note from your editor
Hello! Hope you all had a nice and relaxing summer! I've recently been catching up with APUSH notes and listening to LANY's new album :) I'm super happy that everything is transitioning back to in-person because I don't know about you, but I'm definitely over all the online Zoom events. Our club has a lot of fun events lined up throughout this next month, so we're really excited for you guys to be able to experience Key Club in-person! By the way, RTC is coming up soon, so I hope you guys are planning on attending. Enjoy the newsletter, and I hope to see you guys around campus <3 - Jackie Wang, Bulletin Editor
notes from your vps
How do you feel about coming back to school? I feel so good! Hello Key Clubbers and welcome back to school. It has been a grueling 1.5 years in quarantine and we’re finally back in person. MSJ Key Club is beyond excited to kick off an amazing school year for all of you with different in-person and activities, ranging from service events to fundraisers! We just want to thank every single of you for staying strong and healthy, and we cannot wait to see you all at our upcoming events! If you need anything, feel free to reach out to any officer and remember, the Key Club Family is always here for you! - Chloe Tse, Co-VP
Firstly, I want to applaud you all on your perseverance and dedication not only towards Key Club, but in holding on through this tough past year and a half of hardships. The covid 19 pandemic and online learning have been a huge burden on us all, but I believe that every experience in life, good or bad, has helped to shape us into the amazing individuals we are today. It has been beyond amazing being able to make memories with everyone, and whether it has been through a screen or face to face, I have made such unforgettable experiences with you all! I’m happy to say that as school activities are opening up once more, our events will be slowly shifting back to in person events, woohoo!! I look forward to all of the fun new events we have planned for MSJ Key Club, and I am so excited for what awaits us in 2021-2022, have a great school year everyone! - Ariel Kim, Co-VP

On July 18th, MSJ Key Club hosted their first in-person service event since the beginning of the pandemic! Collaborating with the Friends of Heirloom Flower Garden Club, members assisted in gardening, mulching, weeding, and setting up a plant sale at Shinn Historical Park and Arboretum, a cozy green space with beautiful gardens, including a rose garden, cottage garden, and Japanese garden. Members, finally meeting fellow peers that’ve only existed as little Zoom squares for the past year, quickly reunited with old friends and enthusiastically gardened with people they’ve never seen in person before! The feedback for this event was extremely positive, and everyone who attended had a splendid time socializing with each other, while gulping down cold drinks and mochi candy after a long three hours of gardening!
maze day 2021! written by bharat sharma, meetings coord
As we do every year, MSJ Key Club utilized Maze Day as an opportunity to attract incoming freshman and other students to Key Club. We put in a lot of effort to make our booth stand out, and we did just that. We had various attractions including free candy, a $10 raffle if you signed up, a bubble machine, and the whole booth was decorated with Key Club merch and colors. In the end, we were able to get up to 120 people from various grades to sign up for our mailing list. Through this mailing list, we will send updates about all our upcoming events, meetings, fundraisers, and various other opportunities. We hope to see all the people who signed up for our mailing list at our future events!
we reached almost 140 signups on our mailing list! view all the pictures at tinyurl.com/kcmazeday21

For those looking to exercise this summer, we created the ideal service event, all while making a positive impact. From July 25th to August 15th, we held an asynchronous event, “Miles for Smiles.” Through this opportunity, participants used the app, Charity Miles to track the amount of miles walked, ran, or even cycled! For each mile, Charity Miles donated money to the participant’s charity of choice. Ranging from environmental preservation to providing education to underprivileged kids, there were many purposes to contribute to! Overall, it was a super fulfilling event, with a dual benefit of exercising and supporting many of 40+ non profit charities.

On August 15th, Fremont Key Clubs Irvington, American, Washington, MSJ, and Basis Independent Fremont held a summer bonding at Lake Elizabeth. Attendees participated in a number of activities, including tie dying shirts, rock painting, water balloon games, a scavenger hunt, and capture the flag! Key Clubbers were incredibly supportive and encouraging to everyone throughout the activities, as well as excited to see everyone in-person again. Personally, I was able to meet and talk to so many people, especially when we all gathered into team activities like the scavenger hunt, where we ran around Lake Elizabeth to gather our clues. It ended at lunchtime, during which pizza and milk tea were sold as a club fundraiser. Overall, the bonding was a fun one, with laid back crafting/painting to energy-filled games. I definitely look forward to the next one!
thank you to all the attendees <3

thank you to erik's delicafe for donating $500 to our fundraiser! all proceeds went to the non-profit organization, Room to Read
what does key gitali teckchandi, grade 10 as an incoming sophomore, i first joined key club during distance learning, and most of the times only was able to see other key clubbers on zoom, which wasn't actually that bad, as i had the oppurtunity to watch key club grow to new heights as it adjusted to current covid situations. now that in person school is underway, i can say with much confidence that key club will continue to grow with the support of all the officers & members. meeting in person opens so many more doorways to serve the community, and bond with others, even more than being virtual can. that being said, during the school year i'm most looking forward to interacting with other key clubbers in person, attending a variety of different events/meetings, and making countless memories at the same time<3

I have boundless hope for MSJ Key Club during the 2021-2022 school year -- both for the trajectory of our club and the relationship and bonds formed by our members. Traditionally, MSJ Key Club has always been known as a “service club” but in recent years, we’ve become so much more. From club bondings to movie nights, to study sessions, MSJ Key Club has gone above and beyond to help members build relationships and bonds while making positive impacts in their community. In the coming year, I am sincerely looking forwards to expanding and sustaining this legacy for both myself and all of our treasured members, new or old, in MSJ Key Club!
