Transportation facilities

- Railroads centering in Kansas City switched directly to the yards - Large parking facilities nearby - Access to major roads/highways

Geographic location

Tentative features for initial development. Once location is established as local attraction, more features will be introduced.

Users

Skateboarders, particularly those who prefer cruising or doing simple tricks. Very long pathway would provide for excellent uninterrupted trips.

Vendors for local restaurants/farmers who could rent out space within the building. Once established, site could allow for non-food items to be sold.

The rest of the community who are attracted to local history and unique scenic venue.

Recreational kayakers/canoers who need a rest stop or a place to store their water craft temporarily.

IDeal Development history

Initial development on stockyard site

Drawing in attention from immediate surroundings such as the Westbottoms and local food vendors

Get people to come from further locations such as the inner city and across the river to visit

Continued growth due to word of mouth/ advertisement from increased attraction and potential value of land for future development

context Given the location of the site and its rich historical value, it was necessary to pay homage to several aspects of the Kansas City stock exchange and incorporate them into a modern product. Beef was an extremely important part of the stockyards and Kansas, therefore it made sense to maintain that connection by having meat/bbq be the main product of future vendors.

Like the original stockyards, the new structure would incorporate multiple levels/paths giving users various vantage points and routes for exploration.

As mentioned before, the stockyards site is one of the few areas with no barrier to the river. In order to create a unique experience in Kansas City, it was essential to incorporate an interactive part of the river for the community.

This site is unique due to the fact that it is among the few barrier free river access locations. In order to take advantage of that aspect, the river boardwalk would include a storage area for recreational boat enthusiasts.
