The American Revolution was a war between the colonies and Britain that took place between 1765 and 1783. The American Patriots in the 13 colonies won the war against Great Britain, becoming the United States of America. They defeated the British in the American Revolutionary war in alliance with France and others.

Members of American colonial society didn't want to pay taxes because they believed in ​"​no​ taxation without representation​". Starting with the ​Stamp Act ​in 1765.

Protests escalated to the ​Boston Massacre​ in 1770. Followed by the ​Boston Tea Party in December 1773, during which Patriots destroyed a crates of taxed tea and throwing them in the harbor. The British responded by closing Boston Harbor.

In late 1774 the colonist set up ​their own government​. ​Other colonists stayed loyal to the Crown and were known as​ loyalist​. A battle between patriot militia and British happened when the king's army attempted to capture and destroy the patriots military supplies at​ ​Lexington and Concord​ on April 19, 1775. This is how the war started. The fought many wars until​ a American and French force captured a second British army ​at Yorktown​ in the fall of 1781, effectively ending the war.

Benjamin Franklin was born in boston on ​January 17, 1706.​ He was the 10th son of the soap maker, Josiah Franklin. Benjamin’s mother was Abiah Folger the 2nd wife of Josiah Franklin, in all, Josiah would father 17 children. Josiah intended for Benjamin to enter into the clergy. However Josiah could only afford to send his son to school for one year and clergymen needed years of school. Benjamin loved to read, he had him apprenticed to his brother James who has a printer. After helping James compose pamphlets and set type which was grueling work. 12 year old Benjamin would sell their products in the streets. When Benjamin was 15 years old his brother started “The New England Courant’’, the ‘’first’’ newspaper in Boston.

He wanted to write for the paper too but he knew James would not let him.

After all, Benjamin was just a lowly apprentice. So Benjamin would sneak the letters at night and signing them with the name ‘’Fictional Widow’’.

Before long the Franklin’s found themselves at odds with Boston’s puritan preachers. ?why wasn’t James happy with Benjamin Franklin continuing the newspaper while James was in jail?

Even though he didn’t always win he never surrendered his army.

George Washington became the 1st president of the United States. Instead of seizing power he decided to resign being the commander. They don’t know much about George Washington’s young life. In 1750 France and Britain were still at peace. George Washington was the one who opposed the stamp act.

George Washington did not take a big role in the war until the widespread of the Townshend act. Washington proved to be better at being a general the being in the military. He made laws when he was president that still live today. He is the only president to had never occupied the White House.

The hessians helped the Great Britain army. They were German soldiers Who helped Great Britain get more Manpower to try to win the wars. The Hessians sided with the redcoats During the revolutionary war.

The Hessians played a very Important role for the British in the war. They came over and helped British fight America. They outnumber America by a lot. The Americans had to figure out a plan to Somehow take out the red coats.

The Hessians were trained to fight in open fields and not with rough terrain.

When they were in the war they had to get used to the terrain and the weather. The Americans were taught to fight behind cover And not out in the open.

Many of the Hessians died in this War and they lost. They surrendered in 1783, 7 years after the war started. They were losing Bad so they decided to surrender and go home.They signed the Peace Treaty with America 2 years after the war.

How did Thomas Jefferson become the main author of the Declaration of Independence?

During the Revolutionary war Thomas Jefferson served in the Virginia legislature, was in the Continental Congress, and was the governor of Virginia. Thomas Jefferson also was the main author of the Declaration of Independence. At the age of 33 he became one of the youngest people on the continental congress starting in 1775, the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. The Declaration of Independence explained why the 13 colonies wanted to be free of British rule and also went into detail about the rights of free men. The document was adopted on July 4, 1776.

Thomas Jefferson was considered one of our Founding Fathers along with 6 other men…(Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Jay, James Madison, and George Washington.)

The Battles of Lexington and Concord, fought on April 19, 1775, kicked off the American Revolutionary War (1775-83). Tensions had been building for many years between residents of the 13 American colonies and the British authorities, particularly in Massachusetts. On the night of April 18, 1775, hundreds of British troops marched from Boston to nearby Concord in order to seize an arms cache. Paul Revere and other riders sounded the alarm, and colonial militiamen began mobilizing to intercept the Redcoat column.

