Stage 1: Egg A female hen lays up to 1 or 2 eggs a day. Some eggs are for breakfast, and some are the ones with the chick. The shell of the egg looks USD 5.00 solid like stone. But it actually has a lot of holes to let air in for the chick. This takes up to 1 day. 1

Stage 2: Embryo The chick is growing. Now it is called an Embryo. A hen\chicken always lays her eggs in the morning. This takes up to 5 days. 2

Stage 3: Mini Chick An eye starts to appear on the Embryo. Now it's almost a Mini Chick. A chick cracking a egg with it's tooth is called pipping This takes up to 9 days.

Stage 4: Chick The baby is starting to grow up. And it is almost ready to be a chick. It takes 21 days for a chick to hatch.

What a Chick Eats A chick eats feed. Feed is a mix of grains. They need feed to survive. A chicken eats grain, insects, and sometimes human food.

How a Chick Protects it's Offsprings A hen/chicken sits on her eggs for 21 days, to make sure they are warm. But to also make sure they are safe.
How a Chick Protects Itself: Chickens have spurs on their feet, to protect their selves from other animals during a fight.
