony unveiled a new machine to compete in the 50 classes and took a pair of wins in similar in the 50 Oil Injected and 50 (4-6) classes. In both finals, he jumped out to a large margin before the first turn. Chase Smith and Kyle McGrane followed, but McGrane took second by the third turn. Almony kept about a fifteen yard margin to the end. In the 4-6 class, he again grabbed a large lead over Smith, Cameron Smith and Devin Owens. Chase stayed close the entire way, while Owens stayed right behind Cameron the entire distance. Cameron Smith came back and battled with Greg Ey for the 50 four stroke class. Ey took the lead at the start of the fifth lap, with Smith hounding him. But Smith just nipped him at the line for the win. Ryan Varnes again took the 50 (7-8) final, with Jeremiah Snow taking advantage of leader Joey Schmidt’s stalling late in the race. Schmidt didn’t stall in the 85 (7-11) final, winning that class. Matthew Langrehr took the 85 (12-15) final. Haden Avery took the 125 final, with Sam Wiggins topping the 250 B class. Jarrett Rhoads won the Open B Modified frame, with Cory Strickler emerging on top of the Open B Stock framed.
Scott Powersports Raun Wood takes the checkers in the Open Mod A final. Scott Saunders won the 100 Adult, with Dave Smith winning the 40 + and R. J. Hart took first in the 750 class and Ryan Henderson won the 500 2 Valve.

DOUBLIN gAP MX PARK
D6 Ultimate MX Series, • May 14, 2006 • By MRA Round # 3 of the District 6 Ultimate MX Championship Series found itself at Doublin Gap MX Park just outside of Shippensburg, PA. This years Ultimate Series has been restricted to D6 tracks only in the hopes of finding true D6 champions. Each track in the district will receive two rounds with racers having to compete at least once at each facility to be eligible for year end points. Select rounds have double points while yet others offer up factory contingency monies. Mother Nature made a brief attempt at putting a halt to the day’s festivities. Heavy rain was in the forecast and most likely scared quite a few racers away. The spoils came to the one’s that took a chance and showed up to race. The rain ended just before practice began and shortly into the first few motos the track became a gem. The day started off with the Four Stroke Open and the 250 C classes staggered at the gate. Kawasaki pilot Addison Kramer
was the first man to the first turn in this moto and Kramer raced on to the win. Things would be different in the second round with Toy Techs Shelby Reitz putting in an impressive 2-1 day for first overall. In the 250 C group, James White from Baltimore, MD would sweep the class in both motos. In 250 expert racing action, Adam Blessing was back on the scene after an early season injury slowed him down. Blessing was in the mix with West Shore Suzuki’s Willy Toth and RRP’s Ty Wallace. In both motos Toth would track down Wallace for the win with Blessing finishing a solid third. In the 125 division, Blessing and Toth would battle again with Toth coming out victorious. In the mini ranks, Triangle Racings Jordan Walker was on fire winning four motos and PDL racings Kameron Page was equally impressive. The Balkovic brothers worked the younger divisions with Jarek winning 65cc 7-9 and Joe winning 50cc 7-8. Jessica Smith took the win in the Women’s division.
Toy Techs Shelby Reitz (711) holeshots the 4 Stroke Open class and races to the win.

AMA SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS LEADER DOUG HENRY DEBUTS HIS SUPERMOTO SCHOOL AT OAKLAND VALLEY RACE PARK
Photos By: Jim McDermott
5/9/06, Cuddebackville, NY: Current AMA Supermoto Championship Series Points leader and Motocross Hall of Famer Doug Henry conducted his first ever Supermoto School sponsored by Yamaha, Dunlop, Monster Energy Drinks, Aim Sports, and Scott Goggles at Oakland Valley Race Park in Cuddebackville, NY this past weekend. Oakland Valley Race Park is the east coast’s premier karting and supermoto facility with a Doug Henry personally designed supermoto dirt section.
