West Shore Suzuki’s Bill Toth trying not to get “Caught in the Act” Stay Tuned Next Month To See Who Will Be CAUGHT IN THE ACT!

Readers log on to www.gapracing.com to see who else was “Caught in the Act”!

Hello Race Fans!

Welcome back everyone to the latest and greatest issue of MRA. It amazes me that we can continue to churn these babies out. Every month I sit down and look at a blank stack of paper and “walah” I say the magic words and out pops another 40 pager about two weeks later. Of course you all make my job very easy by providing some of the best racing action in the world and I thank you for that. Every month I look at over 2000 photos that we take and wonder, who should we put in this month? I would love to feature every racer in our area. Whether you win or whether you don’t, I bet you would look good in MRA. How about which races should we cover? We can feature about 10-12 events a month. I just typed my upcoming event schedule and there are close to 40 races coming up in the month of October. How about this one - who’s business should I plug this time around. There are many great business’ in our region that support motorcycle and ATV racing. Who should we talk about this month ? They all deserve it, but unfortunately they won’t all fit in. AH, challeges. Fortunately they get me fired up. This is the greatest sport in the world and I would like to thank you all for allowing me to participate in it in my own special way. We

will be going into our fifth season in 2006 and I owe it all to you. I remember when we bought MRA in February 2002. It was a small twelve page newsletter with two pictures on each page and usually without a caption. Thanks to all of you reading this we are now strong and can bring you the best racing action that our region has to offer. We love to hang out with you at all the tracks and just dream about being able to still do this. We plan to keep featuring races and the racers of the area. We’ll bring you schedules and tech tips and just about anything else we can fit in our pages. More importantly the promoters and business’ in our region will tell you about their services and offerings. Please be kind to them and do business with them. They are the ones that provide you the base for your sport. And one more thing if you can, please continue to support MRA. Our goal is to feature all of you and your races and the people and business’ that keep our favorite past time alive in your back yard. Support an advertiser, buy a subscription or just be friendly to the family in the pit next to you. It will go a long way and who knows, maybe next month you’ll find yourself in the pages of MRA. Until next time.

Future goals: To be a Pro racer.

The Ultimate MX Championship Series sponsored by MSR and Answer Racing has stormed into District 6 this year and along with it has come a whole new bunch of Hotshots. This month we would like to recognize Gap Racings Scott Stockunas as our most recent Ultimate MX Hotshot. Scott and his family have been following the Ultimate Series around the region and Scott has himself firmly planted in second place in two 50cc divisions in the series. Scott will no doubt finish in the second place spot in the 50cc oil division and if he listens to his trainer, Eric Sebastian and he rides his tail off he may have a chance at catching the points leader in the 50cc stock class. Either way Scott, just in his second year of racing has ultimately earned himself a Hotshot title this season. We’ve bumped into the Stockunas family at many events this year and we’ve found Scott out in the lead at many of these events. He’s great at getting holeshots and he is a consistent rider as well. Along with his sponsors and in working with Eric Sebastian of Gap Racing on a regular basis, Scott has the tools to take this thing all the way. He has a goal of someday being a pro and I believe he has what it takes to get there. I would like to wish Scott and his family the best in their future racing efforts. Keep an eye on this young man from upstate PA, my bet is that you’ll find him in the winners circle. And watch out next month, who knows, you just might end up being some type of MRA Hotshot yourself. Jim Bull MRA

Age: 13 Hometown: Glenville, PA District #: 2 Ride: KTM 85SX Class: 85 (12-15) Experience: 2nd full year racing Hobbies: I like to work on bikes. Fav. Food: Shrimp Fav. Racer: Ricky Carmichael Sponsors: Blettner Power Sports, Off Road Cycle Service, Mummert

Thanks To: Future goals: Win the State Harescramble Championship

Cody Mummert from Glenville, PA is our current Harescramble Hotshot. We caught up with Cody of all places at a MDRA MX practice session the day before a race. It was Cody’s first time on a motocross track and he caught our attention. Matter of fact Cody liked it so much he stuck around and raced the following day. Cody signed up for the highly contested 85cc (12-15) C division and ended up taking a third O/A behind the two series leaders. Now, back to Harescrambling. I remember meeting Cody at Ft. of Mountain just a few short years ago. He was competing in his first Harescramble race riding in the 85cc (7-11) class, Cody did well that day too. If I remember correctly he won that race and has not looked back since. Cody started riding when he was just a young boy but never competed until recently. In his first season he took a 4th in the district winning five races while grabbing three second place finishes. This year, his third season but only his second full year Cody has bumped up to the 12-15 year old division and currently sets in second place in the district behind last years champ Justin Frederick. We watched Cody race at Ft. of Mountain a few weeks ago over the Labor Day weekend where he again finished second behind Frederick. I’m sure this will be a battle to the end, with three rounds left in the State Series and numerous rounds left for the district title we should see some exciting racing action from these two competitors. No matter the result, Cody is definitely a Hotshot in our books. The good news for Cody is, he has two more years to compete in this division. Keep an eye on this young man from PA, he is definitely going places. And watch out next month, who knows, you just might end up being the next MRA Harescramble Hotshot. Jim Bull MRA

