Action welcomed THE Peard Real Estate Group has welcomed action by the Fair Work Ombudsman against real estate agencies not paying staff their full entitlements. The Ombudsman has ordered several Perth real estate agents to pay back staff entitlements worth more than $146,000. Peard Real Estate Group chief executive Peter Peard encouraged staff throughout the real estate industry to ensure that they were remunerated under new workplace laws. “With sales falling over recent months and some agencies under financial pressure, there is a real danger that some companies will try to cut costs through not paying staff their full entitlements,” he said. “Peard applauds the work of the Fair Work Ombudsman because it ensures that all agencies compete on a level playing field. “Our company employs over 200 people and we have a dedicated human resources department to make sure that we comply with all necessary legislation, including laws relating to the employment of new sales representatives. “For example, rookies are entitled to be paid at least the minimum wage and if this is not occurring, then they can complain to the Fair Work Ombudsman. Mr Peard said if an employee was unsure of their entitlements, then they should contact the Fair Work Ombudsman for further assistance. ■