Although Henry had declined many opportunities to teach over the years, the timing, and the venue, was finally ideal. “Craig DeMaio who is the Director of Competition at OVRP was really enthused about doing the school, and handled many of the organizational logistics, promotion, and marketing so I could focus on putting together a good teaching program,” said Henry. The school, which sold out within two weeks of being announced, was tailored to provide an exclusive, personalized experience, and was limited to just about 20 students. Henry began the morning with a track walk, emphasizing the importance of the proper racing line. The day progressed with race start and braking drills, techniques for “backing it in”, body positioning, and mastering the dirt sections. After each discussion, riders headed to the track to hone their skills, while Henry rode his Graves Yamaha YZ 450 amongst the pack to observe how the techniques were being applied. Henry fielded a steady flow of questions from riders with a wide variety of skill levels. “It was really thrilling for me to see students improve over the day as they applied the techniques,” said Doug. “Even though I win races, after 3 years, I’ still consider myself a beginner at Supermoto. Most motorcycling takes years of practice before you master it. It’s tremendously rewarding to interact with students and share the questions.”
Riders were served a catered lunch, and there was a cooler full of Monster Energy drinks handy to keep everyone properly hydrated. Goodie bags were given to all students, with deep discount vouchers for products from Dunlop, Aim, and Scott, as well as some Yamaha/Doug Henry swag. “OVRP is my home track, and this was a winning situation for everyone. We had great support from my sponsors Yamaha, Dunlop, Monster, AIM and Scott,” stated Henry. Oakland Valley Race Park, which has been a dedicated karting facility since the 1960s, has made a major commitment to Supermoto, recently adding a Doug Henry designed dirt section for the motards. “OVRP’s has been the premier karting facility on the east coast for some time. Now we want to do the same for Supermoto,” said OVRP Director of Competition Craig DeMaio. “In addition to the new SM dirt section, we have Cycle Performance of Litchfield CT, Motostrano.com, Help Me Ride, Spectro Oils, Vanson Leathers, Leo Vince USA, SuperMotard Magazine, and AdvancedPerforManceAccessories.com as our Nasmoto Northeast Championship Series sponsors, plus Yamaha has dedicated contingency money for the series, which we are hugely grateful for. Furthermore, Doug Henry is so down to earth and easy to work with - we support him 100% and hope to have the Doug Henry Supermoto School here as long as he’s interested in doing it.”
Henry summarized, saying “Supermoto as a sport is growing, and OVRP is growing with as well as helping to grow supermoto. OVRP is ahead of the curve, which is a great place to be, and it’s great to be here with them.” The next Doug Henry Supermoto School at Oakland Valley Race Park is scheduled for Friday, July 14, 2006. For complete information on all of Oakland Valley Race Park’s supermoto activities and the Doug Henry Supermoto School please visit their web site at http://www.OVRP.com
letter to the editor Submitted by Wayne Sody
We’re almost to the halfway point of the year, and I hope everyone is having a wonderful racing experience, both two wheels and four wheels. To some this is the turning point, when the going gets tough the tough get going. But this letter is going to be devoted to a much larger scene in racing, THE NATIONALS ARE COMING. We have already had one national event take place. That was the quad national at BUDDS CREEK on the first weekend in April. I’m sorry I missed that one. From what I heard there was some unbelievable racing and some head turning lap times. The next FMF National MX Championship is Fathers Day weekend June 16-18 at BUDDS CREEK, followed by The Parts Unlimited Wisp Suzuki GNCC located in McHenry, MD. The AMA National Hare Scrambles Series at Rausch Creek Motorsports in Tremont, PA., is on July 23rd. Dirt Track comes to us via the AMA FORD QUALITY CHECKERED FLAT TRACK CHAMPONSHIP on July 29th at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD. Last but not least is a double header AMA Superbike Championship Race the weekend of August 18-20 at Virginia International Speedway in Alton, VA. This, ladies and gentlemen, is not only the national spot light on the riders, but on us as a supportive community. There’ll be nationally televised coverage from both ESPN and Clear Channel. It’s our time to dress up and put on a show for the rest of the world to view. Let’s show everyone that we’re the best and most fanatic fans this sport has to offer. Whether you’re a District 6, District 7, MDRA, MAMA, ECEA, or an Abate member, let’s get out and support these events. INVITE YOUR BROTHER AND SISTER, NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR, SIGNIFICANT OTHER, WIFE, FAMILY, WHY NOT INVITE THE ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD. Let’s not forget the unbelievable advantage we have that these events are in our own back yard. We have to so-called fill the stands so that these events will not leave our area. Every promoter and nationally recognized racing organization [AMA] looks at attendance as one of its deciding factors. NASCAR doesn’t tolerate half filled stands at its races. Also, it’s SHOW TIME!!!!! If you’re a Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagle, Baltimore Raven, Washington