Sam Mitchell Surrey, British Columbia Holy Cross Regional HS/Southwestern Oregon Community College 6’ – Outfielder Intended Major: Analytics An all-conference selection in the NWAC after his first year at SWOCC in 2016, Mitchell is batting .271 with a pair of home runs and 13 RBIs through 30 games so far this spring. He also has a dozen doubles and has swiped 11 bases, and has had five multi-hit games this season. As a prep player in British Columbia, Mitchell was a 2014 BCPBL first-team selection and captured gold glove honors as well. He led his team the Cannons to a pair of final four appearances in the postseason tournament, and hit .395 with three home runs and 13 doubles while driving in 17 in 45 at-bats his senior season. Mitchell on choosing MSUB: “What was most important in finding where I would continue with baseball and my education was finding a coach I could have a solid foundation with, a team that had a great group of guys who want to compete for championships, and somewhere that would really feel like home. Everything about MSUB covered those aspects I was focusing on. I could not be happier about becoming a part of the Yellowjacket family, and I look forward to the great atmosphere that surrounds the program in these coming years.” Coach Sutton on Mitchell: “Sam is a dynamic player overall, and is an infielder and centerfielder with plus speed. He swings from the left side and has electric bat speed. He gives us versatility on the field defensively, and is a playmaker. We are excited to add him to this class.” Carson Woolery Caldwell, Idaho Caldwell High School/Walla Walla Community College 6’4” – Right-Handed Pitcher Intended Major: Public Relations Woolery also comes from the NWAC, where he is finishing his second season at Walla Walla CC. The righty leads the team with a 1.42 earned run average, and has 15 strikeouts against just three walks in 31 2/3 innings pitched. Woolery has been highly efficient this spring, with a stellar WHIP of 0.85.

Prior to his college career, Woolery was a three-year letterwinner on the mound under head coach Dan Richardson at Caldwell High School. Woolery on choosing MSUB: “I chose MSUB because of the great coaching staff and winning tradition.” Coach Sutton on Woolery: “Carson is a big, strong right-handed arm that pounds the strike zone and doesn’t give up a lot of hits. He has good sink on his pitches and lets his infield play. This is his first year transitioning into being a pitcher only, and we have seen the strides he has made from his freshman year at Walla Walla.” The Yellowjackets completed the 2017 season on Thursday with a record of 23-29 overall, and tied for third place in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play at 21-19 in league games. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
