Yellowjacket Men’s Soccer Picked 3rd in GNAC Preseason Poll

Set to build on its first winning season since 2012, MSUB’s men’s soccer team was picked to finish third in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll. Returning some of the top players in the conference, including all-region forward Ricardo Palomino and star goalkeeper Tom Lohmann, the ‘Jackets will have a test to start their 2016 season as they take on last year’s NCAA Division II national runner-up Cal Poly Pomona in California on Sept. 1. The team that led the GNAC in scoring with 35 goals a season ago may be even more dynamic offensively, with the addition of Division I transfer Julien Dragomir who has already scored once in the preseason. New Faces Shining Already for Yellowjacket Women’s Soccer

Mixing in with MSUB’s core of experienced veterans is a talented group of women’s soccer newcomers who all figure to see extended playing time this season. Freshman Amanda Hemmen will slot in at center back next to senior captain Kari Kastelic, with Great Falls native Courteney Shovlin expected to see time on the defensive unit as well. Adding to the returning core of Alycia Wright and Jessica Spang offensively is freshman Alexa Iacolucci, who scored two outstanding goals from beyond 25 yards in her second exhibition match of the year. NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships Return to Billings For the second time in the last three years, Billings will be the site of the NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships as more than 30 Division II teams will converge on Amend Park in early November. Featuring a field of nearly 400 runners, the men’s and women’s races will take place on the morning of Nov. 5, with both Yellowjacket teams competing in the event. The championship races will be the final of three meets set for the cross country squads this season, as the ‘Jackets will hold a preview meet on Sept. 23, and an open meet at Riverfront Park on Oct. 8. Despite the departure of all-region cross country runner Robert Peterson, the ‘Jackets welcome back a trio of seniors in Garrett Love, Jacob Marshall, and Josh Panasuk. Love will look to challenge MSUB’s record of 30:15 in the 10k, as he currently holds the second-highest mark in program history at 31:12. On the women’s side, senior Rio Frame will look to lead a youthful group in her final season with the ‘Jackets. The senior from Glendive currently holds the fourth-best mark in program history in the 6k, at 21:48. MORE --> 2016 Cross Country West Region Championships Home Page
