序 — 安卓藝術五周年的回視與展望

安卓藝術滿五歲了，從五年前我們在內湖推出首場中國年
帶來各種藝術養分和刺激。這幾年，不僅旗下藝術家在創

Foreword—The Retrospection and Envisioning of the MSAC 5th Anniversary Mind Set Art Center (MSAC) turns five years old. From the gallery’s first exhibition Where is Here? to the two-part complete th 5 anniversary exhibition ReVision at Xinsheng 16 conception space, and from one bold recommendation of a twenty-seven1 year-old artist to the thirtieth exhibition , MSAC has grown from the initial team of only two members to the present scale within five years. We believe that everyone has witnessed our efforts and the results, which have and will surely withstand the test of time. We deeply appreciate all kinds of supports that many people have provided MSAC throughout the years. We are also extremely proud of this creative adventure of artistic construction and cultural production, in which the MSAC team has had the privilege to continuously collaborate with artists and collectors. ReVision—5th Anniversary Special Presentation 1 & 2 exhibits brilliant works of twenty international and Taiwanese artists in two presentations that span the time of two and a half months. The exhibiting works are mainly from artists represented by or have been in long-term collaboration with MSAC. A part of the works also comes from different collectors’ collections, which displays the fruitful results of MSAC’s professional art consulting since its establishment. If the 2010 exhibition, Utopia-Asian Contemporary Art Group Exhibition, proposed MSAC’s regional perspective based on Asian contemporary art at the commencement of the gallery, ReVision further reveals our artistic vision after MSAC has transcended the cultural boundary between the East and the West together with artists and collecth tors. In addition to paintings, the twenty artists in this 5 anniversary special presentation also present a diverse body of work, including photos, sculptures, installations, works on paper, and mixed media etc. In the past five years, apart from introducing multiple solo exhibitions of outstanding international artists to Taiwanese audience, MSAC has also strived to introduce Taiwanese artists to Hong Kong, Beijing, Manila as well as other Asian cities in dif2 ferent ways . Through such a practice of consistent collaborations or exchanges in various forms with international galleries,

In addition to the thirty exhibitions held at MSAC, we have also assisted various organizations and spaces in curating exhibitions, participated in domestic art fairs for five times, and published nearly twenty exhibition and individual artist catalogues in the past five years. Since the establishment, MSAC has assisted artist Shi Jin-Hua in organizing two exhibitions in a Hong Kong gallery and Art HK, curated Tang Jo-Hung’s solo exhibition at Beijing 798 in 2011, and the very first exhibition of Taiwanese contemporary art, Body / Narrator, at Silverlens Gallery, Manila. Starting from 2015, MSAC will be even more active in joining international art fairs. From 2012 to 2014, we had participated in Art Taipei in three consecutive years, and captured the attention of multiple domestic collectors as MSAC had extended the exhibition area twice the size bigger than the previous year each

all kinds of artistic nourishment and stimulation have become lastingly available for MSAC and its artists. In recent years, the creative quality and marketability of MSAC artists have steadily grown, which is tremendous consolation for us. MSAC will endeavor to promote and introduce our artists into different regional markets through various channels and more active efforts in attending international art fairs and working with internation3 al partner galleries . Since the outset, MSAC has also been endeavored in the education of collectors, and has already offered seven terms of collector courses, of which the total course hours have amounted to more than two hundred and twenty-five hours, and nurtured a group of young collectors captivated by contemporary art. In addition to intensive courses and talks, MSAC has planned art learning tours for collectors in different cities every year since June 2011. We have visited Vienna, Venice, Basel, Berlin, Tokyo and Hong Kong, and have more than once visited large-scale artist retrospectives curated by major museums as well as artist studios, the Venice Biennale and Art Basel, fashioning a brand new 4 group of collectors for the contemporary art scene in Taiwan . MSAC has always been working on the communication of thoughts and mind, a business that aims to gradually transform people and environment through art. Although five years does not count as a long time, it still serves as a milestone as well as a brand new start for MSAC. We are truly glad to be able to share with more people about our romance towards life and insistence on the ideal through art. In the future, we believe and are confident that MSAC can conquer more challenges together with growing number of artists and collectors, not only continuing to develop more unique projects with different artists, but also providing more diverse artistic nourishment as well as advice for collectors. We will create another glorious page of history for contemporary art with time and our professionalism.

Beginning in 2015, MSAC’s presence will be seen more in excellent international art fairs instead of domestic art fairs in the attempt to prepare and consolidate its management of the international market for the next phase. Regarding nurturing and collaboration with collectors, Dr. Chen Bo-wen is an example of definite importance. Although with limited budget for his contemporary art collection, with the assistance of professional advice and persistent efforts, Dr. Chen has been able to build up a contemporary art collection within six years that has been recognized by international artists and media, such as a complete report on international art magazine, Art Asian Pacific, and an invitation to participate in 3rd Annual Collectors’ Contemporary Collaboration at Hong Kong Arts Center in March this year.
