Property a super idea WITH the growing life expectancy of Australians increasing, Professionals Real Estate Group chief executive David Hobbs encourages homeowners to invest in property to ensure a comfortable retirement. Mr Hobbs said that according to United Nations estimates, Australia had the joint fourth-highest life expectancy in the world (equal with Switzerland) over the period 2005 to 2010. “Advances in medicine and improvements in lifestyle mean that this generation now has the prospect of living much longer than previous generations,’’ he said. “This means that we need more money to fund our retirement, as we are living much longer and staying healthier. “Relying totally on superannuation to fund your retirement may not be enough given longer life expectancy rates, particularly with the current relatively low level of contributions made by most average income earners.” Mr Hobbs said by investing in welllocated real estate, people could enjoy the prospect of their investment increasing in value. Mr Hobbs also encouraged younger people to invest in property to supplement their superannuation contributions. Developer’s marina vision another step closer Access road’s opening a milestone for project AUSTRALAND’S vision for a worldclass residential marina in Cockburn is one step closer to completion with the official opening of Port Coogee’s major access road. The road links the north and south of the 86ha estate and allows people to drive, walk and cycle through the heart of the project for the first time. The opening is the first in a series of major project milestones to roll out over the next few months and during 2011, including the opening of a protected public beach and the construction of the first 80 marina pens. Australand WA general manager Tony Perrin said travelling through Port Coogee via the new roads would give people a true sense of the connection between the land and the water. “People will get a real taste of what is to come when they see the parks, public
open spaces, the views and the landscaping, which all contribute to the evolving character and amenity,” he said. “Finally the community will be able to see how the vision for a revitalised waterfront connected to a vibrant urban village and bustling marina is being realised.” Mr Perrin also said a striking entry statement to Seaspray Island was due for completion by Christmas. It will include a textured weathered steel frame with curved cladding to reflect the bow of the nearby Omeo shipwreck. The entrance will set the scene for the rich maritime theme that will run throughout the entire estate. “It’s all about providing visual and physical links to the water to deliver on the promise of true marina living,” Mr Perrin said. ■
