First Aid Accreditation Students from year 12 and year 13 took part in a full day basic first aid course, by St John's Ambulance. Their certificates will last for 3 years and will help them get employment in the care industry, give them confidence to help people in need in any situation, such as on a night out or when with family and is also very useful for those looking to train as a nurse, doctor, occupational therapist, etc. It also looks good on a CV!

Theatre trip - 1984

30th September 2015

Coming Up… Wordsworth Workshop run by a representative of the Wordsworth Trust Students will study a range of Wordsworth’s poems as well as being given an insight into Romanticism Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum is the only place in the world where his personal belongings and handwritten documents can be seen in the place that inspired his greatest work.

‘it becomes astoundingly clear that this production owes as much to the creative team behind the scenes as it does to the stellar performances from every single member of the cast: complex, ingenious and super-stylish, almost cinematic in its elegance, but skilfully remaining faithful to the core foundations of the incomparable power of contemporary theatre at its stunning best.’ (Bath Life Magazine)

AS Literature students will visit the Birmingham Carrslane Centre on Monday 7th March For an all day30th September 2015 workshop on Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams

A Level Literature Theatre trip to watch Jane Eyre at the Bristol Old Vic Wednesday 27th January

Year 13 English Language students visit Chandag Primary School to observe Literacy lessons and read with the children st 1 February 2016

First staged at Bristol Old Vic in 2014, Sally Cookson's acclaimed re-imagining of BrontĂŤ's masterpiece comes back to us in a single exhilarating performance following its transfer to the National Theatre's stage.

All our Year 13 students are looking forward to a day’s visit to the high-tech labs of @ Bristol, to carry out a workshop called “A question of taste”. This involves fully hands-on gene technology, using state of the art techniques (electrophoresis & PCR to name just 2!) to isolate, amplify and identify one of their own tasting genes. The day ends with a stimulating discussion the ethics of gene manipulation. A great day – and superb preparation for these topics on the summer exam – what more could you want?

On November 4th Y12 and 13 students from Design and Technology took a trip to London and visited the Design museum and the Science Museum. The aim of the trip was to gather inspiration for coursework and an awareness and appreciation of the wider world of design and engineering. The Design Museum was showing it’s annual ‘Designs of the Year’ exhibition highlighting the years’ most important new designs which was particularly good for students to see as it features many new designers straight out of university – something to aspire to! We then moved on to the Science Museum where students explored exhibitions about materials, careers in engineering and the Russian space programme before returning to school.

Berlin Trip

GERMAN PUPIL COURSES Two-week language and culture courses for Alevel students. Our students are applying now for the German Pupil Courses to spend two weeks in Germany this summer! Talented and enthusiastic learners of German will experience two fun weeks of language lessons, thematic workshops, excursions and much more. The courses are part-funded by the German government which covers all course-related costs in Germany.

The Berlin Trip will be taking place on the 4th-6th March and will include a trip to the Reichstag, a tour of the beautiful city and of course lots of opportunities to taste the famous Currywurst! Berlin – wir kommen!!! The trip was so much fun and a really good opportunity to see the German culture and practice the language – Louise Screen Year 13 student.

The course really helped me gain confidence when speaking the language and after 2 weeks I was able to hold a fluent conversation in German - Tom Jenkins Year 13 student.

Germany is a great diverse country for A- level students to do work experience. On a work experience trip you will be able to explore and discover a vibrant and cultural city where you can meet other young people whilst practising your language skills and gain in confidence and independence.

Book your trip today and join the experience.

We have had a really good consistent turn out of Sixth Form students to our Monday nights new Bristol Flyers Basketball session. This runs from 6 - 7pm here at Wellsway with two players coaching from the Bristol Flyers – one being Daniel Edozie (an American signing).

We are now a hub for the basketball so this session is open to students from outside of Wellsway from 14-25 years of age; and from the five hub sites ours has been the most successful!
