B is for Boston Tea Party
A protest by the American colonies To help them become free from British troops They tossed tea over without a doubt While the captain was confused They took victory as they cheered That night of December 16th gained victory for all that were near The Boston Tea party took place on exactly December 16th, 1773 in Griffin’s Wharf Boston, Massachusetts. The colonists threw tea into the Boston Harbor as a protest against the British because of the Tea Act which was a tax for tea, because of the Tea Act colonists smuggled in about 90% of their tea. The Pariorits were fed up with the taxes which caused the Boston Tea Party. They disguised themselves as Indians do the people on the boat wouldn’t know who they were and get confused. The colonists dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor which would add up to 19 million cups of tea. Records show that 180 names of men dumped tea into the Boston Harbor but there were probably many more. The Boston Tea Party was a key ingredient to the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War. The colonists had taken yet another victory and Britain was slowly losing the colonists trust. Without the Boston Tea Party we might have started the war later or never have done the war at all everything that happened was for a good reason. Britain has lost this battle and they will soon lose the war. Question: Did the Boston Tea Party cause the war to come sooner?

D is for: Declaration of Independence
By Elyce Colvin 5th hour 12/4/18
On July 4th 1776 there was a war called The Declaration of Independence and everyone was obviously fighting george washington was in the fight he signed the declaration of independence along with 56 other people. This was big for everyone. Everyone thought someone was going to win.
On the first of july the second continental congress met in Philadelphia and the same day 12 of the 13 colonies voted in favor for richard henry lee's motion for independence. Then the delegates spent 2 days working on it. On july 4th the congress published it. That was the day the declaration of independence began. On july 9th people actually started to like the declaration of independence. We started to celebrate it on july 4th is a holiday now. It took 2 weeks for the declaration to be engrossed. Most of the delegates signed on august 2nd but more even signed on a later date. Some of the delegates didn't even sign at all. After the declaration of independence the committee of five was charged with overseeing the reproduction of the approved text. On july 5th dunaps copies were dispatched across the 13 colonies to newspapers, local officials, and the commanders to the continental troops. The king was very rude and mean to the american colonies. There are complaints that the people have said, doesn’t let them pass laws, he refuses to let more people immigrant in the colonie, adds higher prices to things that don’t need to be rose, and he tries to start revolts. In 1776, the continental congress decided to get together to write a letter to thing of england to explain why they were fighting to be their own country.

The british a-runnin down the hill They haven't surenderd yet They were made to kill They ain't even done yet All dressed up in white warm cloths Getting ready to fight Preparing for the endless snows Be it day or night They fought killed and trained All for civil right Teaching how to fight they explained Creeping in and out of sight
Without the french the colonists might not have seceded in there fighting efforts. The french sent men like Marquis De Lafayette to train up some patriot soldiers so they weren't an absolute dumpster-fires when they fought. The french and patriots use guerilla tactics to surround and make the british surrender at the final battle of yorktown. In the battle of yorktown the french showed up at just the right time to stop the british resupply from the port. Without the french 28 ships defeated the british navy to hold a good pirimater around the british. T hey then forced the british to surrender or face starving.
The french gave over 20.000 troops to the colonies to help them fight the british. The french also gave the americans 400 million dollars. The french helped a massive amount. Do you think the colonists would have won the war without the french help.

Hessians versus Patriots Patriots versus Hessians While all the world was playin’ These two forces were fightin’
The Hessians had been brought into the war to help the British. These soldiers were generally Germans that were forced into the force because they were without work anyways. In America these soldiers were rather feared as they exercised extreme brutality toward the colonists. Contrary to popular belief, the possibility of the Hessians being surprised in the morning of the 26 of December is surprisingly slim. These soldiers were well trained in art of battle and were probably instructed not to drink the night before. Also, believe it or not, but these troops, because they were just hired out, were also hired by the French to supplement their war effort. At that time Germany was not a single unified country, it was many separate states ruled by many princes. Each province or state would rent out their soldiers to supplement their income. This would keep the taxes low and the prince would still be rather rich. The prince of the German province went by the name of Hesse-Cassel, earning his soldiers the name of “Hessian” in the Americas. There was also great opposition in the decision to hire the German soldiers. It was seen as “cruel and uncaring… [to hire] men to slaughter his own people.” and that is not including that the soldiers were not there because they wanted to be, it was because that was where they were told to go. And the money that the British were sending toward the Hessians was going directly at the Prince barely any was going into the soldiers’ pockets. In the end however much the colonists did not want this to happen, some of the hessians decided that the best decision was to stay in the Americas and find work their. So long story short, the colonists were living beside the people they fought against. Would the British have met less opposition to the war if they had not hired the Hessians?