A confrontation on the Lexington town green started off the fighting, and soon the British were hastily retreating under intense fire. Many more battles followed, and in 1783 the colonists form

Of independence.

Minutemen were part of the Patriots. They were ordinary people in the colonies, who fought for liberty. They knew their lives were at risk, but wanted the generations ahead of them to have liberty.

The minutemen always worked around the clock. They gathered all the information they could for the Patriots. If they lived above secret meetings of the British, they would lean against the floor boards to find information. Some women would sew information into their kids buttons, and they would deliver the information.

As you can see, minutemen were very important. Even though they were important, people seemed to look over them. Minutemen also could be women or men, they had secret signs, and wanted liberty too.

The Continental Navy was authorized by the Continental Congress on October 13, 1775. The original intent was to intercept a british fleet caring supplies such as food, weapons and other things. In the beginning there was only supposed to be several ships for this task however on the end of October George Washington had purchased four armed vessels. On December 22, 1775, Esek Hopkins was appointed the naval commander-in-chief, and officers of the navy were commissioned. Around April 6, 1776 congress had added 13 frigates to the fleet which were constructed as warships. Their mission was multi-purpose, but their most important duty was to serve as on-board security forces, protecting the Captain of a ship and his officers. During naval engagements Marine sharpshooters were stationed in the fighting tops of the ships' masts, and were supposed to shoot the opponent's officers, naval gunners, and helmsman.

The quartering act was a very unfair act to the colonists,they had to pay for soldiers their food ,water,salt ,transportation,and more.For the soldiers hey were living pretty good They lived in a free house ,they didn't have to pay for food.

The colonists had to help house the soldiers ,help feed and give water to them.They also had to give them transportation as well as give them firewood,salt ,and utensils. The colonist felt that this violated the bill of rights.Some refused to co with this act.

The quartering act was well led to the revolutionary along with many others like-The Stamp Act,Currency Act,Boston Massacre ,The Boston Tea Party,and The battle of Lexington and Concord. The Mutiny act was the act that led to the quartering Act. The Quartering Act stated that American colonists were to find accommodations for British soldiers which could include barracks, Inns, private homes, barnes and even livery stables. ​The Quartering Act was actually an extension of the Mutiny Act of 1686 which had clauses pertaining to the housing of British soldiers in homes in the American colonies.

The Bill of Rights prohibited the existence of a standing army during peacetime without the consent of parliament.

Paul Revere was a American silversmith and a patriot. He took a big part in the Boston Tea Party and was a principal rider for the Boston’s Committee of Safety. In that role he devised a series or lanterns to warn the minutemen of a British attack and set up his famous ride on April 18, 1775.

Revere was born was on January 1, 1735 and died on May 10, 1818. He was born on the North End in Boston, MA and also died in Boston MA. He was buried at ​Granary Burying Ground, Boston, MA​. He had 13 kids and had 2 wives, Rachel Walker (​1773–1813) and Sarah Orne (1757–1773). He also has 7 siblings.

The sneakiest battle is perhaps the battle of Trenton.

George Washington and his men crossed the river of Delaware.

Under the cover of night they snuck up on the Hessians soldiers.

This battle is what got our teachers attention.

It was early December, 1776. Things were looking bad for the colonist, who were fighting for independence from great Britain. They had been losing one battle after another. They had been forced to flee through New Jersey to get to pennsylvania. Most of the troops had their enlistment time coming to an end, and the morale for them to come back was pretty low. But George Washington was a man who would not ever give up easily. He had planned a surprise attack against the Hessians, and he planned it to take place in the early morning. An attack against the unprepared hessians, and their soon to be dead generals. The sneakiest attack of the war was this.

The battle was fought on December 26th, 1776. The had to cross the Delaware River in the dead of night, and made it to Trenton completely unnoticed. The hessians were completely disorganized, and were easy pickings for the Continental army. The Hessians suffered a terrible defeat, and more than 1000 of them were captured. Many people say that none, or a very small number of Washington’s soldiers died, and the hessians lost 23-83 soldiers. The battle were warned of the attack, but did nothing about it, and some of the officers even advised the commanders to fortify the town. It was an easy victory for the americans and their thinking.

