MSUB’s athletic department hosts fifth graders from Sandstone Elementary School for the third straight year during a spring field trip. BILLINGS, Mont. – For the third spring in-a-row youngsters from Sandstone Elementary School wrapped up their fifthgrade school year with an eventful trip to the campus of Montana State University Billings for a visit to the Yellowjacket athletic department on Monday. Around 70 students toured MSUB’s campus, before working with coaches and student-athletes from MSUB’s varsity sports. The fifth-graders participated in a circuit of activities, ranging from volleyball to rock climbing, in what has become one of the department’s signature community involvement activities. “This partnership between our athletic department and Sandstone Elementary is something that we look forward to each and every spring,” commented MSUB director of athletics Krista Montague. “We are fortunate to have
opportunities to engage the local community with events like today’s activity, and part of our duty as one of Billings’ universities is to give back to the local children and families.” Students spent time with Buzz the mascot during a lunch break, before wrapping up the day’s activities in Alterowitz Gym, the lower gym and recreational facilities, and the softball field at Avitus Group Stadium. Between student-athletes, coaches, and administrators, MSUB’s athletic department records more than 1,000 hours of community engagement and involvement throughout each school year. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