Happy Ramblers mc club

Round #10 • MDRA Race Series • August 28, 2005 • Photos by MRA Happy Ramblers Motorcycle Club hosted Round # 10 of the MDRA Race Series in late August at their facility in Hanover, PA. Saturday brought great weather to the crowd for their pre-race practice day. Over 200 racers showed up to take advantage of the expertly prepared Happy Ramblers course and to take part in the evening BBQ hosted by Happy Ramblers and the MDRA. Just as the evenings official festivities were beginning to end Mother Nature stepped in and a light rain began to fall on the crowd planning to stay the night. The weather did not damper the die hard MDRA members so the unofficial festivities began to take shape. There were kids having fun as kids do and parents having fun as they do. The BBQ kept flowing and the fireworks went off without a hitch. Well at least the golf cart wasn’t totally destroyed (just kidding). As the lights in the campsites went out for the evening the rain continued to fall.

As morning dawned all there could see that significant rain had fallen. The crew at Happy did an excellent job the night before with their track leaving it hard packed while digging in some drainage channels. As the riders meeting took place the club members began to scrape the mud that was left behind and by the time the first set of motos left the gate the track was in primo condition. A few racers packed up and went home but the majority stayed to race and they were left with near perfect track conditions. The point’s races continue to grow tighter in many classes and by the time you read this the remaining two rounds will be in the books. Stay tuned to MRA for the complete series results and we’ll see you at the awards banquet right back here at Happy Ramblers on October the 15th.

Moto Dog Sammy Wile is a 7 year veteran of the sport.

Derrick Wile (114) and Nicholas Mowry (307) go 1-2 respectively in both expert divisions.

Brandon Seibold (21) leads the Supermini charge.

Steven Sparks (128) leads Michael Reynolds (98) in 60cc A class racing action. The Martin boys get ready for their moto. The grilling action is always hot at a MDRA race.

Harescramble racer Cody Mummert races the MDRA and takes a third O/A. Mitch Embley and Dayton Hollingsworth mix it up in Junior Mini racing action.

Mark Gibson is back in the sport after a 27 year layoff.

Well another exciting season of AMA Pro Motocross has passed us by. Ricky Carmichael has etched another undefeated season in the record books, this time for Suzuki. The battle that we all expected and maybe even hoped for never materialized between RC and James ”Bubba” Stewart. Stewart was plagued with injuries and DNF’s all season long. The fastest of the rest of the Motocross Class was again Kevin Windham, Windham finished a solid second behind Carmichael with close to a 100 point lead over Ernie Fonseco and David Vuillemin in 4th. The closest racing action of the year was to be found in the newly named Motocross Lites Class. There are so many stars in this division and the points lead changed so many times that even the best psychic on the planet couldn’t have guessed this one. There were veteran racers, rookie

sensations, late arrivals and former National Champions all gunning for the win. In the end, “The Hype” Mike Allessi came close and as usual it was loaded with controversy. When the chips fell it was Ivan Tedesco earning himself an Outdoor National Title as well as a trip to the MX Des Nations. Can’t wait to the Supercross season starts? Me either. Who knows what’ll happen. I guess we’ll all just have to wait and see. I’d like to thank Pat Schutte with High Profile PR. Pat is the man that has gotten us on the tracks to provide the great racing action photos and Allen Gavlak of Gavlak Racing is the man behind the lens. Thanks to both of you for allowing us the opportunity. Please remember to tune in next season for more great trips to the Nationals.

There are so many stars in the Lites division… Cumberland Kawasaki’s Chris Gavlak checks out the view at Unadilla.

D6 Experts Casey Clark (161) and Jeremy Cook (360) made the big show several times this year.

The Cobra flys the 50th Anniversary Yellow and Black at Unadilla.

One of Bubba Stewarts(259) rare appearances at this years nationals. Broc Hepler had an up and down season finishing 6th overall.

Ivan Tedesco adds an outdoor championship to his resume.

“Ricky Carmichael has etched another undefeated season in the record books…” Allessi takes second in the Lites division - believe the hype.

Mike Brown started strong but lost in the end.

Kevin Windham is the fastest of the rest.

Whatever you do in life work as hard as this guy and you’ll be a winner too !!

