With more homes on the market – the figure currently sits at about 18,000 – the average selling time of properties has also changed, increasing by more than 70 days. “More property buyers are taking longer to make a decision about buying a home because some believe that property prices might actually fall because of the rising supply of properties,” Mr O’Rourke said. “It’s critical that sellers ensure they have an accurate market price when they list

Mr O’Rourke said statistics showed an almost 50 per cent rise in the number of properties listed for sale in Perth in the past year. The influx of homes to the market was forcing sellers to lower the initial asking price for their house to find a buyer. “The latest REIWA figures show that in Perth’s northern coastal suburbs, around 60 per cent of sellers are discounting the

Scarborough Beach development in awards mix Woodhead-designed complex offers originality and diversity in a prime location THE mixed use CeVue Scarborough Beach development is one of six WA projects vying for the top gong in the 2011 Property Council of Australia Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards. The development is a finalist in the Best Residential Development and Best Australian Development categories of the awards, which recognise excellence in the built environment, and celebrates the achievements of the sector’s finest professionals and companies. The CeVue development was one of the catalysts for the redevelopment of the Scarborough foreshore and is expected to invigorate the area. It is the first new project on the fore-

shore in 17 years, and incorporates 78 permanent apartments, two eateries, four commercial tenancies and 21 serviced apartments. Architectural firm Woodhead designed the complex to offer originality and diversity in the layout of the apartments, of which there are a range available, from 85sq m two-bedroom apartments to penthouses and serviced apartments. The construction of CeVue was managed internally by Cape Bouvard and completed on budget. The CeVue development has become the group’s iconic project and generated an overall rate of return in excess of industry benchmarks to create significant

interest in further proposed developments that Cape Bouvard will be undertaking in Scarborough and other areas. Rider Levett Bucknall director Alastair McMichael said: “This is the only property awards program where the real success of a development is measured in terms of operational efficiency, design and return on investment.” The award winners will be announced at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday, May 14. ■
