ATV / Motorcycle Use Under Attack

In This Issue

of Motorcycle Racing Action

Carroll County, MD is about to unreasonably restrict recreational ATV and Motorcycle use. A recreational rider will not be permitted to ride closer than 400 feet from their property line on a “path” or “trail”. A property owner will need Board of Zoning Appeals approval to ride an ATV / Motorcycle 400 feet inside their property line on a “path” or “trail” after proving that the use will not affect the “quantity” or “quality” of ground water and may be required to submit an environmental impact study and landscape screening. Speak up now or you won’t ride in the future. Please check out www.carrollcountylandowners.net.

D-6 Championship Pts.- Pagoda MX, Sept. 26, 2004 – By Jim Bull . . . . . 8-9

Hello Race Fans! Happy Turkey Day everybody, can you believe it’s almost here? It’s a great day to be with your family, to eat way too much, to lie around and watch football all day, and especially to give thanks for all the things we have. But it’s also the beginning of the end of the race season here in D-6 for the year 2004. Yes, by the time you’re stuffing yourself with mom’s biggest and best meal of the year our race schedule will be about all used up. There is only one event left the following weekend out at the Happy Ramblers MC, and then it’s off to garage land for your bike or ATV. Unless your one of the die hards that likes to travel a little further south to race. There is the Mid-Atlantic Winter Series that runs all winter long, and even further south you can hook up with Victory Sports and compete in one of their winter series. Check for their schedules here in the pages of MRA. Maybe you’ll just head out to some of the local practice tracks and hope you don’t meet face first with the inevitable frozen tundra here in the great North East. Whatever you choose please be safe and have lots of fun. 2004 has been a great year for racing here in the area, the weather has been fairly decent and we’ve seen record turnouts at a lot of the tracks. Read on in MRA, there seems to be tons of options opening up for the 2005 season for the racer here in our neck of the woods. Stay tuned to upcoming issues for all the dirt. We would like to thank everyone for reading this year and we hope that you return for the New Year. We do have one more issue yet for 2004, but unless you are a paid subscriber or you can find one at a local advertising dealer, you’re probably going to miss out. Remember we can only grow with your help. If you can afford the $11.00 for a subscription, please do so. It allows the paper to get bigger and that means we can feature more riders. And please support the advertisers in these pages; they are the ones that really make a difference to the sport. Without their support we would all be in trouble. Log onto www.mcracingaction.com to order your home delivery subscription or to purchase that photo of your favorite racer. The holidays are coming and MRA Photos are great for gifts, awards and resumes. Thanks to all and we’ll see you at the races.

HOLESHOT HOTSHOT Rider:

Travis Wotring Event: Sleepy Hollow MX Hometown: Zionsville, PA Age: 5 yrs. Ride: LEM 50 District#: 31 Experience: 1st Year Racing, 3 Years Riding Class: 50 Stock ATV 4-6 Hobbies: Bicycling, Playstation Sponsors: Poppy Wotring, Blackmans Cycle Thanks To: CMS Racing Engines, Hartzel’s Welding, Fab-Tech Welding, Ace Machine, Daves Interior Restoration and the Herdan Corporation MRA would like to feature Travis Wotring as this months Holeshot Hotshot. We caught up with Travis at Sleepy Hollow last month on the big track, not the youth track that he’s used to racing on. Sleepy Hollow ran a youth appreciation day in early October and moved all of the youth classes up to their main course. What a challenge for a 50cc ATV, the start at Sleepys big track is pretty long and young Travis clamped on the throttle when the gate dropped and pulled not one, but two holeshots on the day. Travis is currently running in 5th place overall in the track points at Sleepy. Quite an accomplishment for this racer that just turned 5 years old in early September. Travis grabbed the holeshot on this day and was able to race to both moto wins for the overall. You should have seen the air he was catching on the spectator table top. Watch out for this young man in the future, from what I saw on this day, Travis will be ready for just about anything that gets thrown his way. Congratulations to Travis on his win, and watch out next month. You just might be the next MRA Holeshot Hotshot. Jim Bull – MRA

