‘Jackets finish Desert Stinger with 4-0 win over Mountain Lions The MSUB softball team finishes with a 4-0 shutout over UC Colorado Springs at the Desert Stinger tournament. LAS VEGAS - Sophomore Megan Dettling pitched a 2-hit shutout as the MSUB softball team rebounded with a 4-0 decision over UC Colorado Springs during the final day of the 2016 Desert Stinger tournament at Majestic Park. The Yellowjacket offense played efficiently, scoring four runs on six hits with two runs each in the third and seventh innings.


Junior Bella Rovens was 2-3 at the plate, senior Cori Gammon finished 2-4, with Jessica Bagnell and Heather Tracy with a hit each. Dettling (2-1) tossed a complete game for MSU Billings (2-3) allowing just two hits and fanning five. UC Colorado Springs left eight runners on base. Jordyn Cusimano and Paige Duncan each had a hit for the Mountain Lions. Dani Fonseca (1-1) pitched the complete game for UCCS scattering six hits and fanning 12. On two outs, MSUB rallied for two runs in the third inning. Tracy started the offense with a single to the infield and advanced to second on a throwing error. Rovens won her battle at the plate, heading to first base after six pitches on a walk. With senior Cori Gammon batting, Tracy and Rovens advanced a base on a passed ball and Gammon brought them both home with a long single through the right side for the first two runs of the game. In the seventh inning, the Yellowjackets added another pair of runs. Myrissa Prince reached first on an error sending teammate Alyssa Yaeger to pinch run for her. Dettling advanced Yaeger one base with a sacrifice bunt. MSUB shortstop Jessica Bagnell continued the streak with an infield single, taking another base on the throw putting two runners in scoring position for MSUB. Katlyn Stingari was sent to second base to pinch run for Bagnell and Rovens brought both runners home with a long double into left field for a 4-0 lead. MSU Billings held off UCCS with three straight outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Yellowjackets finished the 2016 Desert Stinger Tournament with a 2-3 overall record. THE BUZZ: Dettling named the St. Vincent Healthcare Player of the Game with the 2-hit shutout. UP NEXT: MSUB heads to St. George, Utah next week.