Ft. of mountain harescramble RD#7 • PA State H.S. Series • Photos by MRA

Labor Day weekend brought Round # 7 of the BP Promotions PA State Hare Scramble Series to the Ft. of Mountain. Saturday was a rider appreciation day with a Chicken BBQ that was co – sponsored by Cycle Tech in Lewisberry, PA and a PA State H.S. special riders meeting. Joe Bromley from BP Promotions was on hand to talk with the riders to see how to make the series better for the upcoming seasons. Sunday brought some great racing action and Five Foot Trophies sponsored by Grumbines RV located in Harrisburg, PA. In morning Pee Wee action a few of your winners included Colton Smith and Walter Bond in the 50cc divisions. Landon Wolfe took home two five footers, one in the morning race in the 110 Air Cooled group and another in the youth race in the 65cc 10-11 group.

Speaking of the youth, Eric Rodgers from Dover, PA won the Supermini as well as the overall. Rodgers got out to an early lead and never looked back. The 85cc 12-15 racing action was hot too. Last years champ Justin Frederick had a 40 second lead on the second place Cody Mummert when he experienced a flat front tire. Frederick stayed on the gas and was able to hold off Mummert until the end of the race. In the afternoon Main event two men would swap the lead several times in the early laps of the race. The ECEA’s Billy King was on hand to contest D6’s Jed Haines. Haines grabbed the holeshot to start the race but King was not to be denied. It seemed each lap they came around there would be a different leader until King finally appeared pushing his bike back into the pits. I believe he got tangled up with a tree and

had done some damage to the bike. Haines went on to win easily. In ATV racing action Brian Thorson would get the 50cc win with Kenton Heinbaugh getting the checkers in the 90cc division. Chris Borich came to the Ft. of Mountain as he usually does when the Pro’s have a weekend off. Chris worked his magic and took the overall as well as the class win. The Ft. of Mountain has one event left in 2005. The date is October 16 and it is being sponsored by Kuhn Brothers Oil and Deep Run Plumbing. Check their ad elsewhere in MRA for start times, directions and contact info. Also be sure to view event photos from this and many PA State Rounds at www. mcracingaction.com.

Robbie Leese grabs a second in the 201 - Open A division.

Sunday brought some great racing action and Five Foot Trophies…

The quads were out in full force at Ft. of Mountain.

Michael Pecika wins the 201 Open B race. Kimmets Extreme Sports - Austin Findley wins the 70cc quad division.

Landon Wolfe wins two classes on the day, 110 AC and 65 (10-11).

Jed Haines (1j) grabs the holeshot to start the main event. Haines would go on to win the O/A.

flying dutchmen mc

RD#13 • D6 Championship Point Series • Photos by Jim Mucklin The Flying Dutchmen MC hosted their last motocross race of the season on Sunday September 4, 2005 during the Labor Day Weekend. The event was a District 6 Championship Points Race with manufacturers contingency and FDMC double track points and was sponsored by Lebanon Valley Cycles in Jonestown, PA. The racing action was intense in the expert divisions with local pros Casey Clark and Dustin Kendall swapping moto and overall wins in several classes. Series points leader Clint Johnson was also in the mix making the expert classes the thrill of the day. In amateur racing action Kerry Kaminskie and Phil Nicoletti put on another great show swapping wins in the 125 and 250 B divisions. The C divisions were packed with talent as well with Michael O’Brien taking the checkers in 125 C and Dan Callahan grabbing the win in the 250 group. The Dutchmen will now start pounding stakes and buy the time you read this article they will have had their first Fall Hare Scramble of the season. I’d like to thank the club members at the Dutchmen for hosting another exciting year of MX racing at their track and I would also like to thank Jim Mucklin Photography for getting out there and covering the races for us. If you raced the Dutchmen this year make sure you contact Jim at ejmucklin@adelphia.net to hook up with some great photos of yourself in action.

Michael O’Brien sweeps the 125C division. Christopher Mazzei (213) takes a 6th O/A in 4-6 oil.

shippensburg mc short track Paul Crumbling Memorial • September 4, 2005

Baer Racing Products and the Shippensburg Speedway hosted the 6th Annual Paul Crumbling Memorial Race on Labor Day Sunday, September the 4th. Paul was an avid flat track racer and owner of Pro Plates, a local business that supplied number plates to many of the factory race teams. Paul loved the Shippensburg Speedway and each year since his passing a memorial race is held there to benefit Paul’s family. This was the 6th year for the race and all of the local racers came out to support the cause for the man and his family that has given so much to this sport. Shippensburg ran their standard program along side the Crumbling Memorial Race. Heat races are held thru out the day with racers being eliminated until a final field of 12 racers makes the main. Wayne Wagner was the eventual winner of the coveted race. In other racing action, Chris Klinefelter came out on top in the Sportsman and Open A finals. Shayna Texter won both School Boy and Open B and Matt Dice won a pair of races in the ATV divisions.

Paul loved the Shippensburg Speedway…

done. TBT has many years of suspension and engine set up experience. Whether you are an amateur looking to improve your results or you hold a pro card and our chasing the AMA Supercross series TBT will have a setup that works best for you.

