MSUB digs itself a deep hole, falling behind CSU San Bernardino in the second half and losing 3-0 on the road on Saturday. SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Three goals in a span of eight minutes buried the Montana State University Billings men’s soccer team on Saturday, as host Cal State University San Bernardino struck quickly and strongly for a 3-0 win at Premier Field. In a game that was scoreless for the first 61 minutes, Humberto Salcedo broke the stalemate and put the home team ahead with his first goal of the year. Diego Casillas converted a penalty kick goal in the 68th minute, and struck again with a header goal less than 60 seconds later as CSUSB shocked the ‘Jackets with a lightning-quick 3-0 lead. “We lacked intensity tonight and this was a little bit of a disappointing performance as a collective group,” said MSUB head coach Alex Balog.

The Coyotes (1-1) defended well throughout the game, not allowing a shot on frame until Julian Toenges found the target in the 77th minute. CSUSB goalkeeper Jacob Huber made the save however, the first of three big stops in the match. One of MSUB’s best scoring chances came on a free kick in the 78th minute, but Huber made a diving save on a powerful shot by Thiago Novis to keep the shutout intact. Eli Williams also had a chance on frame, but his shot in the 82nd minute was also secured by Huber. MSUB (0-2) was hampered by a red card issued directly after the first goal, as momentum swung into the favor of the Coyotes who played the rest of the match ahead one player. ‘Jacket keeper Tom Lohmann managed four saves in the match, the first coming on an attempt by Eric Lavery in the 11th minute. By contrast, Huber came through on all three shots he faced towards goal, and earned his first shutout of the season. Ten different Yellowjackets took shots in the match, while Rhys Lambert and Oliver Posarelli were the only field players to contribute a full 90 minutes. THE BUZZ: Lambert was selected as the St. Vincent Healthcare Player of the Game…Ricardo Palomino will miss MSUB’s next match after being issued the red card…the Coyotes were flagged for offside four times while MSUB didn’t have any…the ‘Jackets held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. NEXT UP: MSUB returns home to host the third annual Rimrock Classic presented by TNT Automotive & Marine. The Yellowjackets will challenge Dixie State University on Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m., before taking on South Dakota Mines on Sept. 11 at 3:30 p.m. The University of Mary will also participate in the four-team affair, challenging both DSU and SDSMT throughout the weekend as well. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
