After serving MSUB’s athletics department for the past four years, compliance director Michael Bazemore has accepted a position as Associate Athletic Director at Truman State University.

BILLINGS, Mont. – After four years of service at Montana State University Billings in the athletics department, compliance director Michael Bazemore has accepted a position as associate athletic director at Truman State University beginning May 1.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank Krista Montague, Montana State University Billings, and the city of Billings for helping me grow professionally and personally,” Bazemore commented. “MSUB has been great for me over the past few years and I am going to miss everyone in the department and university.”

Truman State is an NCAA Division II school that is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference and is located in Kirksville, Mo. MSUB will begin the process of filling the compliance director position upon Bazemore’s departure. He will continue to complete his duties in his current role through the end of April.

Bazemore has handled the NCAA compliance duties as well as internal operations for the Yellowjackets for the last three years, and previously worked in gameday operations and communications with MSUB. Prior to Bazemore’s appointment at MSUB, he completed an internship with the department.

A native of Philadelphia, Penn., Bazemore completed his master’s degree at Montana State University Billings in sports, recreation and fitness management in May of 2014. His undergraduate studies were completed at Michigan State University where he earned two bachelor’s degrees; Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary studies in social science (2005) and Bachelor of Arts in sociology (2006).

Bazemore attended Michigan State on an athletic scholarship, and was a four-year letterwinner for the varsity football team. He was a defensive starter for the 2004 and 2005 seasons, and earned academic all-Big-Ten honors during the 2002 season. Prior to Michigan State, Bazemore attended West Catholic Prep High School (Philadelphia, Penn.) and was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for Football in 2014.

After his tenure at Michigan State, Bazemore pursued a career in professional football. He attended the Detroit Lions rookie minicamp during the 2006 season, then played arena football from 2007 through 2011. While playing for the Billings Outlaws and Sioux Falls Storm, he was selected to the all-league team three times and earned three league championships.

As a graduate student, Bazemore held internship positions with the University of Sioux Falls and Montana State University Billings intercollegiate athletic departments.