As most of you know another race season is almost behind us. I’m sure that 2005 like many years ahead of it has had its ups and downs for many of us in the racing community. As the months and years go by we begin to understand why we do the things we do, but more importantly we find new and better ways to make our race bikes work to the betterment of our racing careers. Many times a racer can be right there at the top of his class but might not be able to get it “Just over the Top”. No this is not psyche 101; it’s an opportunity to learn about a great MX Pro Shop in our area that just might be able to get you where you want to go. The fall and winter months are a time to get that brand new race bike, or your trusty old stead ready for the upcoming season. 2005 has been a year to find out what works and what doesn’t but a push in the right direction from an experienced professional in the field can sometimes make the difference between 1st and well, something else. Enter Kenney Motosports / TBT Racing East Coast. Located just south of Lebanon, PA off Rte. 72 and the PA Turnpike, Keeney Motosports will probably have the answers you’re looking for.

Brad Keeney is the owner of TBT East and has been in the motorcycle industry now for over 15 years. Brad is a 1990 graduate of the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix Arizona. Brad went to work after graduation at the dealership level where he gained many years of valuable experience working in both the parts and service departments of a franchised dealer. Along the way Brad formed a relationship with Travis Flateau, owner and founder of TBT Racing in Southern California. TBT Racing So Cal works with amateurs and Pro’s alike and helps them develop the engine and suspension components that work best for their individual situations. Travis liked what he saw in Brad and started contracting Brad to do his work for TBT on the East Coast. At this point, Brad decided it was time to go out on his own. With his many years of industry experience along with the backing of one of the premiere engine and suspension builders in the country Brad formed Keeney Motosports / TBT East in 2001. What can Keeney do for you? Keeney Motosports is a full blown race shop. Remember we talked earlier about how to get the job

Keeney offers parts and accessories for both you and your machine. Everything from brake levers and air filters to full blown works parts. They offer general repair service for your bike or ATV or you can get a complete suspension job and motor work. They cater to all racing genres, including motocross, off road, road race, super motard, flat track and anything else I may have forgotten to mention. Keeney Motosports / TBT East have two full time employees in addition to Brad. They are riders and racers themselves and they understand your needs. They are going into their sixth year and look forward to an opportunity to serve your needs. They are open full time Monday thru Friday and can

be reached at (717) 274-7422 or on the web at www.tbtracing.com. TBT also has divisions in the State of California and Washington and their newest location is in Brazil. Keeney is on the move and they are now accepting resumes for the 2006 race season. If you would like to work with one of the leaders in the performance race market in the country give them a call, I’m sure they will be glad to hear from you. Please check their paid advertisement elsewhere in MRA to check out a great off season offer that could save you some money and get your machine working best for you. Go fast, call Keeney. sleepy hollow motocross D6 Points • Ultimate MX Series • Photos by MRA

Sleepy Hollow MX played host to Round # 11 of the Ultimate MX Championship Series sponsored by RRP, MSR and Answer Racing, Pro Taper and Kenda Tires. This event also offered D6 Championship Points along with Factory Contingency. In addition both Premier Expert divisions offered 150% payback along with bonus bucks and holeshot money being offered by Ephrata Cycle and Sport and Motographx. ECS was the main sponsor for today’s activities, they offered one trophy for every two riders in the amateur divisions and there were t-shirts and other goodie giveaways. As usual, Sleepy had a good crowd on hand. The gates were packed and some of the fastest racers from the region showed up for a shot at the extra trophies and of course the cash. There were seventeen 250 A riders that lined up for the 20 minute + 2 lap motos to see who would go home champion on the day. In moto number one Jeremy Cook was fastest out of the hole; he was over the Bonsai first winning the Motographx Holeshot money. Everyone was after that money and many of your contenders couldn’t get on the brakes hard enough and they ended up in a huge pile up in the turn at the bottom of the jump. This allowed Cook and newly advanced expert rider, Adam Blessing to get out to a nice lead on the rest of the pack. Riders like Casey Clark, Clint Johnson and Dustin Kendall had to fight there way to the front and with the extended moto some were able to do just that. Cook cruised to the win with TBT’s Clark coming back for second and RRP’s Ty Wallace grabbing third. In the second moto it would be Clark

and Cook out in front to start the race. The battle was close with Clark leading the way for the first several laps. Cook however was on a mission and it wasn’t long before he got by on the fast uphill sweeper. Both Wallace and Kendall got into the fray with Clark and this allowed Cook to pull away. In talking with Cook after the race he said that everything has just been clicking lately. That was obvious as the fired up Sleepy crowd watched him sweep some of the best in the business. Other Labor Day racing action included Phil Nicoletti sweeping 6 motos in three amateur classes in his second race back after an early season injury. Lowell Spangler showed up and won three classes including the intermission Pit Bike Race. Speaking of Pit Bikes, please remember that Motographx plan to give a few away this upcoming season. And the hi lite of the day was some fashion nut on a 2009 Factory Suzuki complete with afterburner taking on a six wheeled buggy dragging a Vet A guy around the track on a sled in the mechanics race. Sorry if you missed it.