HareScramble HOTSHOT Event: BP State & D-6 Hare Scramble Series Rider:

Derrec Robinson Hometown: Orwigsburg, PA Age: 7 yrs. Race #: 21 Experience: Racing 4 years Class: 51-70cc Production Quad 6-11 Hobbies: Football, Freestyle BMX Sponsors: Schuylkill Sand Blasting, Walborn Insurance, Bowers Motorcycle Supplies, Schaeffer’s Harley Davidson, Wayne Smith Enterprises MRA would like to feature Derrec Robinson as this months Hare Scramble Hotshot. We’ve been wanting to feature Derrec for quite some time now because of his outstanding performance as a racer and because of the story behind the racer. Lets talk about his performance. In 2004 Derrec is currently first in D-6 points in his class, second in the PA State Series and first at both the Foot Of Mountain and the Flying Dutchmen. Now for the rest of the story, as another famous journalist might say. In 2003, Derrec was given the Sportsman of the Year award. He finished second in the District and third in the State Series, all after having to sit out eight races. Why the lay off you ask? Well, Derrec was racing in the 6-11 age group as a five year old. And there is a rule somewhere that says a 5 year old isn’t allowed to beat 6-11 year olds. Derrec got protested for being too young and he was not allowed to compete in the class until he turned 6. Derrec served his suspension, then came back and served his competition a big dose of what he had to offer and the rest is history. Just my prediction, look out Chris Borich, if you’re still around when Mr. Robinson turns like 10, you better turn on the afterburners. And watch out next month racers, you just might be the next MRA Hare Scramble Hotshot. Jim Bull MRA

The following is a Press Release from Rod Yentzer of Doublin Gap MX Dear Fellow Racer and Motocross Families, The following tracks are proud to announce that they have joined together to start a new series in Maryland and Southern PA. The tracks are as follows: Doublin Gap, Happy Ramblers, Mountaineer, Tomahawk, Blue Diamond, and The Landing. We, the tracks, regret to inform our fellow racers that we will no longer be part of the District 7 series or the sanctioning body of District 7. At the October meeting the above tracks where forced to leave the district

At that time the tracks decided to stick together and start their own organization. The tracks listed above will start their own Riders Club in 2005 and will not require any rider to have a District 7 card. The riders will be required to purchase a card that would allow them to participate in racing at any of the tracks listed above. We will continue to offer awards at each race and an excellent expert payback as we have done in the past. We are excited about this new concept of promoting races and we hope you will join all of the tracks listed above for some very exciting events in the year 2005! ! ! We will use the monies collected from the card sales for overall awards and expert payback at the end of the season. We will have a banquet/ fun day at one of the tracks to distribute these awards. The Fun Day will consist of organized riding time and the awards presentation. This letter is just to inform you, the riders, what is happening around you. We, the tracks, want the best for the riders, and we will be working hard as a group to make racing better and more fun in our area! Please pay attention over the next few weeks as there will be a lot of changes coming. We will have our applications to join this group and all the classes we will be offering, rules, race dates, overall awards and payouts completed in the weeks to come. We went out on a limb to protect your riding areas and our tracks. Please don’t take this lightly, we are going to make all this happen so that the racing in our area will grow and become something any rider in our group will be proud to be part of. Don’t be in a hurry to buy your District 7 card as you may not need one. Watch for our mailer and keep an eye on the track web sites for future information!

to protect the rider’s right to have places to ride in the future. We were being forced by the district to only hold one point’s race in the year 2005. District 7 was more interested in the clubs that do not have tracks holding points races than they were in working with the above tracks. However, in the process, they where ignoring the fact that one points race per track would put some of the tracks in financial ruins and cause them to close their doors!!

