Record $20m sale may be market’s perfect pick-me-up Figures show sales in March and April the strongest since January 2008 TUMBLING house prices at the top end of the market may be sluggish but the sale last week of a property in Dalkeith for a whopping $20 million may just revive confidence in the market. Prominent Perth QC Malcolm McCusker and wife Tonya bought the lavish property at 56 Jutland Parade, believed to be one of the biggest property purchases in our city’s history. The architect-designed six-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion is situated on 2302sqm on the river’s edge. Western suburbs agent William Porteous, who has sold numerous properties along the desirable street, said Jutland Parade was not only one of Perth’s most prestigious addresses, but

By CARMELLE SANDER PERTH property prices may have taken a tumble in the past 12 months, but local agents are confident the market is bouncing back and the prognosis is positive. Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show Perth was the hardest hit city of any capital city, dropping 10.1 per cent. However, according to most agents, this decline in property values was mainly isolated to the higher end of the market, and the middle and lower ends were in fact performing quite strongly. LUXURY LIVING Architect turns attention to interior detail David Hillam opens designer furniture store. By AMANDA RANKIN DISCERNING shoppers on the lookout for the latest in furniture and lighting designs should make a point of visiting Majool in Subiaco. This very stylish store is the brainchild of architect David Hillam, known for his cuttingedge housing designs that cry out for equally modish furniture. “David designs contemporary homes and he found that when his clients came to furnishing their new home they couldn’t find anything in Perth to do the home justice,” Majool’s retail manager Debbie Polkinghorne explained. “Often the clients sourced the eastern states for furniture, but why shouldn’t they be able to buy that kind of quality here in Perth?” Now they can. Majool rhymes with cool and inside the vast showroom you will find designs by some of the world’s hippest furniture and lighting designers, setting the trends with the latest technologies and fabrics.