Redskin fan, then you know what it is to dress up for the occasion. In New Orleans, LA [Mardi gras], or Rio de Janeiro, Brazil [Carnival] the participants spend all year planning what to wear on their special day. These are the two biggest parties in the world. Let’s not be outdone. Let’s decorate the motor homes, dress up the vans and pickup trucks and make a statement. Get a group together and dye your hair Kawasaki green, Yamaha blue, Honda red, and or KTM orange. All you young bucks can paint your chests like they do at the football and baseball games. Ladies, I’m leaving you out on that last one, find a bonnet or some strange hat to wear. Be original. Let’s make a statement that we’re the number one fans of our favorite rider or team. There are a lot of new teams out there, with sponsors sinking big money into our sport. We need to make a statement recognizing their efforts. They need recognition. We as fans need to show these new sponsors that they are making an impression on us and that we’re supporting their riders and products. All you young riders, you’re not to be forgotten. Find someone with some artistic ability and make signs, paint bed sheets, or just be different. Root for your favorite team and rider. Invite the school band or choir. In Europe, at English football or rugby games, the crowd sings to raise their emotions and energies. Opposing crowds will taunt each others team with different versus, Heck, lets start a wave that will go all the way around BUDDS CREEK on Fathers Day. We’ll have plenty of local photographers there from our area. Maybe we’ll give out best dressed, most original dress, best blooper, best sign, most original sign, best act at our year end banquet. In other words you’ll get some kind of recognition for your efforts. ONE VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER: All dresses, signs, parties, songs, displays of emotion must be law abiding, non-offensive and in good taste. There will be persons of all ages from one year old to eighty years old in attendance. Artistically original doesn’t mean offensive. The Father’s Day FMF sponsored National MX Championship will most likely be attended by officials from the FIM [Federation International Motorcycle]? They will be viewing our performance as a prelude to the Motocross Des Nations at BUDDS CREEK in September 2007. So, let’s give them something positive to take back across the pond to Europe to talk about; that Maryland, Virginia, DC, West Virginia, Delaware, and Pennsylvania have the best race fans around. So instead of my normal: keep your feet on the pegs, go fast, and take chances phrase, Lets try: put something between your ears, keep the wheels turning, and produce something original. See ya at the races!!!!
OLN TELEVISION SCHEDULE 2006 AMA TOYOTA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY FMF
Event Date
PDL Racings Casey Clark from Pine Grove, PA finishes 19th O/A to open up the MX Nationals at Hangtown. Cycle News Online By Kit Palmer May 21, 2006 James Stewart put the skids to Ricky Carmichael’s 27-race win streak at the opening round of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Series on a wet and rainy day in Sacramento, California. Stewart came from behind and passed race leader Chad Reed on the last lap to win the first moto, while Reed hung on to second and Carmichael took third. As mentioned, the weather was less than ideal, as a steady drizzle kept the track slick and rutted. Carmichael took the holeshot in the first moto but slid out just past the first turn and spent most of the race coming up through the pack. Stewart also fell on the first lap, and the two hooked up in the middle of the field and battled back up to the front. Stewart and Carmichael traded positions a couple of times before Stewart broke away from a goggle-less Carmichael and caught Reed in dramatic fashion. In the second moto, Carmichael again got the holeshot but, this time, never let go. The defending champ opened up a big lead and was never challenged. Stewart got a so-so start but quickly got into second, however, Carmichael had already checked out, and Stewart had no chance of catching the fleeing Suzuki rider.
Call Re-Active for ALL your Engine, Suspension and Parts needs!
But Stewart didn’t need to take the moto win to get the overall, as his 1-2 bettered Carmichael’s 3-1 for the Hangtown win, his first in the Motocross class. Reed ended up going 3-3 for third overall. The Lites class was dominated by Red Bull KTM’s Mike Alessi who won both motos. In the first moto, Alessi nailed the holeshot ahead of Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto and managed to keep him at bay through out the race. Villopoto ran about three or four seconds back for most of the race but dropped back further when he crashed on the last lap. Villopoto held on to finish second ahead of Josh Grant. For Alessi, the second moto went much the same as the first, though he didn’t get the holeshot, which, instead went to Grant, but Grant went down on the first lap, handing the lead over to Alessi, who inherited a small lead over Yamaha of Troy’s Bret Metcalfe. Alessi maintained the lead over Metcalfe, who kept the pressure on Alessi through out the race. Villopoto, meanwhile, had problems on the first lap and spent the rest of the race battling through the pack. Metcalfe ended up finishing second overall with 5-2 moto finishes. Andrew McFarlane made it two Yamaha of Troy riders on the podium at the end of the day. The former GP star went 4-3 for third overall.