Piston Poppers TT Scramble September 19, 2004

The Eastern Pennsylvania Piston Poppers hosted their third round of the 2004 season under sunny skies just days after Hurricane Ivan devastated the east coast of the United States with massive flooding from Florida to New York and back again. Two thumbs up to the club members from the Piston Poppers for getting their course in such great condition on such short notice. It was to no surprise, these folks have plenty of experience at prepping a race track. The club is in its 52nd year so it’s no wonder they host great events year after year. As a matter of fact, if you were not from the area, you would have never knew that it had rained recently. The TT course got so dusty half way thru the day, if you didn’t get out in front early your chances were slim to none at getting to the front of the pack. This didn’t stop the 162 riders that showed up for the day from giving it their best effort. The racing was fast and intense as the different divisions worked their way thru their heat races and in to the main events. Perry Phillips was the big winner in the Expert divisions for the day. Phillips took the Vet and 450 A wins with a second in the Open A group. Richard Heverly took two wins on the day in the amateur divisions, grabbing the checkers in both the 450 and Open B classes, with Joe Savion Terry had a great Bromley pulling down the win in the 40 + showing, placing 2nd in race.

D-6 Championship Points Pagoda MX September 26, 2004

5th Annual Peifer Memorial and Mini Track Appreciation Day Round # 17 – District 6 Championship Points Series By Jim Bull Mild temperatures and overcast but dry skies greeted the 100’s of racers to Pagoda MC for the first fall MX race of the year. It was a special day for both young and old alike. For starters this event was a championship points paying race in D-6. Racers competed for valuable district points to be applied towards the year end championship awards and for the bragging rights to see who is best in class for the year 2004. This event was also a memorial race to the late Donald Peifer. Mr. Peifer was a local business owner that has helped the Pagoda MC Club with various efforts over the years, he was especially fond of the Mini Program and he loved the kids. Each year since his passing his family makes some sort of donation on this special day for the young racers at Pagoda. This year each youth racer was awarded a special t-shirt for their participation. The racing was fast and furious down on the mini track on this day; some of the victors included the likes of Kyle Watkins, Wyatt Barto and Zachery Harnish in the 50cc divisions. Anthony Miller took the checkers in the XR 80 class and Justin Campbell went 3-1 in the TTR 90 group for the come back win. If you’ve never checked out the action on the mini course take a few minutes the next time you’re at Pagoda to cheer on our future champions. The track is located in the far back corner of the facility down over the hill. In big track action there was a three way battle all day long in the Expert classes. Bromley Suzuki’s Barry Carsten was on hand to do battle with RRP’s Jeremy Cook and Damian Plotts. RRP was one of todays race sponsors and his team was out in full force. All three riders would end up with the top podium spot in various divisions with Carsten winning the 125 A overall and Cook grabbing the 250 A win. Until it was all over, Carsten would win the 30+ A over Jim Mcilvaine and Plotts would take the checkers in an over 25 battle with, you guessed it, again Mcilvaine. In amateur action, Adam Blessing dominated the C classes winning both the 125 and 250 divisions. Another NJ rider, Jesse Festenstine ran away with the College Boy race and Frankie Lettieri won three mini divisions coming off a spectacular performance at this years RM Cup. If you missed todays racing action at Pagoda, don’t frown. 2005 will be packed full of another exciting season of motocross racing. Keep reading MRA for their upcoming schedule and you can check their website as well at www.pagodamotorcycleclub.com . The action will be hot so load up your race bike and head on over. Make sure you bring your family and friends, Pagoda is one of the best tracks in the district for spectators and the food is great. Also, check out photos from todays event on the web at www.mcracingaction.com and be sure to pick up the next issue of Motorcycle Racing Action to catch up with all of the racing action in and around the area.

Jesse Festenstine (9f) battles Cody Graybill (62) in the College Boy start. Festenstine would take the win.

Pagoda Results

Ken Weiner is your 25+ B champ.

Kyle Watkins races his Yamaha to the win in the 50cc (4-6) Oil Division.

These three guys brought more action to Pagoda today than all three Presidential Debates put together. Plotts (66) wins the 25+A, Carsten (96) 125A and Vet A, and Cook (360) takes 250 A. Wow!!!

