Fear is not something Melanie relates to Born adventurer safely at home selling real estate, writes CARMELLE WILKINSON MELANIE Fear from Altus Real Estate in Swanbourne is as fearless as they come. Before she started selling property in Perth’s swanky western suburbs, she was tracking lions in Kenya, sailing a tall ship in the Mediterranean and swimming with whale sharks in the State’s north. Nowadays the brave agent enjoys keeping active by taking part in the annual City to Surf run and raising much-needed funds for melanoma research.

Before working in the real estate industry, Melanie worked in both the public and private sectors, starting in reception and moving on to property management, PA work and then sales. “Through my work, I have met and made many fine friends over the years. This was very evident when I was not well late last year. The hospital staff actually asked if I was someone famous, and had not told them, as I seemed to have

many visitors,’’ she said. When she’s not on the job, you’ll find Melanie in her kitchen cooking up a batch of pancakes for her family. “I am known for my pancakes in the family; not sure if it is due to them knowing it’s about the only thing I cook from scratch now… or that they really do love them,’’ she said. “Family is important, and I love having family visit. “I was born in Kenya and

moved here the year I turned 14, so for many years did not have the benefit of an extended family – but now many of my extended family live in Australia.” An animal lover, Melanie has cared for an array of pets over the years – particularly cats. “I seem to inherit cats, they choose me and now I am worried as my biggest fear was to grow old with cats,” she said. ■ Melanie Fear. Change trees whenever there’s an urge

DEMAND for executive rental homes in Perth is on its way up. According to James Heath, business development manager for Caporn Young Estate Agents, while Caporn had a zero vacancy rate for executive rental homes priced above $1000, it was also now virtually impossible to find a quality rental home in the western suburbs for under $1000 per week. The strong demand for executive rental homes in Perth is highlighted by the fact that Caporn Young has just leased an executive home on Mettan Street in Trigg for a figure much higher than the listed price. “This stunning home was listed at $1750 per week and was leased four days later for $2000 per week because of the competition among prospective tenants,’’ Mr Heath said. “Caporn Young is finding strong demand for executive homes along the Perth coastal strip and quality apartments in the inner city area. “The apartments generally have to be within walking distance to the Perth CBD. “Our company is also finding a very strong demand for furnished apartments which generally achieve more than 30 per cent additional rental income compared to an unfurnished apartment.” Mr Heath said this strong demand for executive rentals was encouraging more investors to purchase quality homes and apartments for a week plus.
