The Yellowjackets wrap up the three-round Chico State InterWest Classic on Tuesday and finish in 12th place. CHICO, Calif. – Completing the three-round Chico State University InterWest Classic on Tuesday, the Montana State University Billings men’s golf team posted a team score of 926 (309-307-310) to finish in 12th place at the par-72, 6,951yard Butte Creek Country Club. The Yellowjackets were led by freshman Braden Luper, who finished tied for 38th place with a three-round total of 228 (73-74-81). Luper started the tournament with a bang, carding four birdies in each of his first two rounds on Monday. He then played the front-9 on Tuesday at 1-over-par with another birdie and seven pars in his final round. Juniors Connor Miele and Michael Porter finished strongly for the Yellowjackets, as each player turned in a round of 74 on the final day. For Miele, it was the second straight 74 at the tournament, as he overcame an 81 in the first round to finish tied for 42nd place overall with a 229 (81-74-74). Porter finished tied for 53rd with a 232 (81-77-74). After just one birdie his first time through the course, Miele saved strokes nine times over his next two rounds with four birdies in Round 2 and five in Round 3. Porter showed steady improvement over his three rounds as well, with two birdies in the second round and three more in the third.
