MSUB women’s basketball senior Alisha Breen named a preseason All-American by the DII Women’s Basketball Bulletin.

BILLINGS, Mont. – Alisha Breen of the MSUB women’s basketball team has been named a preseason Super 16 AllAmerican and Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year by the Women’s Basketball DII Bulletin announced this week.

Breen, a senior forward for the Yellowjackets, led the GNAC in scoring last season with an average 17.4 points per game.

The native of Choteau, Mont., was a unanimous GNAC first team selection last season, ranking in the top-20 in 12 major conference categories. Breen was first in scoring, 12th in rebounds (5.4pg), sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (38.8), and 16th in assists (2.4pg).

Last season, Breen scored 557 points, collected 173 rebounds, and added 76 assists, 16 block shots, and 46 steals. She finished the year ranked 29th in NCAA Division II in minutes per game at 36.4 and was 42nd in field goals made with 193.

Entering this season for the Yellowjackets, Breen is 12th all-time in points at 1,210, third in free-throws made with 343, and 20th in rebounds at 529. In the GNAC, Breen ranks third all-time in free-throws and is 116 points from moving into the top-20 in scoring.

Last season Breen was a two-time GNAC Player of the Week and a preseason all-GNAC pick. For her performance in the classroom, she is a two-time academic all-conference honoree.

The Yellowjackets ended last year with a 21-11 overall record. MSU Billings was the runner-up at the GNAC tournament, advancing to the NCAA west region tournament for the second time in three years.

Breen scored 20 or more points in 13 games last season, topped by a 37-point performance against Academy of Art on Nov. 14 that tied her for the seventh best scoring performance in GNAC history. She also posted a 31-point performance in the Yellowjackets’ west region tournament game at Azusa Pacific.

The 2016-17 season for the Yellowjackets begins at Alterowitz Oct. 21, with an Alumni Game at 7 p.m. MSUB plays a doubleheader with the men’s team against Montana Tech on Friday, Nov. 4, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The first conference game of the year is on the road at Northwest Nazarene on Dec. 1.