As usual, Sleepy had a good crowd on hand. Stephen Morrelli (14) and Drey Boddie (118) do battle in Supermini racing action.

Ty Wallace back in action wins 25+ and 30+ A.

ECS Honda along with Motographx sponsored todays race.

Phil Nicoletti coming off an early season injury wins 6 motos at Sleepy sweeping School Boy, 125 & 250 B.

Brandon Williams goes 1-2 for the overall 250 C win.

Somebody please tell this guy about MXSPONSOR.COM

Up and comer Russel Steele from Browns Mills, NJ.

John Sheaffer launches his KTM to victory in the 50 stock 7-8 division. Twigg Cycles Jeremy Cook was on fire sweeping both 20 minute + 2 lap 250 A motos.

Conti RX50 hold numerous titles in Europe and now they’re ready to do it in the USA.

Tech Tips

Most racers put their focus toward making their bike go faster, but going fast also means being able to stop fast too. Here are a few tips: I’ve seen many riders in distress with a bent brake rotor. Most of them did not realize how easy it sometimes could be to fix the problem. Most bent rotors can be straightened very quickly and easily. Most times it’s not even necessary to remove the wheel. I like to use an adjustable wrench placed on the rotor rather than a pair of pliers or vice grips because the smooth surface of the jaws of the wrench won’t mar the surface of the rotor. Simply bend the rotor back into shape, gradually working your way around the wheel. For sharply bent rotors, two wrenches may be needed. Another common problem is a small amount of air in the brake fluid. This causes a “spongy” feel when apply your brakes. Unfortunately, bleeding your bike’s brake system is not always as easy as an auto. Because of the small volume of fluid and the small capacity of the caliper and reservoir, small air bubbles are easily trapped. For your basic bleeding job, Motion Pro makes a one man hydraulic brake bleeder that sells for under $20.00 (motion pro part #08-0143). It’s simply a check valve that you attach to your bleeder fitting which does not allow air to enter back into your system. If this method doesn’t work, you’ll have to resort to forcing fluid in through your bleeder. Instead of supplying the brake fluid through the reservoir and coming out the bleeder fitting, you’re forcing fluid through the bleeder fitting with the air bubbles exiting through your reservoir. There are several syringe type bleeders that work well. One in particular I like is the EZE bleeder, which sells for under $30.00. If you want or need a high tech version, Motion Pro again offers a tool called a Maxi-Ject Pro, which sells for over $400.00. You can find a similar tool in most auto parts stores for under $50.00. And finally, let’s talk about the brake pads. Today more than 95% of all new motorcycles and ATVs roll off the assembly line with sintered metal brake pads as original equipment. Sintered pads are made of a complex mix of metallic powders (to absorb heat), refractory material (to provide friction), friction modifiers (to alter feel), graphite’s (to minimize rotor wear and eliminate noise), mixed together, pressed to form the shape, then sintered at high temperature and pressure. I’d recommend that you stay with sintered pads when replacing your brakes. Remember, like most items you get what you pay for! T

Hurricane hills sport center Ultimate MX • D6 Points • PA States by Jim Bull

It was Round # 12 of the Ultimate MX Series, Round # 15 of the D6 series and The PA State Championships all rolled into one. It was sponsored by Tony D MX Schools and North American Warhorse and there were 6 ‘trophies for first place, 5’ for second and 4’ for third. The 25 + A group was the first off the line with Rob Stilwell from Auburn, NY leading the charge. It wasn’t long thou until Damien Plotts found his way to the front followed by Loretta’s Champ Kurt McMillen. Plotts would go on to win the State Championship followed by McMillen, Wallace and Boyesen.

The turn out was tremendous on this day and both the School Boy and College Boy divisions had over 30 riders on the gate. Andrew Pingotti from Middletown, NY would go 2-2 to win College Boy with Sunny Drake from Fulton, NY winning the School Boy group. In amateur racing action it would be another Kaminskie Nicoletti show. These two young men have been chasing each other around District 6 all month long. Nicoletti would get the nod in both 125 and 250 B classes. Jeremy Cook, Casey Clark, Casey Clark, Jeremy Cook, another pair that have been

fender to tire all month long. These two have been throwing down some amazing lap times and swapping wins all over the district. Clark gets the 125 A State Title with Cook taking the 250 A crown. And let’s not forget the 50 racers, the future stars of our sport. Brett Cox laid down a victory in the 50 Pee Wee division over series leader Kyle Boileau with Dawson Evitts grabbing third. Evitts would also go on to win the 50 stock (4-6) group with veteran 50cc pilot Jarek Balkovic winning the (7-8) group.

