STAGE #1:AN EGG

A hen lays an egg in the morning. In the egg, lots of things are going on. When a hen first lays an egg, it needs to be fertilized by a rooster to hatch. First, there is a embryo growing inside. That is a baby chick. In a couple of days, a eye starts to appear on the embryo. It's almost hatching day!

For a chick to break out of the shell, it uses a bump on it's beak called an egg tooth. . When it comes out, it is wet and sticky. But later they become dry and fluffy. Farm raised chicks eat feed.

As a chick, it stays around its mother. A five month old chick is old enough to lay an egg.