The Z-Start Auto Clutch from Rekluse Motorsports By Jason Hughes

Racing ATV’s is like racing anything else. Everyone is looking for an advantage out on the track! Well I think I found one. I just wish I had the only one in existence. That’s the first thought that crossed my mind the day that I installed my Rekluse Z-Start Auto Clutch. I was asked to test some products for a new sponsor Kimmets Extreme Sports. Kimmets is located just south of Lancaster PA. They specialize in everything from gear to parts and cater to all enthusiasts from mountain bikers, skateborders, BMX racers, superbikes, trials and yes even ATV racers. Kimmets Extreme Sports and Boise, Idaho based Rekluse Motorsports got together and supplied me with the Z-Start system for my Yamaha YFZ450. Let me start by explaining a little bit about the product and answering a few question I know you are all wondering about. Basically, the Z-Start acts as your clutch hand allowing you to focus more on the trail and more importantly your grip. When the engine is running, simply drop it into gear with out pulling in the clutch. When you give it throttle and raise the RPM’s the centrifugal pressure engages the clutch and the bike takes off just like your letting the clutch out yourself! Now here’s the fun part, while your moving you can grab the back brake slide the tires to a stop and it won’t stall. If you happen to be in second gear and should maybe be in first, there’s no need to down shift or reach for the clutch, the Z-Start feathers the clutch for you while working to minimize clutch wear at the same time. The Rekluse Z-Start also offers a feature that no other auto clutch system has. The Z-Start external adjuster. When working with any type of auto clutch system you will become very familiar with two very important terms. Engagement rate and stall speed. These terms are nearly self explanatory. The Z-Start External adjuster allows you to adjust the RPM’s in which the clutch engages (stall speed) by simply turning the stock adjuster. You can also adjust the rate of slippage (engagement rate) by turning the Rekluse adjuster. There is also the luxury of being able to override the Z-Start by pulling the clutch in and using it like normal. Installation was a breeze, anyone who’s replaced their clutch in the past has done everything needed to install the Z-Start. There is some measuring involved, two sets of feelers gauges came in handy. First I leaned the quad on the left side so that the engine was sideways with the clutch cover up. Then I removed the quick change clutch cover to access the clutch assembly. The instructions from Rekluse were top notch, everything was explained perfectly. I removed four of the stock metal and fiber plates and replaced the metals with the Rekluse metals reusing the stock fibers. The Rekluse metals are thinner and allow clearance for the Z-Start pressure plate. I followed the instructions and installed the Rekluse bearing and spacer then the pressure plate. The Z-Start pressure plate has 30 steel and tungsten balls that lay in grooves around the plate. As the RPM’s are increased the balls are forced out by centrifugal force and this engages the clutch smoothly and efficiently. When the assembly is installed it is important to check the installed gap at the first clutch plate. If the gap is too big the clutch will not hold the correct amount of pressure on the clutches and slipping may occur. If the gap is too small the

clutch may not disengage properly and cause stalling. This gap can be adjusted by swapping the Rekluse supplied metal plates with the stock metal plates. After installation was complete I installed the cover using the supplied Rekluse spacers and we were ready for break-in. I let the engine warm up and get some heat in it several times before hitting the track. We headed out to our practice area which consists of a two mile cross country loop with a few hills, creek beds and lots of rocks. It also passes through an awesome MX track with ten different jumps including step ups, tables and decent sized doubles. It didn’t take long before I had that strange feeling like I might be cheating. After two warm up laps we let loose and started to push this thing and see what it had. Right away I noticed that I was out braking everyone on the track. I was able to grip the bars better and worry only about braking and staying on the machine, the thought of stalling or being in the right gear was gone. The next thing I noticed was the traction control. This thing hooked up everywhere, it was pulling up the front end coming out of slimy wet creek beds. The single biggest advantage I got from the Rekluse Z-Start clutch was the ability to slide into corners with out reaching for the clutch. With the new high performance 4 strokes the engines seems to be able to be stalled easier and are harder to bump or pop start into the turn than the two strokes were. On the old 250 R I was so used to racing for ten years you could slide the rear brake in most any gear and while the bike was still rolling it would easily pop start again. Now with my YFZ I can “panic brake” into any turn with out stalling or reaching for the clutch lever. Like I said earlier it makes you feel like you have a huge advantage over other racers. Unfortunately for me the Rekluse Z-Start clutch is available for purchase to everyone! It will surely be the next big bolt on that everyone needs to have. They are available for the YFZ and TRX450R and they are currently putting the finishing touches on the 400ex Z-Start system. They are available for most current dirtbike models as well. Kimmets Extreme Sports can be reached at 717-284-3098. They seem to always have a Rekluse Z-Start clutch in stock and ready to ship. Be sure to ask for Bryan Kimmet for your Extreme Sports needs.