In the mini ranks names like Lettieri, Harrison and Schmelyun all took home State Championships. The next couple of rounds of the Ultimate MX Championship Series will be in the books until you read this story. Make sure you head on out to Doublin Gap on October 9th to catch another exciting round of racing action and log on to www. mcracingaction.com to check out complete photos from today’s event.

Lettieri (461), Willis (36) and Corbin (74) mix it up in Supermini action, 461 gets the win. Sunny Drake (167) leads John Higbee (30) and Phil Nicoletti (71) in 125 B. Nicoletti wins both 125 and 250 B.

Pagoda MC / Reactive Suspension backed Michelle Kastle is your Womens State Champion and Ultimate MX Series leader.

“They’re great – I put them on at Motorama and I never checked my spokes until June. Every single one was still tight !” – Casey Clark “My son Phil was on 80’s last year, he weighed 140lbs. and we were using stock rims and spokes on all of our bikes. We never had a problem and it made a believer out of me.” – Phil Nicoletti, Sr. Spoke Savers, what a concept. Back savers, time savers, money savers, a pain in the you know what savers. Any of the above names could be used for this revolutionary product coming right out of Pennsylvania. Talk about a great deal, $ 24.95 and it almost eliminates spoke maintenance. never have to check my spokes again. Bull crap, do your regular wheel maintenance and be pleasantly surprised that you don’t have to mess with your spokes. Each case is different and it’s better to be prepared than disappointed later, let alone the safety aspect of it. Spoke Savers are fantastic, not only do they look cool but they actually work. Here are a couple of reasons why everyone should have a set of Spoke Savers on their bike.

found this to be true. 4. One last thing, if you do need to change a rim with Spoke Savers installed, just remove the spoke nipples and your hub and spokes remain in place. Slide the new rim in position and you just saved yourself a few hours labor. 5. They’re only $24.95 – probably the best 25 bucks you‘ll ever invest in your bike.

1. First of all they help reduce spoke vibration by 40 – 50 %. This allows your spokes to stay tighter, longer helping to prevent spoke breakage and unwanted flat tires. 2. Secondly because of the unique patented channel and clip design, if you would happen to break a spoke or two during your moto, in most cases the zip tie can hold the broken spokes in place and it will allow you to finish your race. This also adds tremendously to the safety factor in helping to prevent you from crashing at the bottom of a jump because you just lost half of your back wheel. 3. Next in some applications, Spoke Savers have been known to help cool your rotors which helps prevent your brakes from fading quickly. Team KTM Supermoto has done extensive testing with the Spoke Saver product line and they have

Miles Mountain MX

D6 Points • Ultimate MX Series • Photos by MRA The Ultimate MX Weekend. Folks I’m telling you, if you didn’t make it to Miles Mountain this year you are doing yourself a big dis-service. I know some of you are thinking, its way up there. But hey, it’s one of the nicest drives you could ever take and the traffic is minimal. Besides that, the crew at Miles Mountain will definitely make it worth your while. Do you like big safe jumps? How about nice loamy top soil? Anybody like to hill climb? How about this, more riding for the buck than you can probably find anywhere else. It will more than pay for the extra gas you might have bought. Miles Mountain ran their Ultimate MX Weekend in mid September. It was Round

Chase Miller (02) chases down Logan Ehrets (98) on his way to the overall in the 7-8 group.

# 13 of the Ultimate MX Series ran in conjunction with D6 Championship Points and was sponsored by M&A Cycles. The weekend started off on Friday with open practice on the MX track. On Friday night they opened up their lighted supercross track for a free practice and of course there were good eats and a lot of socializing around the pits. Saturday morning brought many new faces to the mountain and the crew was offering a free second class to any first timers or anyone who brought a first timer. The gates were full of some of D6’s finest racers. The 50 classes were stacked and most of the fast experts came as well. Some of the best racing of the day came in the

School Boy division as Garret Toth and Phil Nicoletti went at it. At the intermission between the first and second motos there was a free to enter Pit Bike race on the specially designed Miles Mountain Mini Track and again on Saturday night, on came the lights for some free supercross action. Sunday brought another round of racing action sponsored by CJ’s Motorsports which was a District 4 points paying event. So let’s see, two days of racing, two free practices, a free pit bike race and a day of paid practice. One of the finest tracks you’ll find anywhere, friendly people, camp fires and a partridge in a pear tree, or maybe even a bear. No seriously folks, there’s

still time to check out Miles Mountain yet this fall, their last race of the year is early October but they have some open practices on Saturdays running through October. Do yourself a favor and check them out. If you can’t make it to the mountain this fall keep an eye on their schedule for next season here in the pages of MRA and you can always check their website at www. milesmountainmx.com . Please be sure to take a look at the awesome air and beautiful back drops of this weekend’s event on our site at www.mcracingaction.com .

…more riding for the buck than you can probably find anywhere else. VPE sponsored Addison Emory IV (191) was back to his winning ways after an early season injury.

Nick Desiderio (57) and Kameron Page (83) swapped wins all day long on the mountain.

