Building approvals continue to rise Institute’s research shows WA is bucking the national trend, reports CARMELLE WILKINSON

Rare land in southern corridor Estate is close to popular beach and future marina, writes TANYA MACNAUGHTON SURELAND Developments has released 41 lots as part of the Stage One land release of the new Beeliar Rise estate, close to Coogee Beach and the future Port Coogee Marina. The lots range from 270 to 521sqm and are priced from $225,000 to $345,000. Selling agent and LJ Hooker land marketing director Cosimo Cutri said the elevated positioning, close proximity to Fremantle and surrounding native bushland was a winning combination for the estate.

“It is one of the highest remaining estates in the southern corridor, with some lots offering ocean glimpses and others having an outlook to the Darling Ranges,” Mr Cutri said. Stage One of Beeliar Rise is now under construction, with work on roads, retaining walls, parklands and services nearly completed. Mr Cutri said buyers would be assisted with home and land packages due to his company’s professional relationships with all the major builders in WA.

BUILDING approvals in WA increased for the third consecutive month in November 2010. The statistics released by the ABS indicate a sure sign the market was already on the road to recovery in late 2010. According to the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA), WA bucked the national trend with a 7.1 per cent increase in total dwellings approved for the month and a 0.9 per cent increase in private sector houses approved. “The latest ABS figures show that private sector housing approvals hit a low in September 2010 with only 1373 approved,” UDIA chief executive Debra Goostrey said. “Since September, things have stabilised with 1387 private sector houses approved in October and 1399 in November. “With three consecutive increases in building approvals it certainly seems that the market hit the bottom of a downward cycle in September and has now steadied and is likely to improve throughout the year.” In terms of the land market, sales were steady during the September 2010 quarter and UDIA expects steady results again for their December quarter figures to be released next month. ■
