Recognizing the top-performing students among MSUB’s athletic teams, 26 student-athletes are honored at the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society during a ceremony on Tuesday.

BILLINGS, Mont. – A total of 26 student-athletes from 12 different Montana State University Billings athletic teams were honored during the athletic department’s annual Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society ceremony Tuesday night at the Northern Hotel downtown.

Membership in the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society is reserved for varsity student-athletes who maintain a grade point average of 3.40 or higher, and are in at least their junior year of academic eligibility within the university.

This year’s class of honorees featured 14 first-time student-athletes, and a dozen who had been inducted in previous years.

For the second year in-a-row, MSUB’s baseball team featured the most inductees with six, while MSUB’s softball and women’s basketball teams each had four inductees.

Twin brothers Drew Christina and Brett Christina of MSUB’s baseball team held the highest GPAs, and were the only two honored who had perfect marks of 4.00. Women’s cross country and track and field athlete Jinise Trueblood was close behind with a GPA of 3.99.

MSUB faculty athletic representative Dr. Scott Harris served as the master of ceremonies for the event, and MSUB chancellor Dr. Mark Nook and athletic director Krista Montague also shared comments and congratulations with the members being honored.

This year’s ceremony marked the fourth straight event for MSUB, which is the alpha chapter of the society in the state of Montana and is one of just two schools in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference to participate in the ceremony.

Nationwide, 42 states have member schools in the society, and the University of Montana Western is the lone other university in Montana featuring Chi Alpha Sigma.

The 14 new additions this year push the cumulative total of inductees to 96, including each induction class dating back to the inaugural ceremony in 2013.