Garret Toth leads Phil Nicoletti up a huge step up at Miles Mountain. Toth put up a good fight but Nicoletti has been winning everything he enters.

Barry Carsten came to Miles Mountain for the first time and took home three expert wins.

Chad Bellot soars to the College Boy victory.

Kyle Boileau launches finish line for the Oil Injected win.

Scott Meshey takes the checkers in the 4-6 group.

www.reactive-suspension.com 8 - 12 but kids who rip around on their BMX bikes dreaming about one day being a racer. The flaw with this is these kids parents are so dead set against motorcycles that they wouldn’t let their kids go see the movie anyway. When I went there were 2 people in the theatre, me and my buddy, which was probably a good thing as my interminable groaning would probably have disturbed any one else in the theatre. I believe they could make a good movie if they wanted to, they’ve done it with car racing (Grand Prix) and many other sports venues but it seems we are still waiting for our movie classic. A somewhat motorcycle related movie that I have heard good things about but have yet to see is “The Motorcycle Diaries” I’m trying to track down the DVD and I’ll let you know. Till then avoid Hollywood’s vision of us and our sport. We would like to invite everyone to stop by and visit us at our new location on Rt. 100 in Bechtelsville and hope to see you at Pagoda on the 25th.

As its been a really busy couple of weeks at the shop I’ve had little time to research a tech article so I thought I’d just rehash a subject I’ve written about before. Some of you may remember the article I wrote about Motorcycles and Hollywood.Well I had the opportunity to see the new Supercross the Movie motion picture, and guess what, nothing has changed. This movie was so bad I would have walked out on it on an airplane. Four strokes that sound like two strokes and vice versa, get-offs that sound like a car crashing in a Triple X movie.Unimaginably bad dialog. My personal favorite was where our hero was adjusting his valves with his girlfriend. They’re both sweating up a storm as he cranks on a ratchet and she reads the dial gauge. ????????????????????? Did he have a body part caught in the chain? The sheer idiocy of this leaves me at a loss for words. I would love to know, who are they trying to cater to with this type of movie. I’ve thought long and hard and the only audience I can imagine would buy this crap is kids 8 - 12. Not racers aged

Pagoda short track

September 17-18, 2005 • Pagoda Cup • Photos by MRA Pagoda MC was your host for a two day District 6 Short Track event at their grounds in Birdsboro, PA. Saturday night brought a regular racing program with a record 166 entries for Pagoda along with a record crowd of spectators to witness the 1st ever Pagoda Cup. The Pagoda Cup was a fifteen lap main event that paid out over $1500.00 to the participants. The big cash was sponsored by Bromley Suzuki KTM, Lancaster HD, Scott Powersports, Schaffer HD and Monster Plates. Three heat races were run thru out the day with the top four from each heat advancing. Money was paid out at various laps to the leader at the time and various pay outs were awarded to all that participated. Pro racer Donny Mullen ended up with the lions share of the purse with Scott Powersports backed Raun Wood grabbing second and Baer Racings Shawn Baer rounding out the top three. On Sunday, Pagoda hosted the second day of racing under bright skies and pleasant temperatures. The crowd was smaller than the night before but the racing was just as intense. In the Sportsman division Pro Racer Raun Wood would get out to the early lead. Wood would hold his position until lap three of the 8 lap main; until young AMS backed Brandon Robinson would slip by on the back straight. Robinson would hold on and race to the checkers.

The weekends racing action also brought the Speedway bikes to Pagoda. A local family, the Lengle’s have been racing Speedway bikes for years but need to travel to do so. They are making every effort to get a points paying class designated in District 6 for the upcoming season. If you would like to know how to get involved in this new to our area sport, contact Damon Lengle at damonchip@comcast.net . You can view event photos at www.mcracingaction.com and be sure to keep an eye on Pagodas schedule to get out to their next event.

Ask Powersports/Bel Ray/Monster Plates Pro Rider Donny Mullen came to Pagoda and won the Pagoda Cup cash on a Tom McGrane ride.

Evan Baer (64) and Chris Maccarty (23) mix it up in 250 B racing action. Baer would edge out Maccarty for the win.

MDRA HOTSHOT How Bad Do You Really Want It? “It” the win. Ask yourself “Am I really willing to dedicate my time and energy for it?”. If the answer is “yes” then keep reading to really understand what a good work ethic is. First of all, always giving 100% of your energy to training. In order to do this you will need to make some adjustments, like passing on the invites to parties, improve your diet, and of course always getting a good nights rest. Sounds easy but when it comes down to following through with all this it takes commitment and dedication. One of the athletes I train, Kim Geist, just competed in the Junior World Cycling Championships in Austria. Kim is a really talented cyclist and one of the most focused athletes that I have ever worked with. She trains eleven months out of the year to reach her goal – to compete for the World Champion title. Last year she won the Bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Los Angeles, California. This year qualifying allowed her to make the trip to Austria where she won the Bronze medal on the track and a fourth place finish in the sixty mile road race. During the off-season Kim’s training consists of four nights a week in the gym with a combination of weight training and interval workouts on the indoor cycling trainer. On weekends she rides 70 miles on Saturday and an additional 60 miles on Sunday. Kim also manages to maintain her “A” average at school with one day of rest. Sounds busy – remember that is what she does during the off-season! OK, let’s get down to the good stuff, training during the season. Weight training is cut back to two days a week but time on the bike really picks up. Training during the Season: Monday AM Road Ride (30-40 miles) 2 hours PM Weight Training 1 hour Track Training 2 hours Tuesday

