Healthy demand for that million-dollar lifestyle DESPITE a sluggish real estate market, nearly 140 suburbs in Perth had $1 million property sales for the year ending March 2011. The latest figures from REIWA show 142 suburbs recorded individual property sales of at least $1million during this 12month period, including southern suburbs such as Kardinya, Bull Creek, Palmyra, Beeliar, Jandakot and Munster. According to Graeme Baxter, chief executive officer of Acton Real Estate, the number of suburbs with million-dollar property sales had remained stable over the last two years with 137 Perth suburbs recording million-dollar property sales

during the year ending the March 2010 quarter. “Overall, million-dollar property sales now account for nearly nine per cent of all house sales in Perth, which is a very positive result, taking into account the impact of rising interest rates over the last year,’’ he said. “One of the most significant trends in the million-dollar Perth property market is the growing number of property sales in lifestyle markets, which are not usually associated with the prime riverside suburbs of Perth.” Million-dollar sales were also recorded in Mindarie, Iluka, Duncraig, Hillarys,

‘Rookie’ knocks down another winner JASON Rainsford of LJ Hooker Atwell won the 2011 REIWA Auctioneer Championships Rookie of the Year this month. The annual statewide auctioneering competition has two categories – seniors and rookies. To be eligible to compete in the rookies category, competitors must be a licensed auctioneer with no more than two years’ experience and have called no more than 50 auctions. “I felt my performance was strong and that the competition continued to develop my auctioneering skills and increase my

ability to perform,” Mr Rainsford said. This year’s awards event involved seniors and rookies auctioning a residential property in WA and having a crowd of 120 people acting as spectators and buyers to recreate the atmosphere of a live auction. Mr Rainsford said he was passionate about auctions. “I think it’s the best way to sell – it’s an open, transparent transaction for all and the buyer has the opportunity to bid to a limit.” He joked he planned to compete with the seniors next year. ■
