After placing third at the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational last week, MSUB men’s golf junior Connor Miele earns GNAC Golfer of the Week honors Monday. PORTLAND, Ore. – A 1-under-par 143 (72-71) by junior Connor Miele at the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational last week earned the Montana State University Billings men’s golfer Great Northwest Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week honors announced by the conference office Monday. Miele took third place at the tournament overall, and helped the Yellowjackets claim the team title with a score of 578 (293-285). “I am very excited for Connor, as he has had some great tournaments this fall,” said MSUB head coach Shawn O’Brien. “I am looking for him to continue to lead throughout our offseason and into the spring. Connor is a fantastic young man, who is deserving of this award.” In his first season competing at MSUB, Miele serves as team captain and recorded his second top-5 finish of the fall last week at Pryor Creek Golf Club in Huntley, Mont.
The tournament was the second of the week for MSUB, which returned home for a quick turnaround after the three-round Chico State Invitational last Monday and Tuesday. Despite shooting an 81 in the first round of the Chico State Invite, Miele finished strong with back-to-back rounds of 74 and he wrapped up the fall season with a streak of four straight rounds of 74 or better. On the season, Miele is leading the Yellowjackets in scoring average at 74.0 over 11 rounds. His season low-round score is 70, and he has turned in five par rounds among his 11 total and four events this fall. Miele is the third golfer and first male at MSUB this season to earn the weekly award, as Yellowjacket women’s golfers Anna DeMars and Kortney McNeil each also earned Player of the Week honors earlier this fall. The ‘Jackets completed their fall schedule on Friday, and will resume action in March, 2016 with the Yellowjacket Spring Invitational. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
