Being selective pays dividends Keeping the 1950s aspects of this home was a wise move. By SCOTT WOODSIDE THOUSANDS of WA property investors will receive large tax refunds during the coming financial year because of obtaining a tax depreciation report for their properties. “Despite this, there is still a large number of investment property owners in WA who do not understand that they can significantly boost their cash flow by claiming tax deductions for a large number of items through depreciation benefits,” managing director of tax depreciation specialists DEPPRO, Paul Bennion said. “In particular, property investors fail to understand that the tax benefits from depreciation can be just as important as rental income and that tax benefits obtained through depreciation can be equivalent to 60 per cent of the total purchase price of the property. “For example, taxation ruling TR2006/15 deems garden gnomes are depreciable as plants over their economic life. “A large proportion of these