Kim was focused and disciplined all year to improve. It took all this to go three seconds faster then she did in Los Angeles the year before. Kim has been racing her bicycle since she was eight years old and has earned 18 National Championships and two World bronze medals. She knows what it really means to be a champion! Do you still want “it”? Yes, then don’t just say it, start thinking, acting and training like a winner. We all know the training is going to be the hard part but worth every minute to improve the fun part, racing and winning. Take a look at the grown up Ricky Carmichael who transformed from a pudgy little kid into a champion. This guy is an animal. His training consists of a forty-mile bike ride in the morning, three forty-minute motos after lunch and a gym workout in the evening. That is dedication. All that training is why he loves racing and winning. Oh yeah, he also gets paid a lot of money to do it. Still interested in getting into winner form? I can help you get there with a monthly training program for off and/or in-season. I am organizing two-day training schools that will cover training and strengthening in the morning then riding with some top local Pros in the evening at local tracks this coming spring. I am also looking to sponsor some local riders for the ‘06 season. Email your resume to me at totalwt@hotmail.com. Keep training ~ Bob Schuler

Name: David Wingate Event: MDRA Race Series Age: 14 Hometown: Pasadena, MD District #: 724 Ride: Kawasaki KX 85 Class: 85cc (12-15) C Experience: 7 years racing Hobbies: BMX Fav. Food: Hardshell Crabs Fav. Racer: Travis Pastrana Sponsors: ASV, Decal Works, CDR, Mom and Dad Thanks to: Tim Schmelyun and CDR Future goals: To go to Loretta’s. David Wingate from Pasadena, MD is our newest MDRA Hotshot. David is in his last year on the mini’ s and is tied for first place in the 85cc (12-15) C division with Josh Fisher with two events left at the time of this printing. David is also competing in the Junior Mini division where he currently sits in fifth place. David used to ride in the District 7 youth series prior to this year. He joined the MDRA in 2005 so he could race against his peers and he finds himself at the top of the pack coming right down to the end of the series. It will be a close battle, both David and Josh are great competitors and it’s hard to say who will grab the championship. David has also been practicing on his Yamaha YZ125. He competed a few weeks ago on the big bike for the first time and he took a fourth place in the School Boy division. Not too shabby for the first time out. David has actually grown out of his 85cc bike but will finish the year on it to chase the championship points. Watch for him next year racing both School Boy and 125 C. David and his family also asked that we send a big Thank You out to Tim Schmelyun. Tim has helped David with his training and practice regimen. With a coach like Tim in his corner it is no wonder that he is doing well. David would also like to thank the folks at CDR. They keep his bike tuned and have helped out with trackside support to keep David on course. By the time you are reading this the last two rounds of the MDRA Series will be in the books and we’ll know how David faired. First or second he is still a Hotshot in my book. We wish David the best of luck in the remainder of 2005 and we’ll be watching come next season. And who knows, we still have time for more Hotshots this year. Maybe it will be you. Keep an eye out next month for the newest MDRA Hotshot. Jim Bull MRA

The Honda Red Rider Junior Supermoto Challenge is a support class race for teenagers aged 12-15 aboard identical

2005 CRF150s that are modified for safety requirements and left in the mild stock state of tune, putting the emphasis on riding ability and smart racing. The Supermoto challenge is an invitationonly affair and Dale Wakefield, Jr. is the first ever “Off Road Racer” to compete in the Supermoto challenge. Prospective racers must submit their racing résumé, a letter

outlining their racing goals, and here’s the part that may be a little bit different, their latest school report card. These criteria stress not only racing ability, but academics as well. Applicants are then reviewed and invitations are issued for 15 students at each round of the Supermoto Championship. Dale was invited to compete in round # 2 in late July having only 3 days notice. You don’t pass an opportunity like this by so Bugsy and his dad Dale Sr. packed up and headed west. Talking to Bugsy after he got home he said that it was some of the coolest racing he has ever done and he can’t wait to do it again. Bugsy got a fifth out of fifteen that day so he didn’t qualify to go to the finals in Reno in October but he sure had a blast. The top three from the first six rounds will be invited to the season finale in downtown Reno where a national winner will be crowned Red Rider Junior Supermoto Champion for 2005.