Mini Track Appreciation Day October 2, 2004

The Swarr family, owners of Sleepy Hollow MX Park went to bat for the future stars of our sport recently. Jere and Bonnie Swarr wanted to give something back to the youth racers that have attended their track all year long. So they went to the township and asked for a variance to allow them to run one extra event in 2004. They got that variance and they held their very first “Mini Appreciation Day” at Sleepy Hollow. They took all the classes that they normally run on their youth track and all of the mini classes from the big track and combined them up top on the full size course. This was a treat for the youngsters that have never had an opportunity to ride the bonzai. Heck, half of them probably aren’t even old enough to spell the word Bonzai, let alone try to attempt the jump. The mini riders did an awesome job, it had rained hard the day prior to the event. Another hurricane or typhoon had passed thru the area and many were concerned that the little bikes might not be able to navigate the course. As usual the Sleepy crew did an awesome job in preparing the track and by the Charles Gabel handles the time practice was over, the future Big Track with ease coming home champions of our sport were victorious in the XR50 Division. powering around the big track at the Hollow like they had been doing it for years. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if you see some of these fierce warriors of MX giving the big track another go around as soon as mom and dad can get them a ride for the big course. Way to go Sleepy and Samantha Starner wins the 7-8 way to go mini racers. Stock Quad class. Jim Bull - MRA

Rookie of the Year

The following release is from AMA Pro Racing... Jared Mees, 18, of Honey Brook, Pa., is the 2004 Ricky Graham Flat Track Rookie of the Year. Mees turned in a solid first full season in the AMA Progressive Insurance Flat Track Championship ending the season ranked ninth in the final standings. The Ricky Graham Flat Track Rookie of the Year Award is just the latest in a string of major accomplishments for Mees. In 2001 he won the AMA Horizon Award, signifying Mees as the nation’s leading amateur rider. A year later a 16-year-old Mees won the Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance Series becoming the youngest ever to win that title. Now, at 18, he adds the Rookie of the Year Award to his trophy case.

Round #10 BP Promotions PA State Harescramble Series Flying Dutchmen MC • October 10, 2004

The 10th and final round of the BP Promotions P.A. State Hare Scramble Series was held at the Flying Dutchmen MC Club on a relatively dry course under bright skies in early October. Over 350 racers converged on the Dutchmen facility to do battle for the valuable series points that BP Promotions were offering toward their year end championships and end of year contingency awards. The series is sponsored in part by MSR and Answer Racing, along with local dealers and event sponsors there will be over $ 50,000.00 worth of goodies available to the participants in this year’s series. Racers, if you’re looking for a great race series to participate in next year, you gotta check this out. Not only do they give away all the great products at the year end awards banquet, there are sponsorships available depending on your performance, and this year they gave away a $ 3500.00 Suzuki Quad Runner at the final race of the year. Ted Rupp and his family from Butler, NJ trailered home a brand new Ozark 250. Cool ! I also heard a rumor that next years series may go 12 rounds, instead of the usual 10. Bp Promotions will be going into their third year and in talking to series promoter Joe Bromley, he said that they are looking at additional venues and our pursuing additional sponsors to make the 2005 Series even bigger and better. Stay tuned to the pages of MRA and keep an eye on their website, www.bppoints.com for all of the up to date information. Make sure you check out our website at www.mcracingaction.com to view complete event photos from round 10. Jim Bull MRA

