Match caps off a record fundraiser More than $20,000 donated in four years to mental health support. By CARMELLE WILKINSON JONES Ballard Property Group has joined the fight to raise greater awareness of mental illnesses. Sponsoring a recent charity cricket match at Aquinas College, the group helped raise $6000. The annual 20/20 cricket match is held in honour of former Aquinas student Philip Kennedy, who lost his life to depression in 2006. The PK Cup, as it is known, began in 2006 and more than $20,000 has been collected to date. Former Aquinas student and principal of Jones Ballard Property

Group Nik Jones said the event helped raise much-needed funds to assist in the treatment of patients, by improving the facilities at Graylands Hospital. “Money is raised on the day of the charity cricket match through raffles, auctions and food stalls,’’ he said. “Jones Ballard has been a big supporter of this major community event because it is a very positive way to assist mental illness. “This year our company was pleased to fund the caps, which players wore on the day.” Former Aquinas student and

It is the first time Acton has ventured into the lucrative inner city apartment and commercial development market. Acton City principal Kim Turner said the inner city market had plenty to offer and was constantly growing. “The latest amendments to Residential Design Codes are exciting as they will allow developers to build more apartments on inner city blocks of land and this will add to the vibrancy of inner city living in Perth,” he said. Mr Turner has worked in real estate for more than seven years and was previously the owner of an East Perth based real estate office. Prior to entering the property industry, Mr Turner spent time in the military. “I appreciate now the discipline that the military drilled into me,’’ he said. Executive rentals wanted by Chevron Search is on to find luxury home leases in the western suburbs for more than 50 families. International energy corporation Chevron is bringing 50 families from around the world to Perth for a minimum of two-year contracts. The families will come from Singapore, Canada, the UK, France and America. Paxton Hoad property manager Melissa McDonald said they were looking for homes of a particular calibre. “We are after modern family homes,

preferably with four bedrooms and two bathrooms, and spacious outdoor areas,” she said.“Families from the UK especially love pools and are big on security.” Mrs McDonald said homes around the river and beachfront were highly desirable and that they had already received considerable interest from owners of properties in City Beach, Swanbourne and Cottesloe. Recovery is on the way in 2011 THE affluent western suburbs market is expected to rebound in 2011. According to the principal of Caporn Young Estate Agents, Richard Young, the past year had been a very challenging one for the premium property market in WA due to a combination of rising interest rates, uncertainly caused by the Federal election and mining super tax. “Sales began to slow significantly during the later half of 2010 due to these factors and, as a result, the number of properties listed for sale rose dramatically, meaning that sellers had to take a very competitive approach to the pricing of their homes,’’ he said. “At the same time, buyers have been largely absent from the premium property market during the later half of 2010. “For most of the second half of 2010, many buyers have effectively been 'sitting on the fence' and not making a decision to buy in the expectation that prices would fall even further.” But over the past two months Mr Young said Caporn Young had recorded an upward movement in sales. “Recent comments from the Reserve Bank indicate that interest rates will be on hold for the foreseeable future and this has also given buyers greater confidence to purchase a home,’’ he said. “In addition, astute property buyers understand that the local economy will gain further traction during 2011, due to the massive new investment in the resources sector, and this in turn will lead to a rising demand for property during the coming year.” Mr Young said the first sign of a future upswing in the property market was the rising demand for rental accommodation and Caporn Young was starting to notice this trend, particularly for homes with a weekly rent in excess of $1500. “Caporn Young has now a severe shortage of executive homes for rent due to the increasing number of executives moving to WA. Properties renting for $2000 a week are now being leased very quickly by our company,’’ he said. He urged buyers to move swiftly while stock levels were high. ■

Resurrected as a house to worship Striking home is pure brilliance. By JANE EVANS NUMBER 3 Gordon Street is a house that makes you stop and stare. Recently completed, the striking, double-storey stone structure – the vision of Conrad Oma of Grand Design Homes – is somewhat of an architectural masterpiece. Track your street’s changes over the years at Landgate Map Viewer LANDGATE has developed a new Map Viewer using its vast stocks of historical aerial images to provide a great way to show how your street or town looked when it was first established compared to how it looks today. The photos provide a picture of how WA has developed over the years, with some early images dating back to 1948. Landgate chief executive Mike Bradford said many people were unaware Landgate held such a considerable archive of historic aerial imagery. “Images collected over more than 50 years have been brought together in Map Viewer,” he said. “A simple address search delivers the lat-

est aerial photographs; users can then select from numerous older images available on their chosen location. “With a click, users of Map Viewer will also be able to create a virtual movie of the changes to where they live – a cascade of images transitioning from the old to the new.” He said the free service was easy to access and navigate. A range of paid property products are also available through Map Viewer including titles, survey plans, sales history reports and valuation information.
