THE latest ABS figures on building approvals show that last financial year (2008-2009) property owners in WA spent more than $500 million on home renovations. Caporn Young principal Richard Young said the figures revealed that the total value of building approvals for home renovations during the 12month period ending June 2009 in WA was $542 million, or more than $10 million each week. “Despite the slowdown in the overall property market during the last financial year, spending on home renovations still remained strong, especially in the western suburbs of Perth,’’ he said. “The ABS figures show building approvals for home renovations for the Perth central area, which covers most of the western suburbs, totalled $94 million during 2008-2009