L is for Lexington The battle of Lexington kicked off the war Of which many heros would rise For the the British it went down hill And led to their demise
A painting of the battle of Lexington
The battle of Lexington was very small, a fight rather than a battle. It was led by Captain John Parker of the Americans. They were up against a larger force led by Major John Pitcairn of the British. The two sides didn’t expect a fight, but someone fired. This shot, or “The shot heard around the world” as it was called by Ralph Waldo Emerson in his poem, Concord Hymn, was probably an accident. No one knows fired this very first shot. Not even if they were on the side of the British or the Americans. One thing to note is the difference in they numbers of the armies. The British had a strong number of around 700, while the Americans had only around 80. After the first shot, British soldiers moved forward to shoot with their bayonets. After the smoke cleared out, eight militiamen lay dead. Only one red coat was injured in the crazed fighting. After this, the British would march on to Concord. The Battle of Lexington may have been small, but it started the most important war in American history, because it was our first. The Americans fought bravely for what they believed in. is for minutemen
The colonists were fighting for their rights, John Parker was a leader in the fight, He started a group known as the minutemen, They were ready in a minute with a lot of might. Minutemen were a small hand-picked group of skilled military men. They were typically about 25 years of age or younger. They were selected by their commanding officers because of their enthusiasm, reliability, and physical strength. They were given supplies and instructed to be ready in a minutes notice. On April 19, 1775 the first great test of the minutemen was at the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The Continental Congress, on July 18, 1775, recommended that other colonies organize groups of minutemen. The militia and minutemen resisted the British on April 19 in Lexington and Concord. This conflict helped the colonial forces face little opposition moving across the Concord bridge to meet the British. The battle site in Concord, Massachusetts, is the present-day site of the Minute Man National Historic Park.

Brayden morse
New York was one of the 13 Colonies. It was a very big place of trade as well. Almost one third of all the battles in there war were here including Fort Ticonderoga the Battles of Oriskany, Newtown and Saratosa are just a few of the major events that took place on New York soil. Most were farmers; others were bakers, shipbuilders, millers, shopkeepers, tailors, brewers, butchers, carpenters, wheelwrights, blacksmiths, coopers, and school teachers. They had a lot of jobs.New york was the 10th state found. Giovanni Da Verrazzano was an italian explorer and we was the one that found New York. In the fall of 1777, the Americans achieved an important victory over the British in upstate New York at the Battle of Saratoga. British General John Burgoyne's surrender at that battle is often considered the 'turning point' of the war because it won French aid and because it kept the colonies strategically unified. And without the french they problem wont have won the war. One question i still have about the war is how hard was it to constantly be sending letters back and forth? We are the people of new york If we have to we will stab the british with are fork Then the british run to there fort Where they eat there pork

God saw them getting tired and a war just had to be, so he put his arms around them
and whispered “Come to me.”. We watched them come by thousands and saw them move this way. Although we had won dearly now we had to stay. A loving country won, the war was now at best. God helped them win to prove to us he only takes the best. The continental army was mostly supplemented by local militias and volunteer troops. They did most of the actual fighting. The general was the commander in chief of those militias and volunteers. There were also lieutenants who helped out the general and were often in power of many troops and some officers in command. George washington was a general for the continental army. Some of his responsibilities were coming up with battle plans, sending troops to assist other general’s troops, keeping track of supply transactions, and many other things. He served two terms and was later selected to be the first president of our country. He was responsible for most of the major wins during the revolutionary war. At the start of the American revolution the continental army needed a way to have organized troops so they appointed generals and lieutenants to keep the troops in order. The role of the lieutenant was crucial to the success of the regiment. The lieutenant had to lead the men by his judgement, bravery, and vigilance. The lieutenant taught the soldiers discipline, order and protocol. Question: I wonder if the british had a different way of organizing their troops and army?

is for Patriots
When the British became irritating The Patriots were born to start hating They way they were being treated They thought they could beat Being under British control The Patriots were a large group of people (men and women) in the colonies who didn’t want to be under British control. They wanted to be independent. They were pushed to this point when the British had done many unbearable acts. Some people felt strongly enough to make a specific group of Patriots. They sprouted up due to the unfairness. They were called the Sons of Liberty. Though people wanted to be independent and were on the side of Patriots, it was the Sons of Liberty that really put things into action. They would organize protests against acts that the British would do or put on the colonies. The Sons of Liberty would even get the average patriot to help them. Some Patriots would even stop going to British-supporting stores. Although, along with the Patriots in the colonies, there were the Loyalists. Loyalists were some people in the colonies, made up 15-20 percent of population, who supported, or stayed loyal to, the crown. The Patriots ultimately beat the British, and won the Revolutionary War. The Patriots’ strong and courageous leaders helped the Patriots win. Thomas Paine was a very important Patriot who wrote a book called Common Sense. Due to this book, there was a boost in the population of Patriots. Another famous Patriot was George Washington. He was the head of the Continental Army. He soon became the President. The Patriots strong belief about being free, having fair leaders, and more, burned stronger in the hearts of the Patriots, than the British could ever believe. ●

Ris for Redcoats but they also wore blue. on ships redcoats wore red because they thought if they get shot itll hide the blood they also could not fight.in the rain because the gunpowder would evaporate so in the snow they put clothes on their guns.the colonist fought back with better guns that could be used in the rain. The Redcoats. were hired by mayors of towns for a bit but instead they stayed there and caused havoc. So they killed about 100,000 people in the Revolutionary war. They gave up and went to new places but Boston hated the Redcoats so they fought them outta there city and they won. So they had there Boston back. But they still had an army it was George Washington's army. So they survived the Revolutionary war well most of the colonist didn't survive but it paid off because they got the Redcoats of of Boston. Did you know the redcoats didn't even stop the people that was dropping the tea in the water because they were scared. So millions and millions of dollars were dropped in the water and because it was raining and the redcoats couldn't reach them so that day the colonist cherred whop whop huray and everyone lived happily ever after.

