Earning the honor for the second time in her career, Jessica Spang is named the GNAC women’s soccer Player of the Week after scoring and providing the assist on MSUB’s game-winning goal last week. BILLINGS, Mont. – Jessica Spang, a sophomore forward on the Montana State University Billings women’s soccer team, has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference offensive player of the week announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Spang scored her first goal of the season to give the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead in their game against Carroll College on Thursday. The Skyview High School graduate then provided an assist to Alycia Wright, who scored a golden goal in the 100th minute in the 3-2 win over the Saints. “Jessica had a good weekend, and she was definitely an impact player against Carroll,” said MSUB head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. “She also had a strong performance against Mary on Saturday. She definitely has a presence in our attack, and is playing with a lot of confidence right now.” Spang has played 195 minutes in MSUB’s two games this season, and has placed two of the three shots she has taken on target.
Spang scored two goals and had three assists as a freshman in 2014, starting 10 matches and playing all 17 in her first collegiate season. This is the second Player of the Week honor for Spang, who also earned the award after scoring and providing an assist in a 2-0 win over Sioux Falls on Sept. 12, 2015. Senior defender Katlyn Lokay was an honorable mention Player of the Week pick, after helping the Yellowjackets secure their first shutout of the season in a 0-0 draw against Mary. The Yellowjackets are back in action this week, with a pair of regional matchups in San Francisco against San Francisco State on Thursday and the Academy of Art on Saturday. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
