Totnes Festival A message from Councillor Judy Westacott, Chair of the Totnes Festival Committee Welcome to Totnes Festival! Through our festival, people from the area celebrate all aspects of local (and not so local) life including art, dance, theatre, film, music, outdoor events, ecology… or perhaps they just want to demonstrate that community spirit is alive and well in Totnes! Once again the people, organisations, charities, businesses and institutions of the town have pulled out all the stops to put on a festival that promises to be as diverse and vibrant as Totnes itself. We invite you to Totnes to be a part of the party. Some words of thanks: to Dartington for being our main supporter both in terms of helping us produce our promotional material and also in contributing stimulating events of their own for the programme; thanks to Riverford Home Delivery for helping distribute our programmes again; to Thinking Arts for their help with the website and to www.artsculture.co.uk for putting the programme together. Thanks also to the many people working behind the scenes to bring the festival together, but most of all thanks to the people of Totnes who make all of this possible!

A message from Vaughan Lindsay, CEO of Dartington Hall Trust Following our successful partnership last year, Dartington is delighted to be supporting Totnes Festival once again in 2010. As you know, the festival is a fantastic opportunity for us all to experience a huge variety of activities and events over ten packed days. As part of the festival we are presenting a range of events across our activity in the arts, social justice and sustainability from performances and screenings to tours of Dartington’s gardens and family fun at the Cider Press Centre. In particular we hope you can join us for our Community Conversation event on Saturday, September 4 at the Mansion House. This is an opportunity to hear about our plans and ask your questions, so if you would like to come along please reserve your place now by emailing info@dartington.org. If you can’t make it, do check our website for dates of future community conversation events: we will be holding them regularly in the future. We wish the festival, its organisers and everyone taking part every success in 2010.

How to use this programme Events are arranged in date order, where events run over several days their main entry in the programme may appear on the start day only. To see at a glance all the events on any particular day, look at the listings at the back or visit the website.

Check out the website for more information To find out more about all the events, artists and venues for this year’s festival check out the website at www.totnesfestival.com www.totnesfestival.com

Totnes Festival: 12th September Totnes Festival Open Day Sunday, September 12th Totnes Civic Square 11am-2pm Free

Totnes Festival’s first free Open Day, to be held in the Civic Square, is to feature the amazing Tin Harlequin, a children’s puppet performance group from Salisbury. This multi-talented group is guaranteed to keep all the family happy with its incredible puppetry. They will perform a selection of original tales – including crime fighting and space adventures – and present a cast of original characters in an interactive multisenses experience. Also on the bill is electroacoustic indie/rock band Temporary Mind, who are based in Teignmouth. Fresh from their recent, and very well received, gig at the Teignmouth Music Festival, the boys will certainly help to make the Open Day a great event. Temporary Mind has come a long way since their humble beginnings. Paul and Sam started as a duo just jamming, to playing open mic nights in their local pub, and as their reputation grew they now play major venues around the West Country

They regularly raise money for local charities including The Snooky Trust Charity and The Helen Foundation. The entertainment will run from 11am to 2pm and will include other local bands.

It matters not where, who, how or when. We are here and now, Tin Harlequin. A four piece children’s puppet show performance group based in Salisbury entertaining ages 4 to 8. Tin Harlequin are now performing their first production Different Worlds an interactive multi senses experience. The show comprises a quartet of original tales.