Reactive Suspension By Al Carr & Andy Fleck

www.reactive-suspension.com Andy and I just recently returned from Holland where we met with some people that might be able to help us develop our own line of Shocks. Things look promising but we still have a few hurdles to clear so we'll keep you posted. Fortunately for us we were able to coincide our trip with the running of the MX Des Nations which wqs taking place the day we arrived. We arrived in Amsterdam at 8 in the morning after a 7 hour flight on which I found it impossible to sleep, from passport control we went to baggage claim where of course our bags were the last ones off the plane. I love customs in Europe, you have a red lane "something to declare" and a green lane "nothing to declare" so with nothing to declare we blazed through customs in about 2 seconds. It all evened out in the end with the slog through U.S. customs on our return though. We located the Budget rent a car booth and booked a lovely Reneault Megane. My guess is it was a 1.3 liter Diesel but with gas being nearly $5.00 a gallon that was a good thing. A friend told us to exit the airport and head for the A4, thats a motorway not an Audi. The first signs we saw said nothing about the A4 but they did say Utrecht which I vaguely remember was mentioned so we set off toward Utrecht. In many European countries there is no North South East West on the road signs like here in the States. You get to an interchange and the signs will say Utrecht left turn and Eindhoven right turn and you better know which one is to the North and which to the South. First gas station we saw we got a map which helped immensely but this thing was huge. Why such a big map for such a small country, I figured later that the scale must have been 1:1 as it seemed to take no time at all to cover a good distance on the map. Everything is measured in Kilometers so when it says Hertogenbosch (wicked city names) 60 you can be there in less than half an hour when you're cooking along at 140. I played navigator and quickly located the town of Lierop which was the venue for the MXDN. We found the Welcome center where we picked up our VIP passes, yes we are not just famous here in D-6 you know, parked the car and headed into the track. We were supposed to meet some people so we headed for the VIP lounge, notice I said lounge not tent. The level of professionalism was unbelievable. Now I've been to a lot of Nationals but this made all of them look like a local race. The VIP lounge was a tent but from inside you never would have known it. Let me paint you a picture. The tent was over 200 feet long and 60 feet wide, there were 120 tables seating 8 people, the floor was carpet over plywood base, the tables had tablecloths, cloth not plastic, real napkins (I couldn't find a paper one to blow my nose on) the ceiling was draped curtain with chandeliers for lighting. Two buffet lines with gourmet food, I had a Sea Bass in a wine sauce that was to die for, bottles of wine and an open bar. Waiters, yes waiters and attentive ones too, as soon as your glass was empty they were there asking if you would like some more and they didn't just bring a glass they brought you the whole bottle. Lounge singers, they had lounge sing-

If you have an event that you would like promoted please mail it to MRA. ers I'm thinking is this a race or a wedding. The side of the tent that faced the track was all glass and opened onto a carpeted patio with the umbrella cafe tables where you could sit and watch the first turn. This was the only part of the track you could see from the VIP area so if you wanted to watch the race action you had to go to the bother of turning your head slightly to the left to see the 50 foot TV screen set up next to the start straight which gave you full coverage of all the race action. You know, I was there and I can't believe what I'm writing. The only downside to the whole event was that there were no U.S. riders there. In a way it was embarassing, this is the Olympics of MX arguably the most important race of the year and we didn't send anyone, for crying out loud Guatamala had a team. It's times like this I wonder why we pay our dues to the AMA. It would have been so cool to see Ricky, Bubba and Kevin spank the best that Europe has to offer and they would have too because the track was a lot like Southwick and look what Ricky and Bubba did at Southwick. I talked to a lot of people who said that it would have been a much better race had the Americans been there. I couldn't explain why they weren't. I say that next year if the AMA can't be bothered to send anyone lets get together and send Ty Wallace, Damien Plotts and Barry Carsten, we might not win but these guys would do us all proud. The Europeans as a whole have a different outlook about MX especially the Dutch as it is in Holland that MX can trace its roots. I hope that someday we reach that same level and that our sport is as comAl Carr Andy Fleck pletely embraced by all levels of society as it seems to be over there. Oh and Belgium won, again.