The United States of America is what the colonists called the country during the Revolutionary War. The U.S fought against Britain in the Revolutionary war led by George Washington. The U.S used tactics to not lose as many soldiers. They blended in with their surroundings. Their clothes were not bright so that they were not that noticeable. The U.S was very much outnumbered by the British. The British had nearly 8 million soldiers whereas the U.S had only 2.5 million. This would be a tough one to win for the Americans.

George Washington led the Americans in to many battles and lost more than they won. The Americans were considering getting a new leader. They ended up not firing him though. He won most of the important battles. He led them into the battle of Trenton where they crossed the Delaware overnight and ambushed a fleet of Hessian soldiers. That was an important part of their win.

George Washington was notified that General Cornwallis was setting up camp in Yorktown. The U.S went into battle. They killed many of the british troops. The French helped the Americans by taking out the British navy. General Cornwallis was forced to surrender after his escape attempt was sabotaged by a rainstorm during the night. George Washington and the rest of the colonists had defeated the British and had won their independence.

Valley forge was A painful time Where people Only wanted a lime In May 1778, word arrived at Valley Forge that the French had entered the war on the side of the colonists! That changed everything!

Upon hearing the French had entered the war, the British troops in Philadelphia departed the city and marched towards New York. With its many waterways, New York offered a much better position should the French send their navy.

Washington and his (by now) trained troops secured Philadelphia, cleaned up Valley Forge, and marched towards New York in pursuit of the British.

Women played critical parts in the revolutionary war they were considered our founding mothers during the war.The women usually followed their husbands in the continental army,they tended to the domestic side of the army like cooking washing and providing medical help when needed.The women also played roles as being spies and secret soldiers.Abigail Adams famously corresponded with her husband when he was in philadelphia telling him to “Remember the Ladies.” Mercy Otis Warren was also a politic in the war but she was on the british side.

Women also wrote notes to george washington and king george the III.They sent the letters by sewing them to clothing on their children’s clothing and sent them to generals in certain areas.Women who help run stores would listen to what each army was talking about and then tell generals to warn each army.The women cooked good meals for their soldiers so they could fight with energy.The women who played the role as a spies also wrote to the british lies so the rebels had the upper hand.Women also wrote with a secret ink that only the rebel army could find out what it said, George Washington’s secret ink that looked invisible.

Women where a great help during the war and this help even went into modern day wars.Women were thought to be just for house work until the war broke out and the army needed somebody to cook and tend to the soldiers.Now women help in the army marine corp. Navy.Women are the evolution in the fights.

1781 General George Washington led the Americans into battle at Yorktown where Cornwallis ’and his troops were. Washington was the first to shoot the cannon to tell them that they were ready to fight.Around 8,000 British troops surrendered in yorktown.General Cornwallis said he was sick and didn't show up to the surrender. He sent General Charles O'Hara to surrender his sword.The battle lasted around 20 days. The American and French had around 18,000 troops, significantly outnumbering the 8,000 troops of the British.The British leader, General Cornwallis, was expecting to get reinforcements from the British Navy. When the French defeated the British Navy and prevented them from sending help, Cornwallis knew he was going to lose the battle.

He wrote a newspaper that spoke the truth.

He thought that people had the right the speak their mind, even if it means that he could fined.

Zenger thought he was right, and he had the proof.

As editor of the ​New York Gazette​, Peter Zenger showed his dislike over Governor William Cosby and thought that everybody had the right to speak their mind over politics, and everything else. Born on October 6th, 1697, Peter Zenger married​ ​Anna Catharina Maul. As an apprentice with William Bradford for eight years, Peter had a strong dislike for New York's new governor, William Cosby.

Peter one day wrote how he was feeling about Cosby in the paper. He believed that every man had the choice speak what they believed in without being punished for it. Soon after the paper was published, Peter was arrested for libel. Remaining in prison for ten months, he was finally brought to a trial in August, 1735. In spite of his crimes, Peter had a amazing lawyer, Andrew Hamilton. Andrew argued that the jury itself was competent to decide the truth of Perter’s printed statements were correct.

On this day, they established the first important victory for the freedom of the press. This helped the Revolutionary war by showing the citizens that it was time for a change. It persuaded them that they needed to be free from the British’s laws.