Normal Semi-Pro Race • May 7, 2006 • By Scott Lukaitis • lukaitisphoto.com For the first time this season nice weather treated the racers in attendance at Raceway Park. Every race so far this season has had some form of precipitation but Sunday brought sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 60’s.
Pete Devlin wins both 250 B and College Boy. In 85cc 12-13 class action Rossini Racing Products sponsored Larry McVay put his Suzuki out front early and never relinquished his lead. Behind McVay in the first moto there was a three way battle between 661/Scott goggles sponsored Chris Duymich, Action Yamaha/Dragon goggles backed Damian Krause and NY motorcycle Kawasaki rider Austin Harvey. The trio went at it the entire moto swapping positions with Krause taking second and Duymich in third. The second moto again was a McVay runaway followed
Rob Quinn doubles up to win both 25+ and 30+ A.
by Krause in second and Mt Holly Suzuki sponsored Morgan Gustray in third. McVay won the overall followed by Krause and then Duymich. With the large number of 125 Novice riders in attendance qualifiers had to be run to determine the second moto. In qualifier number one, Diggin racing sponsored Mike Lacerenza put his Kawasaki out front early and started to run away from the pack. Behind Lacerenza was Mt Holly Suzuki rider Jason Gourley and Tom Scott. Michael Voorhees and Carl Carmella joined the chase for Lacerenza to no avail. Lacerenza took the win followed by Voorhees and Carmella. In the second qualifier Suzuki rider Nick Myers jumped out to an early lead followed by Charles Sherby and Tyler Golding. Fairway Honda sponsored Sherby went on for the win followed by Golding and Yamaha rider James Henshaw. The final saw first qualifier winner Mike Lacerenza again out front running away from the field. Sherby kept him in sight but couldn’t make the pass by the time the checkered flag fell. Lacerenza took the moto and overall win followed by Sherby for second and Nick Myers in third. Third overall by virtue of 2-4 motos was Michael Voorhees.
Victor Palmieri takes the checkers in Vet B racing action.
Matt Gahrmann is your 65cc (10-11) champ.

Stevie’s first motocross race By Jim Bull
Chapter 3 “Are you ready?” Stevie’s dad asked him as he patted him on his back. “Yeah dad” Stevie said. “I’m ready.” Tom Warner backed away from the gate as the 30—second card came out. Stevie knew from being at the races, that (the gate was about to fall.) Stevie’s dad had told him, “As soon as the card gets turned sideways, keep your eyes on the gate.” And that’s exactly what Stevie did. He looked down with his stomach all twisted up in knots, and within seconds the gate began to drop. To Stevie, it seemed like slow motion. He had waited so long for this moment, and all of a sudden, it was here. The gate hit the ground with a thud, and Stevie twisted the throttle. He could see Davey Delong out of the corner of his eye starting to pull away towards the first corner. Stevie yelled, “Oh no, you don’t!” and got on the gas even harder. Stevie’s dad patted him on the back as he told him what a great job he had done. Jane Miller was just as excited that Stevie had done so well in his first race. “But dad, I only got 5th,” cried Stevie. “You win almost every week!” Tom Warner smiled as he began another life lesson with his youngest son. “Stevie”, he said, “I raced for three whole years before I got a 5th place finish.” “Really, Dad?” Stevie replied. “You bet son. You did fantastic. Now let’s go get the bike ready for your next race.” That night, as the Warners were driving home, Stevie lay sound asleep in the back bedroom of the motor home. Jane Warner said to her husband, “I bet he hasn’t slept this well in days”. “You’re right,” replied Stevie’s dad. Stevie had done exceptionally well for his first race. In his second moto of the

day, Stevie finished second behind Davey Delong for a second overall finish for the day. He had won a trophy that was three feet tall, but most of all, he had proved to himself that he truly was part of the Warner racing team. The End.