Suzuki RM Dealers Cup

Pleasure Valley Raceway – September 18 & 19, 2004 The 10th and final RM Suzuki Dealers Cup was held at Jeff Cernics Pleasure Valley raceway in Johnstown, PA in late September of 2004. It seems only fitting to have the final year of the cup run at its birthplace, yes Pleasure Valley was the site for Suzuki’s first ever RM Cup held a decade ago. The cup was born to award Suzuki Dealers for their exceptional commitment to the grass roots racer riding on Suzuki RM’s. Jeff Cernic would be one of those dealers that I would say fits into that category. Cernic is about as committed to the sport as you can get, not only does he operate Pleasure Valley Raceway; he has two Suzuki dealerships in western Pennsylvania and is also the president of the A.M.A. District 5 racing organization there. Jeff has sponsored many top riders over the years including Travis Pastrana and current AMA Rookie of the Year, Broc Hepler. Two racers that stood out from District 6 at this years RM Cup were American Suzuki’s Casey Clark, grabbing a second place finish in the 125A division. And Frank Lettieri, the only D-6 guy to bring home a number 1 finish. Lettieri took the top spot in the 65cc 7-11 group and a third place finish in the 85cc 7-11 group. There were many others that finished in the top ten against some of the best amateur racers in the country. Special thanks go out to Jace Wade for bringing home the great shots of all our local talent and to Jeff Cernic for once again hosting this great event. If you would like to learn more about Pleasure Valley Raceway you can check out their website at: www.pleasurevalleyraceway.com and for complete results of this event go to: www.mxtransponder.com. Cobra Unleashes its Quad!

Industry braces itself for the quickest, best-performing, out-of-the crate race-ready junior quadcycle – courtesy of the company whose heritage includes producing the most successful competition minicycles of all time LOUISVILLE, Ky., (Oct. 11, 2004) – History will be made this week at the Kentucky International Convention Center’s ATV EXPO (Oct. 14-17) when Cobra Motorcycles rolls out its revolutionary, competition-ready 70cc quad cycle – the ECX70. According to officials at Cobra – the most highly decorated competition mini cycle company of all time – the ECX70 will be the first showroom floor/race-ready competition mini cycle available. Like it brethren, the legendary Cobra mini cycles that have won more than 100 National AMA Titles throughout the past decade, this rowdy little beast will be ready for the winner’s circle right out of the crate! “Our valued customers would expect nothing less from Cobra than to go from the showroom floor directly to the podium,” said Cobra President Sean Hilbert. “The world-renowned Cobra racing heritage will be passed along to the ECX70 and young athletes will experience – on four wheels – what our many champions have felt on two wheels with our seemingly world-class line of mini cycles.”

Some of the features on the new and exciting Cobra ECX70 junior quad cycle include: • • • • • •

Patent-pending chassis, designed by Arens Bros. Racing Dual A-arm front suspension featuring Fox Shox Directlink® rear suspension with fully adjustable shock Lightweight hydraulic disc brakes front and rear High output engine w/ six-speed sequential gearbox and hydraulic clutch 24mm D-slide carb coupled with a Boyesen RAD valve intake manifold

Top this off with cutting-edge styling and world-class Cobra customer support and you have an unbeatable package. “I’m really proud of what we have been able to do with this little quad,” said Hilbert. “Much like our bikes, if you take a close look you realize that there’s nothing like it on the market - not even a full size unit! Right out of the crate it has world-class suspension, braking, and engine components – stuff that drastically improves performance and would cost thousands of dollars from the aftermarket.” Hilbert continued: “We’ve been watching the competition quad market for awhile, and it’s a natural extension of our business model. Cobra’s goal is to supply the best youth competition products in the world, and the ECX70 fits squarely into that target.” Cobra will start shipping the ECX70 in March of 2005 on a first come, first serve basis, following homologation by the ATVA. Reserved production slots will be made available starting this week at the ATV EXPO. As a final note, Hilbert said – concerning the high performance nature of the ECX70 quad cycle - “As with our bikes, this product will not be for everybody. We are seeking out only the most talented kids who are experienced racers. This quad is not designed for the backyard.” Cobra, founded in 1993, produces the most successful line of competition minicycles in the United States with more than 45 national titles in the last decade. Based out of Youngstown, Ohio, Cobra's mission is to build premium power products for the serious racer. For more information on Cobra products, please visit our website at www.cobramotorcycle.com.
