Rebekah Gasner, who has served as MSUB’s assistant compliance director in the past and was MSUB’s interim softball head coach last year, is named the department’s full-time compliance director.

BILLINGS, Mont. – Rebekah Gasner has been named the permanent director of compliance for the Montana State University Billings Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Monday.

“We are excited to introduce Bekah Gasner as our full-time compliance director, and are confident in her abilities to serve among the department’s senior administration,” commented Yellowjacket director of athletics Krista Montague.

“Bekah’s familiarity with the department, not only as a coach but as a former student-athlete, makes her a perfect fit for this position. We are happy that she will continue to be part of the Yellowjacket family.”

Gasner will officially assume the compliance director role effective June 1, after former director of compliance Michael Bazemore accepted an associate athletic director position at NCAA Division II Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., earlier in May.

“I’m very excited to continue within the athletics department, and am thankful for this opportunity to return to the compliance office,” said Gasner. “I’ve been fortunate to be a member of the softball coaching staff the past six years, and I’m looking forward to working with our wonderful coaches, administration, and student-athletes in my new role.”

Gasner served as the Yellowjackets’ interim softball head coach for the 2016 season, after being an assistant coach on the softball staff for five seasons. The Yellowjackets finished the 2016 season with a record of 14-36 and a mark of 6-22 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. A search for MSUB’s next softball head coach is currently underway.

During her time as an assistant coach, Gasner was also MSUB’s compliance coordinator, assisting the compliance director in daily duties. “We are confident that, with Bekah’s previous experience within the compliance department at MSUB, her transition to the lead role will be seamless,” Montague said. “All of our staff, studentathletes, and coaches rely on this position heavily, and with Bekah’s proven ability in the compliance office we know she is someone who can be counted on.”

The compliance director is a required position for all NCAA member institutions, whose primary duties involve maintaining integrity within the scope of the NCAA legislature and ensuring that the department is operating within the rules set forth by the NCAA. Gasner completed her fifth year as an assistant coach with the Yellowjackets in 2015, helping lead the squad to a Great Northwest Athletic Conference tournament championship, a second-place finish at the NCAA Division II West Region Championships, and an overall record of 31-23.

Gasner was also an assistant coach during MSUB's regional appearance in 2012, and was a pitcher on the team in 2009 which broke the school record for wins (39) and advanced to the regionals.

After finishing her career at MSUB among the top-five in career earned run average, strikeouts, innings pitched, and shutouts, Gasner played professionally for the Amsterdam Pirates in the Netherlands. She also spent time as an assistant coach at Billings Senior High School, before assuming her most recent position as MSUB assistant coach.

Gasner earned her master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in sport and exercise leadership from MSUB in 2015, after previously earning her bachelor’s degree in health and human performance.
