Newborn The First Stage

The first stage of the wolf life cycle is a newborn. The alpha wolves mate in February. The baby cubs grow inside their mother for about 8-9 weeks. The mother wolf goes inside a den to give birth. A den is a small cave or a hole dug out of the ground. About 4-6 cubs are born together. When they are born, they weigh about 1 pound and they cannot see because their eyes are closed and they cannot hear.

Wolf Cub The Second Stage

The second stage of a wolf life cycle is a wolf cub also known as a pup. In 3 weeks their eyes open and get to hear and walk. The cubs can eat meat but they still drink their mother's milk. When they are 8 weeks old they stop drinking milk and only eat meat. 10 weeks after they are born the cubs get out of the den. Cubs play tag and fight which helps cubs hunt in their future. When the pack goes hunting one wolf stays and babysits the cubs.