The British are surrounded by 20,000 men In fear they pray for their sins And they make amends In the Saratoga Battle winds
In the fall of 1777, September 19th, the British Major General John Burgoyne collided with The Continental Army. Lead by Horatio Gates who unlike the British General was receiving reinforcements every day. In the battle, many British officers were killed. As a result, the British advances began to crumble; the German reinforcements hit hard and the Continental Army withdrew. Even though the Colonist lost the field they had half the casualties of the British. Burgoyne won the field, but with being low on supplies and no reinforcements, Burgoyne launched a second attack on Saratoga. Even without reinforcements the British and the stubborn Germans held up. Just as the American assault began to falter; Benedict Arnold appeared with a fresh bergad behind him and forced the British back to the field. Overwhelmed the British tried to retreat, but Gates surrounded the British with 20,000 men. So John Burgoyne surrendered his sword to Gates. With this outstanding victory Gates was almost appointed the leader of the Continental Army instead of Washington. In the end Gates didn't get the job.

Poem
The battle was ferocious The battle of trenton Men fighting gunshots Loud and clear men trying to get to the denton
Paragraphs General Washington marched through the icy Delaware on the 25th of December to ambush the hessians. Approximately Washington had 2400 men with him. They had to march through three frozen icy rivers to get to trenton. Hessians mean a native or inhabitant of the German state of Hesse. The hessians were highly skilled German soldiers. King Charles William Ferdinand ("Prince Carl") told Britain's king king George III that he would lend some of his men so he could win. King Charles gave 30,000 Hessian soldiers to Great Britain. Britains soldiers were called Red coats by the colonists. British soldiers marched in a straight line. The british thought that was the true way to fight. The Hessians lost the battle of trenton. And the Battle encouraged others to fight in the war against the british.

is for uniforms by Olivia Dean
The British marched in red and white. The U.S.A marched in blue to fight. The Hessians of green, sided with red. But the french appealed to the blue in spite. The continental army had many different varieties of uniforms they would wear during battle. They used long brown coats during 1779. Not long after they wore blue coats, white waistcoats and facings of varying colors. When they first started they weren't trained officers and most of them didn’t have uniforms so they would wear what they had. Their uniforms were made of wool coat, with a collar and cuffs. A hat that was turned up on the side, a cotton or linen shirt, and a vest. The British were known as the “Red Coats” because they often wore bright red coats during battle. They sometimes wore the color blue. They had very specific uniforms that they would wear. The uniforms were important because if you were to wear the same clothes as the other side you could accidentally kill someone of your own. The french would wear a short tailed coat with lapels on it, it would have seven small buttons and four fastened buttons below that. There would be two buttons on the cuff and two more above that. A standing collar and pockets that are blue and white. Question: What was the common weapon that a foot soldier was carrying ?

The young do they know, of the world way back then. General Washington for the lack of a jacket seeing his men frozen to death. Having empathic foresight to speak to you from the future, here in the past. A British spy, possibly a loyalist had observed the activities at the Ordnance repository had reported the stores included 3800 barrels or flour, soap, and candles. 25 of them were horseshoes, several thousand were tomahawks, kettles, and intrenching tools, while 20 barrels had hogshead of resin. During the battle of Valley Forge the British only suffered one loss the loss Major Craigs horse in the gunfire. :( A french officer, who provided another noteworthy addition to Washington’s staff at Valley Forge. Lafayette arrived at the camp with the army in 1777. The battle of valley Forge ended almost as quickly as it began. For the British it was a victory, Lee dispatched a messenger to washington describing with feelings of anxiety on what had passed, and that Hamilton had fallen in battle. is Yankee Doodle By Hannah Stenger
Yankee doodle went to town, Riding on a poney; Stuck a feather in his hat, And called it macaroni!
Yankee Doodle was not an actual person it was just a tune for the revolutionary war in which the british used to mock the americans. It backfired and the patriots began singing the tune with pride. They sung it at the battles of lexington a concord to insult the british. Fun fact about Yankee Doodle is the word macaroni, as it is used in the tune, was a slang term meaning stylish or fashionable. The song is the state anthem for Connecticut. At first the song was a nursery rhyme and instead of yankee it used to be nankee before the surgeon changed it. There are many different versions of the song. The tune became popular when general Cornwallis surrendered it was like a ‘hey you made fun of us but we got you back’ moment. The word doodle, as it is used in the song, means someone who is a fool or a stimpleton. Question: Where did the song get its name from?
